Solid local haircut alternative to chains like Great Clips. Barbers here actually care about giving you a good haircut. Don’t let the less sleek appearance fool you, Menscutz is the best haircut shop I’ve found in the Chapel Hill area.

Jin is the hidden gem in all of chapel hill… she is salon trained and I have never gotten a better haircut from a «barber shop» before… they have frequent turnover because she expects the best out of her staff and it shows. I have never gotten a poor haircut and I have gotten butchered several times before from sport clips and other chains… they do both men’s and women’s haircut and offer old school shaving… call ahead if you want Jin because she is booked solid!

Many cuts later, nothing but praise for Madison’s great work. Great place, great cuts, FANTASTIC Hair Stylist!

Good quality haircuts and an excellent value. Madison is particularly good with both men’s and women’s hair, but she has a special talent for women’s styling.

I’m in town for the weekend and needed a cut. Ended up in Jame’s chair and he did a good job. I recommend him. Yeah, I have a very simple haircut but because it’s simple, it’s surprisingly very easy to mess up (I’ve had two subpar haircuts within the past month). James, however, did awesome. He paid attention to detail and took his time. I was in his chair while one anther had two people with LONG hair in and out of their’s. So, he doesn’t rush through a cut.

Prices are fair but all three of the ladies took a really long time cutting hair.
This is a barber shop… We shouldn’t have waited an hour to get a haircut. there were 3 people in front of us, but that’s still too much time per haircut.
Probably won’t be returning.

Jin does the sharpest, cleanest fades I’ve ever seen. Tip big, because $ 14 is a steal for how great the haircuts are.

My boyfriend has started getting his hair cut here every few weeks, and every time he gets it cut it looks better and better. He’s working with Mari to get the look he wants by keeping his sides short and letting the top of his hair grow so he can style a certain way, and she has basically read his mind when he can’t quite put into words what he wants. He is always extremely happy with his cut and the advice she has given him on styling products far surpasses the Axe pomade I bought him at Wal Mart! We will definitely continue to be repeat customers!

The best place to get a haircut in all of Chapel Hill, no doubt. I’ve been coming here for a year now, and Jin and her staff welcome you like family. They pay attention to detail, and offer expert advice to amateurs, such as myself. Anything you want, they can do. I’ve gotten my haircut at every other place in Chapel Hill, and none compare. Hands down the best place I’ve ever gotten my haircut in my life. I’ll be sad to be leaving this area soon, and this is one of the places I’ll miss most.

If you’re a guy in the RTP that needs an AWESOME haircut, but don’t want to pay $ 30+ for it, Menscutz is where it’s at.
Last week began my quarter-​life crisis in which I decided I needed a change in my life. I pulled up Unilocal,found a new salon with good ratings, and went for it. No appointment. No real idea of what I wanted.
The wait before they sat me with Gospel wasn’t long at all, maybe about 5 minutes. I literally told her, «I have no clue what I want. I just need something fresh and new.» We looked over a few pictures together to get an idea, and then she took over.
She did an absolutely fabulous job, especially considering the fact that I was completely unhelpful. Also, she and the other stylists were a lot of fun to talk to and made the experience great.
I think what impressed me most was her attention to detail and the time she put into making sure every edge was clean-​cut. She even told me to just stop in for a quick touch up when I needed it. Also, she took the time to lather up my neck and use a straight razor (rather than the usual clippers)!
To top it all of, the whole thing was only $ 14!
What really sets Menscutz apart from other places is the low cost, specialization for me, AND creativity/​trendiness. Without a doubt, I will definitely be back in there for my next cut!

First time here today and will be a repeat customer in the future. I’m Asian and it is usually difficult for barbers unfamiliar with my type of hair to work with. However, Jin has cut quite a bit of Asian hair and she got my haircut perfect. I think you can tell how much experience a barber has by the attention they pay to small details and she did a fine job. My haircut was a disconnected undercut and she properly clamped my top hair out the way while giving me an awesome fade on the sides and made sure all my lines were crisp.
Standard cut was the fair price of $ 14. The staff was very complimentary and got me a quick appointment within 30 minutes of me calling in. There was no rush and they made you feel great. They have a diverse cast of barbers ready for all different types of hair.
This is just my opinion, but I think if they changed their name to something more approachable the shop would bring in even more customers.

