Have frequented many On The Border restaurants over the years but last night when I ordered taco salad I was served a salad shell filled with lettuce and approximately 2TBSP of ground beef. Won’t be going back.

The service was good and the chips and salsa were good. But the rest of the food was blah. Enchiladas tasted like a TV dinner and didn’t even have much cheese in it. Rice was undercooked and the beans were nasty. There are dozens of better Mexican food restaurants in OKC.

Chips are super salty, although table side guac is decent. I don’t like the fact none of the margarita prices are on the menu, but I guess if you are craving a marg, I was, it won’t matter much. It’s pretty average, yet edible tex mex. My go to is definitely the chicken fajitas. The happy hour specials aren’t bad.

Horrible horrible horrible. Came for a birthday dinner, waiter must’ve been high or something. He disappeared for about 30 minutes after other servers brought us our food. The manager offered not a single apology, but made sure he came over to «make things right» when all of our tickets were messed up. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Walked in. Told wait would be 25 – 30 minutes. Looking around saw at least 6 tables that needed to be cleaned off. Not sure if they had missing staff that day or not. I inquired as to why it was going to be a long wait. No reason given. Decided to leave.

Pros: +Menu was pretty diverse. Choices were interesting. It’s the first time I saw multiple varieties of queso offered, which is pretty fun even if I didn’t order them. +I ordered some weird torta(cuban?) with seemingly random ingredients and it was pretty good. It definitely wasn’t a boring item. +Our waitress Chelsey was very friendly and attentive. Cons: –My crappy margarita was more expensive than my meal. I only ordered it for the name anyway though so it was probably my fault.

Giving this place 4*‘s not because of the food. We all know if you want good mexican food… An Americanized franchise is not where you should go. However the service was absolutely wonderful. If you go I would recommend sitting in ROBEN’s section! She will make sure you are taken care of 100%!

Good food; good service. Nice touch: the manager stopped by our table to check on us. I already get the emails from OTB, so we will be back again soon!

There are few times I rate a place as low as this but we didn’t even get to eat. Nobody working the front desk then we’re told 25 minute wait… they have whole rooms of empty tables! We wait a half hour lots of people left some wished us luck but nobody got seated. Employees didn’t seem hurried in fact several were just goofing off. No manager visible. Families came in waited but nobody got their name taken or seated after us. Finally we just left. Got the feeling something is very wrong at this restaurant.

Well I tried On the borders brunch. Let’s say great price for the mimosa $ 2. Wasn’t a fan of the two items on the brunch menu? For example the kid’s breakfast burrito could have easily been traded for 5 McDonald’s breakfast burritos. It lacked cheese and seasoning, but then again it was for kids. I’m just being honest. But for a restaurant it was only $ 5 for the kid’s burrito and side. I chose the potatoes that were actually cold. Then I had the stuffed pepper that was just okay. I plan to try the brunch again next week and try something else on the menu. One thing I can say is that it is a very inexpensive for a restaurant chain.

My family and I took my mother here for Mother’s Day. We hoped it would be special as we don’t get to see her often. The only good thing I can say about it was that the manager was very polite when he kept coming to our table to apologize. We ordered the all you can eat tacos and barbacoa. The plates came out cold. They had obviously been sitting a while before they came out. None of the plates were correct. Not one! The tacos were completely soggy on the bottom and they came out with a small spoonful of meat and maybe 5 pieces of cheese on top. No lettuce, no tomatoes. The barbacoa enchilada(which should be tongue and cheek) were doused in BARBECUE sauce. At a Mexican restaurant?! The waiter was blasé about the complaints. He couldn’t have cared less. We will never, never, never eat here again!

my husband and I had lunch here. Not impressed. I had the lunch menu chimichango and my husband had the fish tacos. Both were mediocre at best. The peach tea was bland and tasteless. I don’t believe we will return anytime in the future.

Food was edible. Sat in the bar area. Waiter was horrible. He put on a fake smile when he brought the bill. He walked by numerous times, but never stopped except to drop our food off. I’m usually a heavy tipper, having worked as a server in the past. I had a hard time leaving a bad tip, but when service is that bad it’s justifiable. Will most likely never go to one of these chains again.

