So so. Crappy loud music. Loved the old floor and charm, but music was so loud you couldn’t hold a normal conversation. One bartender was very rude and one was very nice. There are better places, we won’t be back.

Awesome place! An old school pub in the middle of the Gold Coast! Great place for a cold beer!

#28 Day drunk all along the Magnificent Mile – what else do you do in Chicago to forget how cold it is? PUBCRAWL! We were all doing the Chicago tourist thing and running up and down Rush St. to every bar doing at least one shot and drink, meeting people and simply having a great, cold, Chicago time. We happened along Pippin’s and it seemed like a place we wanted to be. Pippin’s has a comfortable atmosphere, and the bar also offers a «locals» feel rather than a «touristy» vibe(even though we are tourists we wanted to hang with the cool people of Chicago). A plethora of beers – whether on tap, in a bottle, or in a can(yes, that would be Pabst) and a stellar selection of cocktails. The floor seemed to be barely making it through the day with all the traffic and wear beat into it, but it really added charm. Irish memorabilia covered the walls and surrounded the bar area. There were also about 1,000 pair of «left behind» sunglasses hanging from the chandeliers(or lamps – whatever). That surely reminded me to secure mine in my purse. There was a jukebox full of really great music, and just an all around awesome vibe. The smell was strong, like a basement, but about one drink later we could not even smell it. We arrived after lunch(and a few other bars down the street) in somewhat of a jovial mood, ready to continue our daytime drunk. We walked in about 4:30ish and a lot of people seemed to be arriving from work, school, drinking like us, etc. As we sat and enjoyed our drinks, even more people came in, and the place filled rather quickly. Bartender called out to us, «Hey, what’ll yous have?» in a super friendly, Chicago manner. I felt comfortable and happy. A few regulars form the area started talking to me and Lauren and we felt right at home. The music was superb – classic rock. This is something I rarely hear in the Bay Area(or maybe I go to the wrong places), and it was pretty amazing. The crowd was cool, a little more classy than the last spot we went into; however, the crowd was cool and did not seem to mind us, the Cali tourists, on their stomping ground. From Pabst in the can to strong martinis to cool people – Pippin’s has it all. My friend, Nick, a beer freak, had the time of his life there. So many beers on tap. I had a martin, one friend a screwdriver and another friend was drinking Greyhounds in the afternoon – weird, but whatever. The place filled up really quickly as we arrived, seemingly at the right time to grab a seat. We were even offered some delicious Chicago dogs from next door – they deliver right to your barstool. Now that is pretty cool. If we had not have eaten Giordano’s a couple hours before we might have indulged. Stephani Smiles for Pippin’s ;) #dontmindthesmellitgoesawayafteronedrink

Love coming to this place. A divey hidden gem. You’d never expect it in this area of the city. The main reason I come by is my favorite bartender Doug but everyone is friendly and cool — regulars and staff.

Stopped by with a group of new found friends with similar career paths to kill some time and discovered McKenzies black cherry cider. It’s only 5% alcohol so for many, it understandably tastes like juice. For me, I love fruity ciders so it’s right up my alley for a drink. 5 stars for that. Our pitcher was $ 16 and the bartender lady was super nice to our group. My only issue was that I’m highly suspicious that the cheese fries are fries bought from McDonald’s one block away with crappy cheese melted on top of it. I guess that’s why it’s only $ 3.50.

Pippin’s has potential. It has the tavern look down-pat, both inside and out, and it’s centrally-located so you can’t help but walk past on a regular basis no matter what you’re doing. But whenever I go it, it’s too jam-packed to be enjoyable. Even on a weeknight, I get the impression that an expensive Mag Mile venue is trying to break out of the neighborhood tavern shell that tempts so many passers-by.

My mother always told me never to judge a book by its cover. This place doesnt have that nice of a cover. But, its a jewel on a pretty random strip surrounded by nice shops and fast food joints. I’ve been her a couple of times to find some respite during long-haul shopping days(bfs of the world you know what I’m talking about). The bartenders are awesomely sweet. The beers flow freely. The other patrons can be a bit surely if you crowd their space(but who doesnt?) All in all this place does what it came here to do…

Rather average«divey» bar. Good for one somewhat cheap pint(six draft crafts when I visited) but not for much more. Did not try the food since there are plenty of options in the neighborhood. On the positive side it’s very down to earth, centrally located and certainly not a chain pub!

