Local 191

It was January 30^th when me and my girlfriend decided we wanted to grab lunch with our dogs. It had snowed and been below freezing the majority of the week before, but on the 30^th it was 55 degrees and sunny. A quick call and Local 191 confirmed they would seat us outside so we could enjoy lunch with our dogs. The drinks and food were fantastic as well as the service. The price was also very reasonable. Great job!

My husband and I came here Sunday. I ordered the swizzle. After I was halfway done with my drink I noticed a few pieces of pinkish pulp floating around. I asked the bartender what it was and she said grapefruit… huh I’m allergic to grapefruit, so thank you for the carelessness and cross contamination as I am still sick from it!

Had a great time at Local 191. Our waiter was very friendly and explained the menu throughly, as well as giving us his own personal recommendations. I had the tacos and my fiancé had the grilled cheese sandwich Mac and cheese and both were delicious! Although they have a great selection of beers, I’d wish they had a better/​longer wine selection (for those that don’t drink beer). Local 191 has good food, nice ambiance and great service. I will definitely be back.

Not a bad review… but not great either… average would be about right.
Service: great! Our server was attentive and friendly…
Ambiance: music was nice, the open air was nice… but, there were lots of deadbugs lying around and it was dirty… (but hey, it IS a bar!).
Food: the burrito was OK., The burger and fries were goid, and the veggie sides were good.
Would I go back? Yes, but I would try something different. and, because the service was great!

Judging solely & wholly on Happy Hour, exceptionally priced drinks with a great view of the riverfront. Service a tad slow so place your drink orders wisely if trying to make the most of their special.

This listing should not say good for kids, because they don’t allow kids. I guess you are fine for lunch, but they don’t allow anyone under 21 after 4pm. That’s awfully early. I’ve never seen a non-​bar with a rule like this. It looked nice, but the we were pretty annoyed to find this out when the listing says good for kids. Unilocal and/​or the restaurant really need to fix that.

Great indoor/​outdoor seating looking out on the river! Loved the relaxed atmosphere with nice service. I would go again!

Do not waste your time ordering a cocktail, because it is all a full cup of ice!

The food here was very delicious, great atmosphere, and view! However I am giving 2 stars for the very horrible experience of sitting right down in a giant puddle of water that had formed in the poor choice of modern outdoor seating. Perhaps if you are going to have chairs that allow rain water to pool in them, the staff should have the courtesy to pour out the chairs before sending unknowing victims to the patio! I am also still steamed at the woman sitting across from me who watched me walk right past her and plop down, and then decides to inform me the same thing happened to her! And then tells me I may want to remove my purse from the next seat which was now also completely drenched with water. I never thought to look closely at the seats because the day was beautiful and dry, I guess the water collected the day before? Adding to my dismay, the waitress gives me a few napkins that was no match for the amount of water in the seat. I asked her for a towel to sit my soaking rear on. She apologized and brought the towel, but then went about her work and left all the other seats covered with water and just waiting for unsuspecting victims! I did my duty and saved the next guy from the pending embarrassment. My friends ended up joining me, had a good laugh. And again, the food was extremely tasty. But come on, this was not a good way to make your guests comfortable! I was so happy I decided to change out of my khaki pants. Nightmare.

Outstanding establishment! Great service and scenery (overlooking the river). Great place during the day and at night. Great prices for food and drinks. Favorite place to go in downtown Chattanooga; thus far.

Just left the local 191 outraged, i wish i could have tried some of the drinks everyone on here is taking about. The service stopped me and my friends from getting to try anything on my boyfriend’s birthday. It is about 2pm on a Saturday and there were plenty of servers, at least 6 to 10 and no one came over and even gave us a menu until we had sat there for at least 10 minutes. All the servers were just standing around and talking. While i was sitting there making eye contact with every server, begging someone to give me a menu another woman walked up to the bar and said she was displeased and wanted her check because she had not seen her server in such a long time. Wow i cannot believe how horrible this service was… i will not hesitate to tell everyone how absolutely horrible my experience was. After my friends and i had sat there for about 20 minutes we decided to get up and leave. I wouldn’t ever dream of going back. We ended up walking to another near by place for drinks.

