Adequate Mexican food for an average price. Nothing amazing about this place– there is one almost every block in Chicago.

First of all, I will say the food is good here. Their steak tacos with onion and cilantro are awesome. My complaint is basically about service and management. The listing says they deliver. I beg to differ. I’ve called twice for delivery. The first time they said their driver was out so no delivery. The second time I called a month later they just said, «no delivery.». So I told them I would do pickup. I ordered the taco special, straight from the website listing. They said they didn’t offer it anymore, even though it’s listed prominently online. I said I would order tacos a la carte. The price they quoted per taco was 25% higher than the online listing. I hung up and ordered elsewhere. The management clearly doesn’t care to honor their menu, prices, or delivery information that is posted online. I will be ordering from a different Mexican place moving forward.

A friend of mine recommended this place and since we were in the area we stopped by for some tacos. First of all he was shocked about the price increases which were very noticeable since the menus had wite-out on them! I personally think the prices were on the steep side given I’ve had tacos at a billion places(not even exaggerating). I ordered the steak torta and nothing popped out from it except the meat wasn’t the best quality. One good thing about this restaurant is that it is conveniently located right next to the L train so people go there for a quick bite.

Carne asada taco is bland and tiny chopped meat; lengua taco tasted like my patience taco(which I also ordered). So that sucked; pastor tasted solid, on the sweet side; salsa verde is not even a little spicy. Service is nonexistent.

Try their el pastor taco, guacamole and chimichanga. You won’t be sorry. I crave this place!

I come here generally for 1 or 2 tacos, usually al pastor. They are always very good. I always get them to stay, and I have found that the employees always give me like a nice dining experience and presentation even though I’m just getting 1 or 2 little things. And the food is so good.

In a city like Chicago, this place doesn’t quite stand up to some of the other Mexican restaurants, but it’s a good place to go in a pinch. They have tasty burritos and their barbacoa is the best thing on the menu. The price is right, it’s a convenient location, and the staff is efficient, so we’ll be back.

It looks like other people have had this same issue. We purchased a coupon from and when I got to the restaurant to pick up the food I was told that they don’t accept coupons. I speak fluent Spanish and asked them how I could purchase a coupon that they refuse to accept but the manager(or possibly owner) simply said«no» — pointed to the sign on the register which stated that they do not accept coupons and walked away. Just like another review they also forgot our salsa but even worse then forgot my milk shake. :(Yes, I know; moo. I would have appreciated any sort of explanation but I didn’t receive one. Instead, I paid full price and walked out of there feeling like a chump! Their food wasn’t terrible(not great either) but I won’t be going back simply out of principle. C’mon, guys!!!

This place is one of those hidden gem tiny taco stands that are scattered around the city inconspicuously. Very unassuming from the outside, basic décor on the inside, and no frills tables and chairs. These are usually the best taco places in the city however, to get real, authentic Mexican tacos and street foods. We walked in here just to try it after I moved into the area. Byob, which is rare I feel like for Mexican restaurants. After grabbing a few cervezas to bring in, we ordered the guacamole and chips to start out with. We got a huge portion of freshly made guacamole with cilantro and lime, and crispy freshly fried tortilla chips for only 5 $. Next, we ordered the al pastor, pollo, and asada tacos. They came out in about 5 – 10 minutes with the traditional cilantro, pico de gallo, and fresh lime juice toppings. That’s it, and that’s usually all that’s put on top of real, authentic tacos. They will give you lettuce and sour cream on the side, but you have to ask. The marinades on the steak and chicken tacos were amazing, and everything was simple but delicious. Came back and ordered the picadillo tacos, which were equally delicious and came with some fried potatoes in them. Very reasonably priced, byob, and delicious authentic tacos. Definitely found my solid neighborhood taco establishment.

Great Mexican joint right off the Sheridan Red Line. The free chips and salsa, of which there were three delicious varieties, were delicious. I ordered the tacos al-pastor and the meat was cooked perfectly. I can’t wait to go back.

