If you ever ate at one of the many Big Ed’s that used to be in the OKC metro area, this place will not disappoint. I used to go to the one on the east side of Norman all the time growing up. When I walked in today, and smelled that familiar smell, and saw the pic of Big Ed on the wall with the Challenge Burger, it was like I went back to my 10th birthday party. The guy running the counter was friendly, as well as the line cook. The jumbo basket for lunch still exists. And the fries are the same. They gave me an ink pen as a souvenir. My burger was so darn good. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Back to my childhood with this trip to Big Eds. I thought all of these had closed and I was happy to find out I was wrong. The burgers are still hot and juicy and the fruits are to notch. There are many items on the menu if you want to try something other than a burger, but why would you do that? Nice place, nice owner and memories from the past, all good ones.

This place is awesome! We did lunch here for my friends birthday and got the jumbo big Ed burger. It was ridiculously delicious and filling. To top it off, the staff gave us a free round of cookies to celebrate the occasion. I’d definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great burger.

So disappointed. My little brother came to town and we decided to try it because he was really wanting to experience the OLDBIGEDS. Remember on NW23rd and MacArthur? NOTEVEN close. The foreign guy at the counter was really rude. I was excited and tried to make small talk(the place was empty — - I should have gotten a clue as to why) he sneered at me and asked me why I wanted to know. I cant remember what the question was, I think it was, «how long has Big Ed’s been here». I shut my mouth for fear or foreign objects on the burger. About 10 minutes later our food arrived. Regular burgers and onion rings… YUCK. The onion rings had NO flavor and the hamburgers were very bland and not tasty at all. Will I be back? Maybe, but it will be when hell freezes over.

Left Dallas early so we could hit Big Ed’s before they closed for the night. I’m so very glad we did. The burger was fantastic. I could have eaten two. It’s the thin patty variety so don’t be afraid to order the double meat burgers. I wish I could have ordered one of the super big burgers. Fries were also good, really crisp and fresh. They are thick cut fries. Dipped them in Ranch and ate too many. Service was friendly, but they only have counter service. I like them better than Johnnies.

Went with the guys today during lunch. It was another excellent burger. Go get 4 to 8 people and get you one of the big doubles. It’s great and they still have good fries. Gotta try the new gyro and fried pickles sometime.

We had heard good things about Big Ed’s burgers for a while, so we decided to give them a try. The fries were good and they give you a good portion. However the burger is the star of the show, and unfortunately it tasted like those microwave burgers you buy in the grocery store. The meat, in my opinion, was absolutely not fresh at all. We like eating burgers around town and this was one of the worst. Also, I can’t prove why, but my wife got sick after eating at Big Ed’s. Save yourself some time, go to McDonald’s for a better burger.

Good bacon cheeseburger. Heart portion of fries. I wish they had Diet Dr. Pepper, but it was an enjoyable dinner. We’ll have to come back to try one of their family burgers.

Big Ed’s is a really good stop for lunch. I have eaten there several times. The onion rings, burgers, and fries are good. The gyros are great! Definitely recommended.

Huuge burgers. Enormous! But that’s about it. This place is just somewhere to go for kicks. I got the big burger that they had and split it between 4 guys. It came out to about 40 $ for the burger and fries. We cut the burger into quarters and it honestly wasn’t really worth it. I would’ve rather used my 10 $ on Carl’s jr. Their burgers and fries here were average tasting, nothing really special about it besides the size. Still enjoyed eating the burger but won’t go out of my way for this one.

Great Burger Joint in the heart of OKC! We have been coming to Big Ed’s for years and years. I used to stay right across the street from the original store and the quality has not changed at all. My main fix is usually the double meat and double cheese lunch special. The burger is overwhelmingly big and I usually can’t finish the whole thing in one sitting. The fries are usually crisp and flavorful and pairs with the burger like a red wine with a nice steak. I’ve known the owners and cook for years and years and the overall customer service has not declined one bit. I highly recommend everyone to try this bodacious burger joint! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

The last Big Ed. Like some of the other reviewers have stated, I used to go to this eatery ever since I was kid. I visit this location a few times and I usually get a good meal. Decided to try the Blue cheese burger combo. It was pretty good. Well the burger was. The fries were unusually gross. Im guessing the grease hadn’t been changed in a good little while. I did really enjoy the burger. That is until I found some foreign food item in my sandwich. I was going to give this review only one star but the cook sounded like Mother Russia and I felt she was worth two stars.

