Downtown Dogs

This review is going to be a short one because it’s very simple message I need to convey. You MUST come here and experience a Chicago dog, it will ruin you for every other hotdog. Best 4 $ I’ve ever spent :)

On a recent first time visit to the Windy City earlier this week. I was out exploring the city and It was sometime after lunch and I wasnt really hungry but I knew I could use something and out of nowhere I turn and there was Downtown Dogs. Here was my chance to no longer be a Chicago Hot Dog virgin as I knew what I needed to do.
«Dont ask for ketchup, dont ask for ketchup», I kept telling myself. See I’m from the south originally and we put ketchup on everything! Truthfully I’m really not sure if that’s a Southern thing or not, just go with it OK?
I ordered 2 Chicago style hot dogs, one with cheese and the other as it should be and after a single bite, I was immediately hooked, mission accomplished! The one thing I had avoided all of my life, I had now come to adore more than most anything else in the world!
Seriously I would go back to Chicago if for no other reason but to come back to Downtown Dogs for a Chicago style hot dog.

Really enjoyed the Downtown dog, which is basically a traditional Chicago dog. It came with chips. Ate outside, as inside is cramped. It was a good experience.

Not what I had hoped when I was looking for a Chicago dog. But it was a nice easy place to grab some quick food on a day of touristing

Looking for a great way to place to get a Chicago dog this is it! Wait time was minimal although the place was packed. The inside is covered with dog photos for you to enjoy while waiting. Don’t expect to come here and be able to sit with a group of people as the inside is very small and only allows seating for two people. Think small ‘hole in the wall’ type feel. The food prices are average and their menu is extensive. Their downtown dogs are amazing. The flavor of them is something you don’t want to miss. If you’re downtown on Michigan Ave. definitely stop by and get a quick cheap eat!

Horrible Service!
I was Hungry and wanted to grab a quick Chicago Style hot dog that was close — this joint popped up, so went in and ordered a double char w/​the works!
20 minutes later — no hot dog! It took a minute for the three people ahead of me to get their dogs, so I waited it out expecting my order to be next… no go.
25 minutes later — no hot dog! I asked what the hold up was and they said «lots of orders». But as I had been there for 25 min. and every person ahead of me had their orders for the past 10 minutes or so, didn’t make sense. I was told «5 more minutes for my order». What???
30 minutes later — no hot dog but refund in hand. Ended up going down the street and getting a great lunch in under 5 minutes!
If your gonna be a quick grab and go hot dog spot, then you should be just that! If large orders are gonna slow down the output, then just let people know so they don’t sit and get hangrier and hangrier.
Customer service is easy and free to provide… Downtown Dogs failed on this one. Just my opinion.

Delicious hot dog place! I ordered mine with everything on it except for the hot peppers and it was sooooo good. Every hot dog comes with a bag of chips and we also ordered the sweet potato fries. Great and fast service. We sat outside on the patio taking in the views of Chicago. Really conveniently located downtown.

Found this place when searching for an authentic Chicago style hot dog. A small little place that serves dogs, burgers, fries and Italian sausages. Cashier was helpful when asked the difference between various items on the menu. Ordered two char dogs, can add any fixins that you want, comes with a bag of plain chips. They have stools and counter space around the wall to sit down and enjoy a quick bite. I’m still not sure what an authentic Chicago style hot dog is but it tasted good :)

Well if you want a normal Chicago style Hot Dog and pay premium price, you came to right place. I couldn’t sit anywhere inside because it was the size of a portapotty. Had some fat guy breathing down my neck while waiting for my food. If I could hear you breath then we have a problem. Some lady came in there yelling about not putting ketchup in some order from several weeks ago. Im sure unless your desperate for a hot dog, there are other more suitable places to buy a hot dog.
They gave me so many fries with my order, I had thought I order fries with a side of Hot Dog. Dont order anything in there unless its a hot dog or polish, trust me, I work down the street.

It’s a hot dog joint. Plain and simple.
Not sure how you can go wrong with this place.
Chicago dog comes with a bag of chips.
And the steak street taco is super greasy to the point where it’s almost dripping. It’s topped with plenty of steak and vegetables.
I would come again.

