Love the prime rib! as a sandwich or by itself it’s excellent! I drive two hours just to enjoy this dish– highly recommended!

I was here and I had a horrible bartender that was rude at closing time I asked her nicely I had sent herd last cal she said this ain’t a bar it’s a restaurant very awful attitude she is a blonde thin that she acted like taking care of her and whoever she didn’t know she was has an awful attitude I don’t care what time it is I have to be professional !!!

Steak was perfectly done to what I ordered. The Mac and cheese was awesome. Salad was very good and service exceptional.
Enough said.

I’ve yet to have anything bad here. By far the best restaurant on this side of town. I’m not really a fan of chains but J. Akexander’s always delivers.
Their prime rib is perfect. The rotisserie chicken can sometimes be overcooked and a bit dry; I imagine they know this about themselves so they include chicken au jus with the meal. Their rattlesnake pasta is flavorful and a huge portion. The veggie burger is surprisingly good; it’s their own recipe. It tastes nothing like meat but is delicious, which I appreciate. People always get into trouble when they try to create something that mimics something else. The skinny fries are annoying to eat but they do taste good. Their dinner salads are huge and aren’t overshadowed by too much dressing. If you’re afraid of that, just get it on the side. My fav appetizers are the smoked salmon and queso.
The carrot cake y’all! First of all, it’s a mammoth piece. Enough for 2 – 3 ppl to share, I’d say. It comes warm and gooey with a cream cheese frosting (not thick) melting all over it. I’m not a sweets person but this cake is crazy good and will somehow make you feel ok about overeating (because if you finished your meal, you’re definitely full at this point).
Ambiance is always the same: romantic but not too much so to make it uncomfortable if you’re there alone or with a friend or family members.
Be careful if you’re on a budget! It’s nothing to spend 100 bucks here and the wait staff always deserve a great tip.

We dined here on Mother’s Day — the busiest day in the restaurant business — and it was fabulous. They had all hands on deck and maintained their impeccable manner in food preparation and service. The restaurant was clean (and we dined late in the day) and the workers were on their game. I applaud their stellar style and ability to handle a truly overwhelming day for a business. I’ll be back!!!

Great food and great service provided by Manuel. The filet was cooked at a nice medium rare plus while the potato was huge and well dressed. Great place for a special evening, Mothers’ Day or any nice occasion.

When I’m in the mood for a diverse menu, attentive service, and a sophisticated atmosphere– I come straight here! This place never disappoints. If you can’t find something to your taste here — you’re simply not hungry!

So I had never been to a J Alexander’s before and didn’t know much about them but the general feeling I got was that of a higher end box restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, a bit laid back with the right noise level to not worry about bothering the table next to you.
My food was mediocre at best. I was interested in something light so I got grouper with mango salsa and couscous. It was NOT a light meal. I thought it was very heavy with butter and sat uncomfortably in my stomach the rest of the night. The flavor was ok but was overpowered by the butteriness of the food and in my opinion was also over salted.
The service on the other hand was fantastic. We got a free appetizer because they called our party before our table was actually ready and we had to wait like 2 extra minutes for our table (the horror, I know). I thought that was a much nicer gesture than was required for what I thought was a pretty insignificant issue. Our server was also very friendly, knowledgable, and bantered with us throughout the evening. I asked for a wine recommendation based on my meal and personal taste and they nailed it perfectly.
Overall the experience was fine but the combination of price and food quality really drove my rating here. I think the meal was simply too expensive to be drowned in butter and salt and for the price I would have expected better.

Unfortunately, they don’t know how to be efficient and take togo orders over the phone. Sometimes I am in a rush and need a quick quality meal. I would rather have quality than drive thru. Most quality restaurants allow for call-​in orders. However, this restaurant doesn’t allow for call-​ins. If I had time to sit at the restaurant I would, but that’s not always the case. Wish they would catch up with the times.

A large group of coworkers came here on a Tuesday afternoon for an early dinner. We sat outside on the patio. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. I had the cilantro shrimp. I will probably return when in Chatanooga.

Average restaurant, nothing outstanding here. It’s a typical chain restaurant. Food is okay and what one expect for a chain. It’s located in the mall area of Chattanooga.

The food was better than okay. Slightly better than a really good meal at Chili’s.
The atmosphere is great, and the service was amazing. Our server (Brian) was attentive, informative, knowledgeable, and paced things perfectly. Drinks were refilled, orders were taken and delivered, If I were just rating the service, 5 stars would be super easy.
We had the salmon appetizer and it was not dissimilar from a dish I make at home with canned salmon. While not bad, it did not come across as fresh salmon.
I deferred to the cook’s judgement on the doneness of the tuna, and apparently the cook really likes overdone fish. This was totally my mistake, and I should have just asked for rare.
The macaroni was amazing. I had it for both of my sides, and no regrets. The crème brûlée had a nice snap and tasted fresh and delicious.
For 10% lower price, I would say the food was amazing, the service impeccable. At the price, I expect the food to be slightly better.