Oh man yikes… ok so ill start with the only good thing about this place and it was the price. its pretty cheap for chicago! so now on to the bad and ill be as kind as possible… Late summer Saturday around lunch time: 1.) we sat outside and our table area was really cramped and it was kind of dirty. 2.) Slowest waitress of all time. it wasn’t busy at all and we waited about 15 minutes to order our drinks. She was nice but very V E R Y slow. 3.) the food: my sweet potato fries were cold in the middle. totally uncooked and hard and i ordered the grilled cheese(only vegetarian thing on the menu) and it was completely flavorless. like super artificial cheese on cheap white bread. I was hungover and never met a grilled cheese i didnt like until now. very sad. 4.) would not go here again. maybe its cool at night idunno. just bad experience.

Super chill Irish pub located downtown near Loyola. Came here after the mad freakout from how expensive drinks were at the Signature Lounge. Luckily, this place is nearby and is a fraction of the price! Pippin’s has a relaxing environment that’s conducive to good conversations and a couple rounds of beer. They have a good selection on draft so you’ll likely find something to enjoy. There’s not much of a décor– but after a couple of drinks, you won’t even notice. Out of all the bars in the area, this is one I’ll probably frequent more often.

True neighborhood dive bar! Rough-hewn floors, good selection of beer on tap, friendly locals. Excellent place to cool off away from humid summer heat and uppity hipsterss!

Ok so this place gave me very strange vibes. The crowd was much older! And not social they made us feel uncomfortable for being there but we made they best of it! They have a juke box but the music was very old school which I guess I can’t complain about! They played the classics like the Beatles! But there is a juke box and photo booth that doesn’t send you your pictures! The bartender was rude! We wanted shots and because we were sitting at a table he wouldn’t serve us! So we had to wait for the waitress to come to take our order! That doesn’t even sound right! Also the waitress forgot she took the receipt and came back asking for it… like what… they décor of the place is very cute and tavern like but the atmosphere sucks! And drinks are super expensive!

So happy to find this place. Almost considered eating at the mall or a chain restaurant. But this place is pretty down to earth. Cold beer, good vibe, it is a bit loud. Ordered the Italian beef from Downtown Dogs. Sounds legit

Pretty nice down-to-earth kind of feel bar in the downtown area. About 20 or so beers on tap, mostly east coast crafts and some English ones too. They’re somehow connected with the Downtown Dogs next door, so the menu is from that restaurant and they bring over to the bar. Had a cheddar dog with everything and it was pretty decent. Prices seem consistent with the city-like prices. About a dozen or so tv’s all around, electronic jukebox and outdoor seating is usually available.

Every time I walk into Pippins, I think to myself«hmm, something smells a bit musty.» By the time I leave Pippins, I think to myself«I don’t want a bar to smell any differently than this.» Oh, BTW, Downtown Dogs will be delivered to your fat ass on a barstool. The jukebox is rets to go, the bathrooms are fairly clean, and it’s within stumbling distance for me, which of course a major priority for all of you.

First time in Chicago and me and my group wanted a quick place to get a drink. The prices are reasonable but the service is straight up rude. Unless of course you are a 40+ year old man in a suit and the blond bar waitress is flaunting her goods to get a better tip. Our patio waitress, with skimpy clothes and blond hair was rude to us from the get-go regardless of trying to be overly polite and gracious. I guess if we were a bunch of dudes she probably would have shown us common courtesy but too bad for us I guess. It’s too bad cuz I desperately wanted to like this place.

A good spot to step in and get your beer on. When in the area, I usually will stop by and have at least one. Cozy little place, fills up quick and doesn’t hold too many people at once. Service is friendly, food service provided a-la Dogs next door. I dig the lost and found collection of glasses hanging from the light fixture above the bar, adds character. I also like how the floor is all but wore out in some spots. Tip — Specials are listed on the sidewalk sign as you enter. If when you enter it seems full, no seats, no worries, get a beer and hang five minutes, chances are something will open up. Friendly crowd, no worries. If you are ordering a can of the cheap, be aware, they come BIG(24 oz). This place is real, a good mix of folks, not too young, not too old, and you don’t have to worry about it being too foo foo, or breaking your bank. Cheers!

Pippin’s sure was poppin’ on a Tuesday night around 5pm. Almost everyone seemed to just be grabbing some drinks with co-workers. The atmosphere was dimly lit and festive as it was decorated for the holidays. Irish decorations and holiday decorations adorned all the walls and surrounded the bar. The space inside isn’t very big so if you don’t like crowded bars, I’d avoid the place. Not a whole lot of seating, but we didn’t have any trouble finding two stools at the bar. They have a decent selection of draft beers in addition to a full bar. Drinks were fairly cheap as well. I was a bit surprised to be carded at the door since it was so early in the evening, but whatever works best for them!
