Ordered online for delivery. Too much oil and the chapatis were not at all tasty,

Tasty as m8! I got the chicken tikka roll with all the things and it was spicy as all hell but I was leaning into it and everything turned out well so no complaints here. Lentil soup is a nice warm tasty little piece on the side.

We had paneer tikka, chicken and lamb roll. All of them were amazing with delicious Indian spice. My favorite is paneer tikka and mango lassi. Must try! You will fall in love with this unique Indian place.

The roll was amazing! I had lamb with haryali(cilantro mint mixture) The roll was thin with a layer of eggs(optional); so amazing, light and full of flavor. The lentil soup is a must. It’s not thick and mono flavored like at other restaurants. It’s infused with small bits of greens and ghee. The flavor was fit for a winter day. The fries were okay. I think they needed more masala, but I’m not a fries person anyway. Usually, I’m not crazy about North Indian fast food, but I realized this place is different. I will definitely go back with some friends, because not only was the food good, the customer service was good too. This is my new weekend lunch spot. Congrats to the owners :)

I’ve had Hakka Bakka delivered before without really knowing what it was. I just looked at the pictures on Unilocal and just chose what looked good. It was delicious and I was going to rate it high then. I decided to head to Hakka Bakka to dine in. I was greeted by L’Oreal(spelling?). I told her this was my first time dining in and she took her time and gave samples to ensure that I ordered what I liked. I’m glad she did. I was originally going to go with the lamb, but decided on the special chicken in my Kati roll. She explained the sauces very well. The food was fantastic. The restaurant was clean. You can tell the employees do take pride in the food as well. I will absolutely be coming back here. Often.

I am very familiar with Kati rolls from NYC and places like the Kati Roll Company, so I was really excited to see a place serving them in Chicago opened up. They are not very common in the US — outside of NYC and now Chicago, I think you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else with them(maybe somewhere in the Bay Area). Anyway, the space is a little sterile but what can you do? It’s clean inside. The Kati Rolls here, unlike other places I’ve had serving them, are served kind of Chipotle style. This is either a really good or really bad idea. Luckily the people working there seemed to know what was going on and what was up to guide me through this. I had a lamb and a paneer one. These are not that small either — not huge, but not small. Most people would not be able to finish 2 of them. I got the paneer with Hariyali and the lamb with tikka sauce. Both were good, and although I absolutely love paneer, I liked the lamb better for this. The Hariyali sauce needed more spice in it I think, but the tikka was pretty good. The lamb also tasted like lamb, which is always a good sign. The actual paratha for the rolls was good too — maybe even hand made. Nice job on that. The mango lassi was great too. The fries themselves were pretty good, but I didn’t really«get» the dipping sauce that much. The service was good there and the people working there were cool and helpful. I would return to try more.

I love Indian food so when my sister told me about this place I knew I had to check it out. I’m so glad I did because this place is amazing! They have fantastic customer service(everyone was really nice). I ordered a rice bowl and one of the guys suggested that I try the braised lamb(I think this what it was called) and it was delicious! I made sure to check out the spicy sauce and they definitely did not disappoint. My meal was spicy and flavorful. The Mango Lassi was so good I bought two of them. I can’t wait to go back to check out the Kati roll because my sister said it was really good(it looked like it !). Great service, amazing food at a price that won’t break the bank. I will definitely be back!

This place is awesome! Quality Indian food served fast food style and reasonably priced. Once we arrived we were greeted warmly. It was my first time so I wanted assistance in putting my meal together and they were very patient with me :) I went with the Chicken Tikka Kati Roll with everything. The Bread roll is made fresh right in front of you. The spices really made the roll! I love my food spicy! They had so many condiment options to choose from, so I just went with everything. Also the size is big! I couldn’t finish my roll. Probably cause I got the fries to go along with them. The fries had an awesome dipping sauce. If you check in on Unilocal you get a Free Mango Lassi. It’s very refreshing! I will definitely be adding this place to my frequent dining list.

