My server was 100% on top of everything. You could tell he was busy but he was still giving our table 100% great service. I’m a foodie but more than great food I love good service. With The Stir I was happy! Great food, great service. perfect date night before Tim Meadows comedy show !

I was in town for business and we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite before taking a distillery tour. We parked and decided to check out Stir. I was with a few locals who had not been but knew about the restaurant. We were seated promptly, the place was busy, and our server came right away with water and menus. At first glance the menu was long with the first page was dedicated to their handling of the ice. Eye roll begins. This place is so pretentious they have and«ice chef» whose sole purpose is to freeze water, whatever. I get it. I think its stupid. You want free range, artisanal, locally sourced, organic, bull shit. Its ice. Frozen water. I dont care that you’ve slow frozen your ice for clarity. I’m not looking through it to see the deeper meaning in your hand crafted cocktail. Its cooling down the alcohol before I slam it down my throat. An ice cube is an ice cube, and I’m sorry but it doesn’t matter how clear it is, or what the damn shape is. It’s a frozen cube of water. Thats it! Anyway, the menu is confusing as they only have like 6 drinks per the 8 ½ X 11 page because of the idiotically long descriptions about the history of each drink. I don’t care. I know where the sazerac was invented, just tell me the ingredients and move on. I ordered a rye Manhattan, Oysters rockefeller, oysters, and the salmon cakes. A few moments later we are informed they out of cakes. No big deal, we order the fried green tomatoes instead. My drink arrives along with beers that my friends ordered. My drink with it’s fancy frozen water was a little too sweet for me, even though it’s not supposed to have simple syrup in it I think they overdid it on the orange bitters. It was not well crafted with it’s fancy hand cut, artisan, ball of slowly frozen water, crafted with care by their friggen ice chef, that’s then barrel aged. It was too damn sweet and cost 14 bucks. Oysters come out, they could use a little salt but are otherwise fine then an order of truffle fries drop. We didn’t order those, I explain and they are promptly removed and replaced with salmon cakes. I thought you were out of those? The server that dropped them looked perplexed. Our server that took the order came over and said she screwed up with the fries and gave them too us anyway, then got chastised in front of us over the cakes. It was awkward and weird. The cakes sat at our table for a minute and just as I was about to cut into one the server returns to remove it and bring it to a different table! Seriously? I thought that was terrible, not because we were losing them but they sat at our table for several minutes. I fell bad for whomever got that plate. Absolutely disgusting! Our poor server was very sweet but she seemed flustered and disorganised, and the staff in general seemed to bump into each other and it was clear this place needed to spend some time on training and less on well crafted balls of ice. I watched servers take food from the open kitchen and handle it with bare hands transferring too plates. It was completely unsanitary, and unprofessional. In the end our check came and I paid. My friends baulked that the out of towner would do such a thing and asked our server to cancel my transaction and put it on their card. This evoked a major issue, managers consulted, and in the end they refunded me the pre-tax portion of the bill while charging my friends the full amount, then asked me to sign the voided receipt for their«records». She didn’t know why I wasn’t refunded the entire amount. Our appointment for the distillery tour was upon us so I left with it unresolved and honestly I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Overall the food was ok, my drink was ok, but the service was terrible. It was really expensive, and in the end if your charging high end big city prices you should offer the service and quality that goes along with that. This place has a long way to go, but they do have an Ice Chef.

Fantastic food with great service. Crab bisque had a Charleston she-crab flavor that was delicious. The BLT with Egg was probably the best sandwich ever! Loaded with bacon. They have their own«homemade» ice that they will tell you all about if you ask. A number of specialty cocktails also. In a beautiful old Train Depot. Great place!