My family and I ate here tonight to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday. It was pretty busy for a Cinco de Mayo and lo and behold, not a single Mexican person in the restaurant… i guess they know better than to come here for the Tex-mex. Let’s begin with the service. Savannah was very nice, courteous, and prompt with bringing us drinks, chips, and salsa. She did forget about us once our food came out though. I had to get the manager so that we can get the rest of our entrees and some ranch dressing. The plates could have been cleared off the table in a more prompt manner so that we could have more room as well. I had the Carne Asada plate which is well priced at $ 14 for the size steak that you get. It was, unfortunately, over seasoned and too salty for my taste. The black beans were spooned onto the plate in the kitchen, placed on a warming table, and the liquid was allowed to dry up and fossilize creating a very un-appetizing ring around the plate border, My wife’s refried beans were the same way. No complaints from others in my dinner party about their foods. Now on to the restaurant itself. Like I said, very busy for a Cinco de Mayo and not enough wait staff. There was one server for what seemed to be a party of twenty! This is unsat in every sense of the word! Management needs to do a better job at anticipating peaks in traffic and adjust work schedules accordingly. The booth that we sat it has seen better days. I am 5’11″ and my wife is 5’8″ and we felt like we were sitting at the kids table on Thanksgiving. The cushions in the booth were non-existent and we ended up sinking all the way down. Ask for a table if this is an issue for you, I know we will. If you are looking for someplace that is inexpensive, fast, and has decent food, then this is your place. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is not the place for you. Head to OKC’s south side(bring a translator) for the real deal. ~Cheers!

There’s nothing particularly exciting about On The Border. It’s the generic tex-mex you’ve come to expect from the myriad of other tex-mex restaurants that polka dot the landscape. The food isn’t bad, but it doesn’t stand out from anything I’ve eaten anywhere else from other chain restaurants. The major good things I can think of is they seem to always have some kind of daily special going on and they are open late even on weeknights. Tuesdays, at least at the time that I went, were 5.99 Enchilada dinners and you had your choice of beef, chicken, or cheese and onion. Two enchiladas, rice, and beans for 5.99 is a pretty great deal in my opinion. They also have really good salsa with a good bit of spice and flavor. Notice I didn’t talk about the queso. That’s because you have to pay for it. I’m not an especially cheap person, but it’s not good enough to pay for. It’s a bit thicker than your average queso from other restaurants, but still just not worth it. Still, decent food at a good price. Occasionally they have an awesome endless enchilada special for like 10 bucks. That’s an even better deal in my opinion.

Intoxicated Rachel gives this 3 stars. Reasonable and sober Rachel gives it 2, and she’s around a little more. I’ve never had a bad experience with service here, but that’s about where it ends for the good. The alcohol is average, but isn’t it hard to mess up a piña colada or margarita? As for the food, it’s meh. On the Border is a good choice for late night eaters(they’re open till 11pm), but during the day there are tons of other better options in the same price range. The chili over the tamale and the rice are reminiscent of the kind that’s in boxed dinners in the supermarket. The tamales and enchilads themselves are mediocre, bordering on average.

I really like this place. I have never had bad service here or a bad experience. The manager, Tim, is always friendly and helpful when I see him. The food has always been good. I deducted a star because I think it is a little on the pricey side. The nachos and flour tortillas are the best in town.

Dirty, dirty place with alright service. If public restrooms scare you, hold it. As far as the food goes… it was just cheap food for a not so cheap price. My fish taco was so watery and absolutely flavorless, I’m thinking it’s because they put it in water to thaw and it was left there too long. Guac was the same way. My advice, if you desire good mexican food… go to Milagro’s on Classen. It has a better everything.

This restaurant tastes nothing like the On the Border of old. I love the chain but this restaurant is ruining the name of On The Border. The food is not made up to par and I prefer the OTB’s of Texas and Arizona but the OTB on Reno and Meridian is worth the wait to eat and«la comida es muy delicioso.»