Fast Indian food with a twist! Seriously like an Indian Chipotle as other reviewers have said, but actually better! I love Chipotle, I really do since they put the build your own on a map. Maybe it’s because they’ve gotten so big that now I just feel like the quality had declined. Anywho, we are not reviewing Chipotle here. The new kid in town is Hakka Bakka and I’ll be back-a!!! I love traditional Indian food as found on Devon and I frequent a place around the corner from my apartment. So when I saw this place pop up near my alma mater, I was curious how they could make fast Indian food. I’ve also never heard about or have ever tried a Kati roll. I am so glad that I stopped by. I always drive past on my to and from work and now it’s a great option for me when I want a quick filling meal to or from work. I had a rice bowl and my friend got a Kati roll. I felt the need to get a rice bowl because I’m a carb addict and also that’s what I always get at Chipotle heheh. For my protein I got the lamb. They had 3 differ flavors of it. The lady behind the counter let me try each of the meats although I already knew I probably couldn’t eat the spicy one! I have baby taste buds and to me it was very spicy. But also true to Indian flavors, so be warned! My friend lent me try a piece of her roll, and I will probably get that next time to try something new. I love that lamb is a meat option. It shows that the owners are not trying to be cheap and want to offer authentic Indian flavors in a new concept. I was lucky to meet the owners, Kaushik and Sweha, who were so sweet and welcoming. They told me their story behind Hakka Bakka and its so inspiring! I love supporting local business owners and I hope they succeed. Please don’t be afraid to check them out!

Indian food is oftentimes misunderstood and somewhat displaced from the mainstream. Hakka Bakka made the right move by opening next to DePaul and offering Indian cuisine in a modern and approachable manner. I particularly love the signature Kati roll — the housemade bread with an egg is absolutely mindblowing. Throw some paneer on there if you’re veggie, or lamb and paneer if you’re ready for explosive flavor and texture. Love the soup, as well!

Fresh Indian«fast» food, reminiscent of the format of chipotle with the toppings on the line. You can choose from spongy paneer, juicy chicken, lamb or chickpeas for your protein, then wrap it in a Kati roll(a big roti like wrap), pop it in a rice bowl or make a salad. There are several sauce choices from the minty green chutney, to spicy tikka. There’s flavorful masala fries with cilantro mayo as a side, basmati rice or(yum) buttery dal. It was fresh and affordable for sure. The owners were super friendly as was the staff. Love it!

The wraps are so-so …We got the paneer and chicken rolls. Egg roll didn’t have much egg, unlike in Bombay wraps. Paneer was soft and fresh, chicken was not so good. A star for pickle and mango chutney which are authentic ! Service needs to improve a lot. Though this is intended to be Chipotle style, it took 10 mins just to make couple of wraps. Granted the paratha is made in house which is much appreciated. but the process needs to be streamlined to be faster. Also for those not wanting oil on the wrap, oil less wrap could be an option(naan/phulka). maybe?

I was excited to see a new place like this in the DePaul area! It’s pretty much like an Indian Chipotle, where you get to build your own kati roll(almost like a burrito), rice bowl, or salad. The tika chicken was delicious and they have plenty of sauces for you to add to your masterpiece as you go. I would definitely recommend the sweet pickle as an addition to anything! The staff is also super helpful and nice.

Wanting something quick and casual and nearby, Hakka Bakka seemed like the perfect option for dinner Friday evening, especially as I love Indian food and like to try new spots. We were the only customers upon entering and we weren’t even greeted. Finally one of the staff members behind the counter takes our order. Boo and I each get a rice bowl, split a special kati roll and some masala fries. The service was just a hot mess. There were literally four people behind the counter down the assembly line, except all of them at one point or another switched tasks or were helping each other. It was very confusing and we were asked repeatedly what we wanted multiple times from every single staff member. Bf wanted reshmi chicken for his rice bowl and the guy said they were out… giving him the last few pieces. Instead of saying they were making more or asking him for a substitute, he automatically just put in some of the tikka chicken… luckily he has no allergies, but he can’t handle a lot of spice. That was just wrong. Everyone was just running around like headless chickens in there. I believe a manager was also there, but he did not step in at all to help out. Of course at checkout, we again had to repeat our order a few times. At this point, the guy just noticed our hakka bakka roll and finally asked what toppings I wanted. It was sitting there for awhile without any attention. There were only a few more customers that came in after us, so still not busy. For something that should have been quick and efficient, it was the complete opposite… I think it took about twenty minutes to complete our order… The food itself was good, not great. I was content. I did like that they made the rolls fresh to order and they were large. I could have done with or without the egg. The chicken in all three of the sauces were fine… not very memorable and same with the rice and toppings. I enjoyed the masala fries but have had better. Overall, atrocious service and apathetic staff and average food. While I enjoy the different concept and focus of kati rolls, I’ll stick to Bombay Wraps and Naansense.