I don’t know why all the reviews on here are positive. Maybe Oklahomans follow the if you don’t have anything nice to say… rule. I’ve lived nearby for a year now and wanted to try it out as long. And now I’m disappointed. It’s not that it wasn’t good, it was actually gross. For made to order, the burger didn’t seem fresh or hot. The patty was not good. The veggie toppings are fresh– the only thing I enjoyed. The fries have no flavor. I only ate my food with a lot of help from ketchup and because I spent $ 7.00 on a burger and fries! Well, at least I’m not curious anymore.

This is the original and sole remaining Big Ed’s Hamburgers and more’s the pity as they, and their commercials for the«Big Ed’s Challenge,» were ubiquitous on local Oklahoma television for years back in the day. Unfortunately, owner Big Ed(I’m going to assume that was a meaty pseudonym) dropped dead of a massive coronary. Irony? Sad but true but a fitting end to a portly gentleman that offered you a free meal if you ate their coronary inducing pizza sized hamburger and fries within the span of an hour. And an obscene amount of food it was that no doubt had half the third world shaking their hungry heads at the grotesque American lifestyle were they to own a television and hear the the jingle taunting them to «come on over to Big Ed’s.» I was waxing nostalgic for the long gone Norman location when I decided to make a detour here for old time’s sake. This is truly a greasy spoon but they do have a really good hamburger. Their fries are thick, hand cut and absolutely amazing. Although a dive, I would say these burger are every bit as good as S&B’s, Irma’s or Tuckers, although to some that is tantamount to blasphemy to disparage those trendy sacred cows. There are no fancy named burgers here — just your basic fare. But damned good it is. If you are feeling especially gluttonous, or have a family to feed you really owe it to yourself to get one of their giant hamburgers served on a pizza tray. I find it odd that the bun itself is a solid one piece spanning a large pizza tray but that the meat itself consists of a series of regular sized patties. One would think that they would make one enormous patty but they do not. Oh well, it is still pretty cool to eat a burger off of a pizza tray. And, if you feel up to the challenge — go ahead and take Big Ed up on his gratis meal. All you have to do is eat it in an hour and it’s free and you can have your picture added to the wall. Where is guy Fieri’s love for this veritable almost long forgotten Oklahoma institution? Or even better, Man Vs. Food should add this to their list of gluttonous endeavors. I must admit that while in college and after partaking in an afternoon of some fine art of self destruction I was convinced by friends to try the Big Ed’s Challenge in Norman. And I failed. And I usually don’t fail at anything I put my mind to, but this I did. But, they say quitters never win and I did my damnedest to be a winner that night. Thankfully, as a broke college student, my friends helped cough up the money for my failure as I left sicker than I’d ever been. I hope that Mr. Ed is savoring the greasy fumed burnt offerings at the pearly gates that customers still give him at his last remaining location. ‘Merica!

This, to me, is one of the best burgers in Oklahoma… I miss this place. A LOT. It’s fun to feed the super huge cheeseburger to a group. The novelty is nice, but the burger and bun are so delicious! I love the fries too. I hope Ed will decide to retire in Orange County, CA. I really miss this food, and the fun times.

Is this the only one left? I used to work at Shepherd’s Mall on 23rd street when it was still a «mall»(if a clothing store, footlocker, orange julius, big ed’s, a jewelry store, and a greek restaurant rated the label) I would eat Big Ed’s at least twice a week, and was always excited when it came for burger day. The Chicken fried steak sandwich is ridiculously good as well. The big pizza-sliced burgers have the same quality and flavor of the lesser endowed siblings. My brother and I have fond memories of this location which we retell to each other, and have a hearty laugh. He and I along with a friend, «heightened our senses» and took on the(i don’t remember the name) biggest one. After all the laughter, carrying on, and forgetting what one was talking about whilst staring into the abyss which was his cup, the burger, fries and countless refills all consumed and thoroughly enjoyed. ok, I’m done. go

Greasy spoon — check. Strip mall location — check. Aged photos of the deceased, aptly nicknamed founder posing with enormous burgers ala Price is Right ladies — check. Sweet Greek couple whose kids do homework on a computer in the dining room — check. Best damn fresh-cut fries ever — check. Fresh, beautiful burgers from secret recipe — check. Pizza-size Family Burgers with ridiculous«eat it in an hour and it’s free» promotion — check. There used to be many locations. Most closed. When I found this one, I almost cried. Turns out it’s the original. One of my friends met Big Ed here when she was little. What he lacked in self control he more than made up for in a delicious legacy. It’s pretty hard to make a burger joint special — and I mean SPECIAL, not«famous because they sell tshirts.» They don’t. All they sell is amazing blue collar food. Go for an early dinner, it’s insanely busy at lunch.