Great place. Strongly recommend the Bloody Mary made with Jalapeño and black pepper infused vodka. This thing bites back.
Food looks great, but today is about booze.

Great experience. I was traveling alone and sat at the bar. The bartender was a doll and carded me. I’m 33 with gray hair, so this is a quick way to endear yourself to me. I had the 191 Bourbon cocktail and it was delicious. Boozy and citrusy, but not to sweet. I hemmed and hawed about my dinner choice, because I’m trying to eat healthfully, but I couldn’t resist the Chicken and Waffle. I’m glad I did! The chicken was a giant, crispy, and juicy chicken tender on top of a fluffy pancake. The pancake almost had a cornbread quality to it. The side of hashbrowns were smothered in a cheesy gravy-​type sauce with a delicious pico de gayo on top. They were great, but a little peppery for me (but I’m sensitive to black pepper). I think the figurative icing on the cake was the hot maple syrup served along side. I saved a few bites of pancake and doused them in maple syrup. It was like dessert! Yum. Great place. I’d definitely come back on my next trip to Chattanooga.

Fantastic, hearty food and a solid bourbon selection. What’s not to like?
Local 191 was a bit out of the way from our hotel in Ooltewah, but it was well worth the trip. Our bartender/​server (Parker) was friendly, helpful, and fun. He didn’t hesitate to recommend his favorite menu items, and he described them with the passion of someone who genuinely enjoyed them. The recommendations (loaded grilled cheese, chicken & pancakes) were on point, too – we loved both!
I’d go out of my way again to come back here. Given that I have a 9-​hour drive back to DC to look forward to, that’s saying something!

I heart Local 191. It’s a great place to have a drink. I love their happy hour and their cocktails. Their spiked lemonade is to die for. I’ve been here when it’s jam packed and when there were only a few people and the service is always great. Bartender will help you figure out what drink is for you and offers great suggestions.
You can’t beat the view, especially on a gorgeous day with the windows open and the view of the river. Love it.

This place could work into a favorite place to go… We went down to a restaurant nearby and decided to go in here instead. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The server took her time and walked us thru her favorites on the menu and why she liked them best.
It was a comfort food night so I had the Cajun Mac & Cheese. It was great! It was obviously made from scratch using quality ingredients and the shrimp were not overcooked in it. I could eat it daily. The drink selection was plentiful with several specials and it was Happy Hour too. They did not have the Southern Comfort my friend wanted. I tried a Gin concoction with Bay leaf and blueberries… It was just okay but I really enjoyed the Iron Horse Stout brew from the Big River brewery two blocks away.
The scenery is nice with outdoor seating and open «wall doors» that bring the outside in. The view of the Tennessee River (½ block away) is relatively unobstructed to Ross’ landing and nice to watch boating and tourist traffic go by.
With good service, good food and a good location/​atmosphere I’ll give it 4 stars on the way to five.

Cajun shrimp Mac n cheese. And an amazing bacon-​infused Old Fashioned with lemon instead of bitters. I know, but try it, you’ll be surprised. (And during $ 5 extended happy hour, no loss if you don’t like it!!)

My favorite bar in town.
The staff is very knowledgeable about their cocktails, the draft beer selections change very often and with great additions. But, the best thing is the view, the style of the place, and just the overall atmosphere you get when you walk in. This place is perfect for a mid-​afternoon drink while looking out onto the river, or a night out with friends. They have the best patio in town, and are next door to the Blue Plate — a première restaurant in town.
It is never overly crowded, so you can grab a drink with a date and not worry about talking over someone else just to entertain him/​her. As well, the music they play is superb — it’s not the overplayed top-​40, and/​or classic rock you get at most bars.
I can’t say enough. Just go!