We were here for a second time last week and I was excited that they’ve introduced chickpeas! I tried the rice bowl with chickpeas and my fiancé had the paneer kathi roll(cottage cheese). The team behind the counter was cheerful in their attitude and very careful to prepare everything just right. They prepared the food patiently and didn’t try to rush us out. I was really impressed by the quantities — I made two meals out of my rice bowl! Having tried kathi rolls elsewhere, this place tastes distinctly different. I asked them about this and they said they prepare fresh bread daily, several times a day, and pointed to the fancy machinery in the back that converts flour to dough to flatbread. The taste of freshness can be picked up easily. They shared they even prepare their sauces fresh daily starting from scratch. We also enjoyed their masala fries. As a fast food place, the atmosphere is clean, service is quick, and food is tasty + high quality! We can’t wait to be back. Oh, don’t be overwhelmed by the choices — they are good with«chef’s recommendation» on the toppings, which I what I did. Plenty of easy parking right outside is a plus.

I wish Hakka Bakka was closer to me! Hakka Bakka primarily serves kati rolls and for those of you who don’t know what a kati roll is, it is an Indian burrito to put in the simplest terms — but no rice. At Hakka Bakka you can choose from chicken, lamb, or paneer(cheese) each prepared in 3 different ways and choose your toppings and sauces and it’s wrapped up in whole wheat flatbread. You can also get it with egg. I got the chicken Hariyali with egg. It was DELICIOUS. So full of flavor and super tender. The owner was telling me how everything is made fresh on site — flatbreads and the sauces(which they make every four hours to keep fresh). The masala fries are a must and you don’t even need a sauce but it comes with cilantro mayo which I recommend you use. The employees are very friendly and make sure you enjoy the food. The place is very clean and modern and bright. Drop what you are doing right now and GOTHERE!

Just wooow!.. The food is ridiculously delicious and thoughtfully handcrafted! It’s all super fresh and healthy. Amazing blend of flavors! I’d recommend a kati roll made with homemade Indian flatbread, marinated chicken or lamb and side of crispy fries and cilantro mayo sauce that’s to die for!!! A-must go place both during lunch and in the weekends and conveniently located in the heart of the city! Will definitely come back!

Finally!!! a Kati roll place in Chicago. They serve it fast casual style like Chipotle. We had a chicken Tikka roll with egg and haryali paneer roll. Loved the variety of Indian toppings you could get on it like the acchar(spicy pickled veggies), cilantro etc. Masala fries on the side were great as well. Owner and all the other staff were very friendly. Will Definitely go back. :)

Overall: Quick, easy, and good Indian food. Great for lunch or easy dinner. The good: Really friendly service. They helped with everything from choices to prep. Food is portioned well and tastes good. The sauces are potent but not overwhelming. Good meat flavor and tender. Not too expensive. The bad: Pretty boring restaurant atmosphere. The food was on the colder side. Not much else. Atmosphere: 6⁄10 Service: 10⁄10 Food: 8⁄10

I enjoyed this place! I think someone said it’s like the Chipotle of Indian food and I’d sort of agree. I had the rice bowl with haryali paneer. Good amount of paneer and I liked the haryali masala. I did think it needed salt, though– I thought everything was a little underseasoned including the rice. But flavors otherwise were good. Husband got the tikka lamb and he said while tasty, it was not at all spicy for him so while the description uses the word«fiery» he did not find it so. Definitely try the different chutneys and sauces. The tamarind chutney and the green cilantro/mint chutney are delicious. I really liked the sweet pickle too. Friendly service, nice clean place. I’m happy it’s within walking distance, I’d come back again.