On the 18th I my girlfriend and I wanted Mexican and decided to order in from GrubHub. We decided to give this place a shot and placed an order for chips and salsa, steak quesadilla, enchilada Verde meal and pozole. We received our order and noticed they had forgotten the salsa to go with the chips. No big deal, I know stuff happens from time to time. We called the restaurant back to ask them if they could please send the missing item over. After being placed on hold and waiting 10 min until we were finally disconnected we called back. Each time the phone would ring and we would be placed back on hold. After another 5 min of waiting I called back just to have it ring and ring until someone picked up and hung up. What went from something so small and didn’t matter that much now became a big issue and got me infuriated. I called back another 6 times just to have this happen over and over. Some times they didn’t even let it keep ringing they picked it up after 1 ring and hung up. With no help from the restaurant I called GrubHub Customer service to inform them of the horrible service I was receiving and neglect from the restaurant. I explained my situation to the very nice lady on the phone and she said she would try to call the restaurant. At this point my food was cold from the time I had spent trying to get a hold of this place. She called me back and informed me that«they were having problems with their phone» yet conveniently when it wasn’t me calling they didn’t have a problem receiving the phone call? I was then informed that as a gesture they would credit me for the salsa… that was unacceptable. They«couldn’t do anything more because the supervisor was gone for the day.» Another CONVENIENT circumstance. My girlfriend’s Enchilada Verde had little to no verde sauce on it as well. I would like someone in management to contact us regarding this horrible experience. I feel we should have been compensated fully for this issue. They could have come back and picked up their horrible food we no longer wanted it. It was cold by the time I stopped getting hung up on and being placed on hold. Do not order to go from this restaurant. I do not know how the dining in experiences have been but seeing how I was treated it seems poorly ran. I really wanted to like this place because we were looking for somewhere closer then Tarascas in Lincoln Park. But they failed me as a customer so I will continue to take my business where it is appreciated. Cocina Tarascas on Clark St. The extra 20 min commute walking is worth the food, customer service and peace of mind.

Will not accept their own coupons. Cashed in my Verizon rewards points for a coupon through Entertainment for this place. When I presented the coupon at the end of the meal I was referred to a sign on the cash register that read, «no coupons from restaurant.com» We explained in both English and Spanish that this coupon was from Entertainment, and not from«restaurant.com» Coupon denied. Could not get an explanation. The food isn’t terrible.

So there are several Mexican establishments in the area and Caminos de Michoacan holds it’s own. The menu is fairly diverse as is better than some of the hole in the wall joints with a much more expansive seafood selection. Having said that, I recommend sticking to the basics. Solid enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas and fajitas. I was underwhelmed by the quesadillas.

Food was pretty decent overall. I had three tostadas and couldn’t really complain about it. Pricing was alright and the chips and salsas were a nice touch. Nice little place overall though.

I love the staff here and the food, but the place needs some updating. Service: Concise, knowledgeable, and friendly. I’ve never felt unwelcome here. When eating in, you get chips with three kinds of salsa’s. I always leave a tip. Food: As mentioned, when eating in, you get chips with three different kinds of salsa’s. The salsa is delicious and the chips taste fresh. Other than that, their food tastes good and fresh. I always choose between Steak Tacos(with Cilantro & Onion) or the Steak Torta. The meat is a little chewy and tastes a little fatty. I would prefer leaner steak. Décor: It kind of looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but it is still homey. I feel extremely comfortable and they always have tv’s on in the background. My personal opinion is take your food to go.

Delicious late night tacos! I had a great drinking time @ Lollapalooza and then Holiday Club this past Saturday and I saw this place was still open around 2AM. Line wasn’t too bad so we decided we was about to eat here. I ordered 3 tacos; al pastor, carne asada & barbacoa. Took em to go and smashed em @ home. Really good and I imagine it would be good if I were sober.

Came by here after the pride parade(which was a blast!) since a lot of other restaurants in the area were packed. I ordered the flauta plate and my friend got the quesadillas. Considering I wasn’t exactly sober at the time(and usually almost any food tastes good), I still wasn’t really happy with the food… I mean don’t get me wrong, I finished it, but I’ve had a lot better. Customer service was really good though, but next time drunk me is going to have to find a better place.

When I brought two of my friends from Boston and D.C. into town for Riot Fest, the idea of being able to get a full Mexican meal in the middle of the night amazed them. I never realized 24-hour taquerias were unique to Chicago but the idea of one was revolutionary to them. If only the food here was still as revolutionary as it once was as well. This used to be my go-to favorite late-night Mexican place in Chicago(when I lived there in the 2000s) to get nopalitos. I know cactus is probably more expensive to get than it was a decade ago, but that dish was what separated this place from all of the other Mexican greasy spoon diners in the area. Now it’s just another simple Mexican restaurant(with a lot of very low quality chairs and tables) and it’s not a very good one at that. The free chips and salsa(a hangover preventing necessity) are still great but the rest of the food I’ve found mediocre. The last two times I’ve been in Chicago I ate here trying to regain the magic but my chile rellenos were dry and tough and my chilaquiles were too spicy to finish. But those bites of tortilla and egg I could savor without burning my tongue were good as was the rice on the side. Not good was the wait. This restaurant has always had some of the least responsive counter staff of any taqueria in Chicago. I feel like we waited 20 minutes for service. All in all, if I’m staying in Lakeview or Uptown again, I’d make a return visit. But this is no longer the destination all night mecca I once thought it was.