Alright, first let me say I will absolutely try Stir again. This new spot has a FABULOUS bar area with atmosphere galore. I totally want to go back and try one of their signature cocktails. So here is the good and bad of our visit. We wanted a quick bite and drinks before a show at Track 29. Surprisingly, many of the area restaurants were already 1 – 2 hour waits. When I first asked how long the wait was, the hostess said 1.25 to 1.5 hours. My friends were parking the car and when they came in she overheard the other hostess tell someone else 30 – 45 minutes. Uhhh. Ok. We decided to wait and hang out at the bar. About 30 min in, a high top bar table came available, which we snagged. I ordered the white truffle Parmesan fries and a wedge salad. Our server made up for the hostess snaffoo. She was super efficient, friendly, knowledgable and attentive, which was quite a feat given how crowded it was around the bar! BRAVO! Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My fries were delectable. Perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned. The truffle oil, well I couldn’t stop eating them. My wedge salad was underwhelming. It was more like a slice salad, and had barely any goodies on it. I hate to say it but this is the simplest salad in the world to make, Applebee’s is WAY better. Stir needs to go study the wedge salads of the world and revamp. And there is a reason it is called«wedge» salad… It is supposed to look like the little wedge pieces in trivial pursuit. Seriously, I am not hard to please(obviously since I Love a wedge salad). So the other downside is the truffle fries were not good at 1 am or the next day, pretty sure that was the culprit since my friend ate some of them and that was the only thing we both ate alike. Sooooo… Maybe too much grease, idk. I will give it another try.

A really good experience! A beautiful location next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo, in a renovated part of the old train station, with exposed brick, beams, and the old glass windows. The bar is beautiful, and the bartenders are obviously experienced. Since I was driving, I couldn’t enjoy as many of the drink offerings as I would’ve liked to. The food isn’t cheap, but well worth the price. They have an oyster bar, so I had to have some on the half shell. The oysters were large, ice cold, and without the smallest loose bit of shell in them(a sign they know what they’re doing). I had a super tender steak, and my dinner companion had chicken, and they were both VERY good and served promptly. There are lots of appetizer and entrée options to choose from. This is a must try in downtown Chattanooga. I’m going back soon. Only reason it didn’t get a 5 star from me is that they lost my reservation and tried to seat us at the very cramped oyster bar, but very quickly corrected the situation, and on New Years eve, I give them lots of credit for that.

Came here for brunch on Sunday. My husband ordered an old fashioned with sazerac rye, it was beet red in color from all the cherries used and the bartender mixed the drink and walked away for a few minutes so it also was very watery. My chicken crusted in waffles was probably the most greasiest dish I’ve ever seen. I grabbed an extra plate from the«cold bar» to drain all the excess grease onto. It didn’t taste like waffle, the chicken was dry, and no syrup served with it either. If you’re going to call it sriracha butter it should at least be spicy. My husband got the BLT, ate ¼ of his sandwich and none of the fries, it said it was bland and lacked any flavor at all. The cold bar consisted of potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, fruit tray and a few desserts. As someone with severe food allergies to eggs and berries, labeling would have been greatly appreciated.

Simply decadent. Each dish was created with thought and prepared to perfection. The levels of flavor complexity make every bite better than the last. Fresh, innovative combinations of seasonings and unique, fresh ingredients perfectly portioned and served by friendly, knowledgable staff. The drink menu? Oh stop. You will never see a more comprehensive menu of quality spirits or enjoy them made anymore perfectly than you will at this place. They even take ice to a whole new level. You will not be disappointed.

4th time back last night so I guess with that alone I should be giving it 5 stars. Love the atmosphere, it is not the usual chattanooga scene but should be. Not once have we waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Service is great! Every waiter I’ve had so far has taken it to the next level. There is a white Michael Jordan that serves here and if you can, you should request him. The manager, Fletcher, was one of the most professional managers I’ve scene in this city in the food world. He visits every table just to make sure his guest are happy. I must have gasp a little when he actually called me by name, because he met us three nights before there. So happy to have this in our town! A must try! Fish tacos are perfect!