The food was delicious. I had a home made veggie burger which was very impressive.
The ambience is ideal for dates and catching up.
The service was great too. The waitress kept checking on us. :)

My husband and I go here all of the time. The quality, service and atmosphere is great. I love everything we have tried. The salad is so good. The chicken fingers are amazing. The rotisserie chicken with the mashed are delicious. The only thing that I don’t like is that they do not take to go order overs the phone. You must come in the store and wait at the bar. I believe they do this so you will tip their waiters. Maybe they should just do a service fee. My dad was in the hospital and just wanted J Alexander’s and they wouldn’t let me make a phone order. I was bummed to have leave him that long.

For the area it’s a good option. Compared to the restaurants in Atlanta, I’d give it a 2.
We had a reservation for Valentine’s Day expecting brunch, but lunch menus were given.
Our server was semi-​engaging and only needed reminding a few times.
I ordered a salad with avocado and baked potato. It was pretty standard. Potato a tad overlooked. My husband had a Veggie burger with fries that he enjoyed was didn’t wow him.
Bathrooms were clean and bar area was secluded from restaurant.
Overall a good experience! Thank you J. Alexander’s!

I walked in to be placed on the wait list for dinner. (First time). There were three employees working behind the counter. With no customers around. I stood there for just under five minutes before walking out. Not a single one could muster something as simple as a ‘hello, it will be just one moment.’ One hid in the corner folding napkins, one of was on the phone and one did stand there doing nothing a little over a foot infront of me staring blankly. Extremely rude, was looking forward to it as well.

I have been going to J. Alexander’s for years and can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal or bad service there. Everyone on staff is so nice and helpful. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is so welcoming. I am loving their recent remodel! This place just keeps getting better and better :)

Had the white bean soup and it was an amazing way to start the meal. I followed the soup with the tuna cooked rare which was absolutely delicate in my palate. I got the orzo and wildrice as one of my sise dish, it was so refreshingly fresh and tasty. The mc n cheese was super creamy and delicious one of the best i have tasted. For dessert I had the carrot cake which was warm and moist! And the icing was my favorite part of the dessert. To drink i has the pelegrino water which is unlimited refills and I also had the capucinno which was not my best bean flavor but it was made and brewed very well. ALL and all one of the best meals ive had in this part of town.

Did not end up eating here because this restaurant does not take pick up orders (take out) with call in orders. You have to go to the bar, make your order, and wait.
Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!

Most recent dining experience was not so good, while past 3 were so much better. This was a dinner versus lunch but that being said I was so disappointed. My guest seemed fine with his meal, yet mine was not only disappointing, the service was less than satisfactory. Ordered a NY Strip Steak which was something I craved for a few weeks, asked for it to be done medium rare with a bit charred; it came out much too quickly and while you saw some charring on the outside, the inside was cold, as if they slid it across the grill. Once it came back the meat went to overdone. Waitress was overall not at attentive and forgot to follow through on the few requests. Truly hope this was just a bad night.

My absolute favorite! And now, the building is remodeled, too! You can’t go wrong. The basics. The specials. The drinks. The service. The bartenders.
All the best in one casually friendly, yet sophisticated, restaurant. Suits me to a tee! I’m never bored and it’s always fabulous! Don’t leave without Carrot Cake!

Great food, great atmosphere and great service! My shrimp tacos were wonderful!

J Alexander’s is one of the best dining experiences in Chattanooga. It is clean, from the hostesses when you walk in the door, to the servers, the food is absolutely AMAZING! There are often comments on the pricing — however for the quality and the amount of food it is well worth it. I go often with my friends, my family & sometimes by myself. The desserts are Awesome as well. I love the carrot cake which is served warm & the key lime pie is delicious & I am not a fan of key lime pie… Enjoy!!!

Great costumer service! We had a bit of a wait before our waitress greeted us. Partly because she was new and the other part was because she had a difficult table in her section beside us. Micheal the manager quickly noticed and offered his apologies. Not only did he stop by once, he went beyond by checking in several more times and even cleaning our table. To top it off he brought us our favorite desert on the house. Being a business owner myself I cherish establishments like this. Sometime you pay for what you get. J Alexander’s has again earned a long time customer. Thanks Michael.

First time here not knowing what to expect. Nicer and more on the modern side than I expected. Cloth napkins and excellent service, if you ask where the restroom is they will escort you!! Went for lunch the food was very good but the portions are too large and pricy for lunch otherwise a 5 star! I ordered fish tacos it came with 3 at $ 16… I could only eat one and I have a healthy appetite, took the rest home, good but could have used more sauce. Husband had the cheese burger & fries… perfectly cooked to order, good size and very tasty. Shoe string fries piled high were good too. We only had iced tea for drinks and fresh glasses replaced without asking. I think if they cut there lunch portions and the prices I would be happier to go back for lunch and not feel like I needed to celebrate a special occasion!!!