Nice Chicago-​style dog with all the fixings. Served up fresh. Reasonably priced and super filling. Comes with a bag o chips. What is not to love?
If you like looking at a lot of pictures of dogs while eating your dog on a high stool at a counter, then this is definitely the place for you.
While I was waiting for my hotdog to come up, a girl stopped by and started raving about the delicious tacos she had eaten here recently and ordered some more. Intriguing…

I was working on Michigan Avenue and Downtown Dogs one of my go to lunch or dinner spots when I wanted something fast, cheap, and satisfying. Very standard Chicago-​style hot dogs served with pickles, tomatoes, and relish that’s only $ 4 with fries on the side as well. Hot dogs are great but their chili fries are absolutely delicious!
The restaurant is pretty small with several high table seats more suited to eating alone or with one other person. Location is fabulous and just a block off Michigan. Service is incredibly fast and you can get your order in minutes to go if you’re in a hurry.
Overall, this place is nothing fancy but definitely great for something fast and yummy.

I’ve walked past this place hundreds of times and never ate here. While Christmas shopping I walked past again and I happy it wasn’t that crowded, unlike everything else I walked by. I stopped in and got two dogs.
The dogs were average, I had better I had worse. It’s just a regular hot dog. I also got 2 bags of potato chips with the dogs? I never heard of such a thing. I didn’t want to eat them after having a handful, so I threw them out. Seemed like a waist. but oh well.
I might go back, but its good if you are hungry and in a rush, It’s just an average hotdog.

Craving Chicago style hot dogs? if you are walking along the ‘magnificent mile’ and you want a dog that is not crazy overpriced this might be your choice. It is a hole in the wall place. A bit on the grungy side, no tables with countertops and stools as well as some outside seating. staff was surly and pretty tired of tourists. Went with the char dog Chicago style which meant the dog gets grilled vs. the downtown style is boiled (who knew?). The dogs are not huge but they are tasty with everything on it (two kinds of pickles, mustard, onions, celery salt). The celery salt makes it. We also got the Italian beef which I was actually nice and spicy (which I like). check them out!

Walking around Chicago downtown while looking for something quick and cheap to eat. Decided to check out this place due to rather nice reviews here.
Around 8pm I was the only customer here so did not have to wait too long… Went for the «signature» i.e. Downtown Dog (with everything) which cost me 3.75 $ including a pack of chips. So certainly not too expensive! It was not the best dog I’ve had but over the average anyway. I would give the food as such three stars but considering the price level in this very central location I raise the overall to four stars.
If you are looking for a posh gourmet hot dog place, I suggest you keep on looking but others should be fine here!

Great place for fast food. I visited this location off Michigan Avenue on my lunch break I was in and out of the building in 10 minutes. I have visited on two occasions.
The first I ordered a cheese dog with all toppings and sweet potato fries. The second a bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. Both were extremely good, but I would definitely go with the hot dog as the name of the chain suggests.
both meals were reasonably priced, seasoned, hot, and delicious! Just what I needed on an hour lunch break! Only thing I wish this place had was honey mustard! The sweet potato fries are fantastic but with a side of sweet potato fries they’d be orgasmic!
This place is a must visit if you are shopping in the gold coast. Its never packed !

I’ve never had a Chicago dog so I headed here to pop my cherry. And boy am I glad I did!
Nestled in between soft, pillowy, warm bread I found a juicy, tasty hot dog adorned by tomato, pickle, onion, peppers, and mustard. It sounds overwhelming but in reality, the flavors somehow work together and complement each other rather than standing alone.
The wait was a bit excessive but this location is smack dab in the middle of a very busy area with tourists and locals co-​mingling over the shared love of a Chicago doc.

Couldnt visit chicago without having a chicago dog! We ran into this place while out exploring the city.
Very simple walk in — nowhere really to sit so we took our dogs to the street! Basic dog with good toppings… I am from the south where it’s all about chili and slaw so it was cool to try something different.