This is Chattanooga“s newest restaurant as of November 16th, 2015 which was its grand opening. Over 100 people work here which is always good for the local economy. Stir is owned by by Square One Holding Company which owns several restaurants under different names. What is the significance of stir? It has an ice chef and Clinebell brand ice machine, This ice machine makes crystal clear ice cubes. The result is that you have no clouds or bubbles in a guests ice. It’s made from purified water and there is no other restaurant in Tennessee like this. For more information asks your waitress and maybe even a possible demonstration by their ice chef. Food: Stir offers fresh local food from within 100 miles. The prices of food range from $ 10 to $ 25. Their menu is simple and very simple to understand. It’s located alongside The Terminal Brewhouse but across the road in the Chattanooga Choo Choo. If you are standing in front of the hotel, it’s on the right side. Initial Visit: I was here for a soft opening with a group of friends. We had a sample platter brought to our table. This food was delicious and ultimately didn’t last long. Everybody was in a great mood and here to have fun which they definitely did. Features: There is an oyster bar which you can sit at and is kind of an extension of the bar. You can sit at the oyster bar and be waited on there. I personally asked for Hailey. Another feature is the 30 foot long main bar. It is an elegant bar with a spectacular back ground of drinks on shelves going up the wall. It has a ladder attached and if spend any amount of time in here you will see bartenders climbing up to get certain liquors. Additional features: There is outside seating that has a «party feel» to it if the weather cooperates at your time of visit. What more can you ask for than to sit outside off of Market Street in a pleasant environment down town Chattanooga. Corporate Executives: I met Tim at the Oyster Bar who was here training everybody on just about everything. He was in the kitchen area the time and was supervising all the cooks. He said there are other restaurants across the U.S. but each had a different name to them. He said they are all owned by by a company which has its own family of restaurants. Thus, Square One Holding Company. Customer Service: I have been here twice and Hailey waited on me both times. She is friendly and really took great care of us. I highly recommend asking for her if you can. She acts like she lives to work here and seems to lover her job. Menu items ordered: Iceberg Wedge, Fried Green Tomatoes, and a sweet tea. The sweet tea is southern sweet tea and was delicious as its was refreshing. The Iceberg Wedge was probably the best I have ever had. It has your normal cherry tomatoes, bacon, onion and blue cheese dressing.(See photo of Iceberg Wedge). The fried green tomatoes were great with an unusual taste that I am use to getting from other fine restaurants. All I can say is that they are not«country» tasting but more of a «citified» taste to them. Other menu items: You can order oysters at the raw bar. There’s all sorts of appetizers to start with after you are seated. They have several sandwiches you can get and of course different kinds of salads to eat like the iceberg wedge. You can order the main entrees along with additional sides to choose from. Then, to top it off order one of numerous desserts. Parking: You can pay to park in the Chattanooga Choo Choo parking lot which is about $ 5 to $ 6. However, I parked for free about one third of a mile down the road. If you don’t mind walking, you can find a free parking space but it might be about two or three blocks away or more. Special Rooms: Stir has the Kabooze Room for private parties located in the back with a great view of the bar with access to the outside seating. The Kabooze room seating capacity is about 30 people with additional seating outside. Regrets: I wanted to sit at the bar but it was full. It looks like you could have sone fun up there. It also looks like it’s great place to socialize. It is the simple truth: Must come early to sit at bar. Happy Hour: Stir does have a happy hour Monday through Friday from 4pm to 6:30. I really want to try this out one day soon. Their prices are reasonable during this time so be sure to try this out as a guest if you have a «bar person» type mentality. Building History: Stir is located in The Chattanooga Choo Choo Building. This landmark is a tourists attraction. It was once a rail station that you buy a ticket to board a train to another city. How cool was that. In summary, I really like this restaurant as I could easily be a regular here. If out of town, my utmost recommendation is to: sit at the bar, ask for Hailey, request for a demo from their ice chef and enjoy a nice meal in a pleasant environment down town on Market Street. Also, be sure to check out the Chattanooga Choo Choo by touring inside and out.

Loved this place. It’s beautiful vintage industrial architecture meets modern style resonates inside and out. From the beautiful glass work of the old windows of the building to the fantastic modern look of the railings and furnishings on the patio you feel you’re somewhere between the late 1890 to 2020. The bartenders are all experts without a doubt. Taking pride in the ice preparation portion of the mixology. Now give me just a moment to be as clear a piece of the Stir’s ice,(you will get this reference once you experience what the Stir’s all about), The only reason I have not given them a 5 star is because I was here for a Unilocal event only and have not had a «dining» experience here. The food? Awesome. Flavorful, cooked to perfection, original, & classic. Something for every palate . The atmosphere? Incredibly trendy! Fun and exciting. The drinks? Oh here’s what I’m about to preach on… Incredible, and I do mean incredible attention has been taken to insure that you have a very eye opening local custom cocktail; with a little mixology science added to it. Evidently somewhere there has been a secret laboratory in the pits of antarctic ice mines or in the East Tennessee mountains where great corn whiskeys are known to be made; That no one has known about until recently. The mad scientists behind the discoveries there have came to Chattanooga to share their findings. Please ask the staff to explain the science behind the ice. You will be glad that you did. I recommend the Elderflower Sour as your first engineered ice experience. As I sipped my drink I tasted it evolve from something good into something amazing. It was like the experience you had as a kid eating a tootsie roll for the first time and finding that chocolatety center!