I mean J Alexander’s is pretty much the same in terms of food no matter where you go. Staff is pretty good. This location has 2 bars, one in the front, and a smaller one in back near the kitchen.
Our server was Brian, and he is top notch. Very attentive, and takes care of you. If you go here ask for him. Otherwise, just what you’d expect from J Alexander’s…

Must say was quite pleasantly surprised for a multitude of reasons.
First where else but chattanooga and J Alexander’s can you feed 10 from a work event for $ 300 plus tip! Yes some of us had a drink. Some had steaks. I mean wow.
So I had the ahi tuna salad. Quite excellent. Perfectly rare as expected.
Apps were queso and chips and flatbread pizzas. The queso is beyond amazing. Recommend to all

Management is rude. Does not resolve problems. Do not order to go, portion sizes absurdly small. I don’t mind paying for quality, but I don’t like getting ripped off either.
Also, this place seems like it’s supposed to be one of the nicer restaurants in the area and the atmosphere is fairly nice, but it doesn’t seem like people treat it as such. We always get strange looks from people and then we realize we’re usually the only ones that actually dressed appropriately (ie not wearing football sweater and cap) to go out to a «nice» restaurant.
And last point, be prepared to get attitude and/​or subpar treatment if you look the least bit young… As if you’re not good enough or can’t afford to eat at such an establishment. That’s not to say that everyone here is rude, it’s just a general attitude.

Whenever I first walked into this place… I absolutely wanted to throw up. Just the smell of raw cattle was not appealing at all, I am very sensitive and know it’s a steakhouse but didn’t think it would of been that strong. Beside that, my experience along with 12 other family members was noting but TOP NOTCH!!! Our waitress went above and beyond! The food was phenomenal! I had the salmon and rice as a side. I’m not a huge rice fan but wow, thAts the best rice I’ve ever had at an American restaurant!!! The salmon was also good! My bf had the prime rib. Cook perfected and tasted very good too! We also had calamari which was good, and for dessert we had carrot cake and crème burlee. Both great! Everything was delicious here! We had nothing but great service and great food! We will deff. be back!

This place just makes you feel high class. The food is impeccable. Their steak can’t be beat, and you’ve got to try the salmon or you’ll regret it. Service is lovely & always smiling. If you’re in town, and wanting a hot date, check this place out. Hubby and I eat here whenever we drop into Chattanooga!

I ate here twice.
First time I had just a terrible look from everyone who worked here. They looked at me as if I was the not of age to drink, broke, college student. Let’s get things right… I’m not some broke looking college student. I was there to get some damn good food and enjoy a few drinks. The bartender looked at me in such a dirty way and didn’t even acknowledge me for service. I had to flag him down and ask him for a freaking drink. I sat at the bar to enjoy a couple of drinks and still he just looked at me as if I was the idiot. This is his job… to serve customers. Well, don’t look at me like I’m not there seeing your expression. I’m there for a reason.
Finally after asking him for a menu and a drink menu, which he resisted to give me, I finally got them.
Service sucks soooo much here. Getting drinks is slow and ridiculous. It was like I had to just go back there and make it myself. NEVER have I ever had such a terrible time ordering anything.
When ordering my dinner I asked what the crab cakes were made from, what kind of crab. The server just looked at me and said «jumbo lump crab.» Clearly she isn’t smart. The manager didn’t even know what kind of crab meat they used. It was just so sad and ridiculous. Managers should know all ingredients in all their dishes. EVERYTHING. That’s part of the managers job, especially for those who have allergies. I finally got an answer by reading the container myself. It’s a horrible way to even start the night such as so. I ordered the crab cakes just to give it a try.
They were delicious! Finally true crab cakes! They weren’t over filled with bread crumbs or other fillers. It was mainly CRAB. Giant crab pieces and extremely flavorful. They were delicious.
Drink was not great at all. I asked for something off their drink menu and the bartender pretty much just gave me the drink «sex on the beach» which I did not want that. I want something unique not something that a dirty club would give me.
Bartender was just dumb and treated me terribly. I will forever hate that guy.
2^nd time I dined here again the night after. I brought my co-​worker with me and we had the crab cakes and the salmon. Crab cakes were delicious. Their mac and cheese was out of this world, crazy good.
Salmon was over cooked and just pretty bland. We had some high expectations for this place with their food and overall experience.
I would give this place a 2 star rating but the only reason why they’re getting a 3 star is because the crab cakes and mac and cheese was good.
SERVICE SUCKS HERE! EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE. If I could give a rating for the service I would give them nothing. HORRIBLE SERVICE