I’m a beer drinker normally but decided to try the cocktails when I went to STIR. I tried a few different ones and wasn’t disappointed by any. The menu changes often but I only had appetizers which included fried oysters that I can’t quit thinking about. I hope that these stay on the menu. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is very friendly. I see STIR being a huge hit.

Early opening event was exciting. Sampled many interesting cocktails which only whetted my appetite for more. The food was good, but I’m really waiting on the full menu to complete my review. Especially the raw oysters! A great job on the interior overhaul, super cozy.

First, thank you Stephanie and owners of the STIR for hosting our group. I attended this as an open house for Unilocal members. thanks again Stepanie! It was not yet open but I think it opens this Monday. It is located on the corner of the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel(Holiday Inn) and right across from the Terminal Restaurant. I am not sure about parking but I know there is parking behind the Choo Choo but not sure if it is available. I was on my scooter so parking was not a problem for me. For our out of town guests I like to remind them if you downtown at the other end by the Aquarium or in between, there is a free shuttle that will drop you off right at the Choo Choo. The restaurant has high tops, regular tables, standup tables near the bar, outdoor seating and a long bar. The décor is rustic and top of the line. High ceilings and open floor plan was classy and something I would expect in a tourist town like San Francisco or any large city. I actually was excited about the place. We had a great turnout and the wait staff came around and took orders for drinks and they were friendly and very helpful. They were obviously proud and excited to be working there. They chef came out and talked about the food and service and then another gentleman gave us a demonstration of how they make their ice and how pure it is. and trust me it was as clear as could be! The restaurant was full because they were hosting various groups to market and show off the new place. They had an awesome selection of mixed drinks and while they had draught beer(+1), the selection was less than I would expect for such a great place. When the food came out, it was just as impressive. They had oysters, shrimp, fries(cooked the way they should be. might have been peanut oil) and other great samples of food. The meals will have to be great if what I had was any indication. I give it a 5+ and I suggest you give it a try… I will be. and in fact the outside seating is for me. well maybe when it warms up some.

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of STIR and it’s finally here! There’s so much to say. Of course, this is just opening and they are refining some things, but even with that, I give it a 5 star and I’m pretty stingy with my 5 stars. The space is gorgeous! They completely gutted the original building, keeping only the exposed brick and the beautiful windows that were preserved from the original Choo Choo Terminal. It looks amazing. The old and new blending perfectly. It’s very spacious. There’s a Community Table, booths, seating at the oyster bar, the cocktail bar and a large outdoor area that wraps around. The food — I’ve tried a few dishes and can say that I really love the food. The seafood ceviche with shrimp and scallops and avocado is so amazing. They serve it with crackers instead of tortilla chips, which I don’t get. I ate it without the crackers. I also had the crab bisque. Really thick like more of a chowder but who cares. They can call it whatever they want, just keep it coming. It has an oil drizzle on top that gives it a nice flavor aroma. Lots of big chunks of crab. I could eat this all day. Another amazing dish is the scallops. Huge jumbo diver scallops, seared with roasted root vegetables in an orange miso sauce. Holy moly!!! This was probably the best scallops I’ve ever had. And they are very generous with the scallops. You get 5 of them !!! Now the craft cocktails. I’ve already tried several of them. I’m normally a vodka gal but I’ve yet to have a vodka drink there. Whisky, moonshine, brandy, scotch, gin are used in ways that make me love them. The Whiskey Bramble is my fave so far. It’s like a grown up shaved ice with lots of crushed ice. I don’t know everything that’s in it, just trust me and order it. The Ice. The ice is a subject all its own. There is an Ice Chef. What? That’s right, a chef dedicated to making the best ice. Artisanal ice. Ice so pure it’s clear as glass. Ice that is made to compliment the drinks, to even make them better, not just an afterthought. This place is also very affordable, which makes me very happy as I plan to go back many times to try everything!