My wife and I flew down to Chapel Hill to visit our daughter for the weekend but I really needed a haircut and beard trim. In fact when my daughter saw me, she urged me to consider getting groomed! While I was a little skeptical of just walking into a strange barbershop, I did a little research on Unilocal and decided to go to MENSCUTZ Barber & Stylists. Their website said «walk-​ins welcome» and my angellic daughter was more than happy to drop me off, and go do the crossword puzzle with my wife! at a nearby coffee shop. After waiting a few minutes, the manager introduced me to Lisa who would be my stylist. Lisa chatted with me to get an appreciation of how I like my hair cut and then proceeded to do a great job cutting my hair and trimming my beard. She then gave me an incredible neck massage that was awesome. I couldn’t believe how reasonable the price was (only $ 20) since I walked out transformed and distinguished looking! While it’s a long way from NYC to come for a haircut, it’s certainly a great place to come, if you live in the area of Chapel Hill!

Got my hair cut by Gospel a few weeks ago. It came out better than the fancy expensive places I’d been getting it cut for $ 35 and was a fraction of the cost. I’ll be a regular.

Had to get a cut on short notice so I went here instead of my usual place (a high end salon) which usually requires an appointment several weeks in advance.
I received my haircut from the owner (Jin) who was great. Very personable and clearly a perfectionist when it comes to hair.
Btw, I’m an Asian guy and, as other Asian guys can probably attest, sometimes having random new people cut my hair has resulted in a more… abstract look than I care for. One of the cool things about this place is that they have a diverse staff that seem like they can handle any type of hair type and style. While I was there, there were literally clients of every type and, in my unprofessional opinion, everyone seemed to get a great cut for their specific needs and hair type.
Anyway, a great place to get a cut and at a much lower price than you have to pay at a salon. For guys who get their hair cut every few weeks, this adds up fast. The only hesitation for me in writing this review is that they will become so buy that I won’t be able to walk in without an appointment so easily in the future.

My first time here, and I will be a repeat customer. Came in for a haircut after my usual barber shop was busy (The Guys Place) on a Tuesday 3:00 pm. There weren’t any customers before me and I was seen by Gospel immediately, she gave me a quick tour if their services and prices, I decided on the hair cut and Hot Lather shave. Haircut by Gospel felt like a true gospel, I didn’t have to explain much to her, she knew instantly what would suit me and gave me one of the best hair cuts in a while. She is a true artist with Scissors and clippers. Haircut also includes hot towel on the nape of the neck, but wash/​shampoo is extra.
After the hair cut I switched seats over to Jin’s station for the shave. The $ 16 Hot lather Shave, though a bit pricey, is an experience in itself. I tried to keep track of all the steps she went through, but after a couple of hot towels on the face, I think I dozed off, excellent job here as well.
I will definitely repeat.

Menscutz cut my 6 and 2 year old boys’ hair. They were very good with the kids. They had a small car for the 2 yo to sit in, which he loved. He also loved that they took a picture of him afterwords. The cut was inexpensive and great for both my boys. They did a great job with the kids. Very friendly atmosphere.

Miss Cindy cut my hair, and I had a very pleasant experience. I came from San Diego and needed to find a new salon to call home.
I grew up in a barber shop, where my parents have been serving customers for 30+ years. So, my standards — anything less than a warm atmosphere & excellent service is discredited — are quite high.
I loved this place because Cindy did a fantastic job at helping me look great. I got an undercut («hipster» haircut), where the sides are clipped with a 2 and my hair combed over. I got exactly what I wanted and was quite satisfied.
The price is extremely reasonable and competitive, so I recommend giving your salonists a nice tip :) ($ 4-​$ 5 if you can afford it!)

Great place for a kid’s haircut.
I brought my 18-​month old son here, and he really enjoyed the experience. He was very entertained by the car chair that honks and plays music, and even when the spritzers, clippers and blowers came out, he sat very still and didn’t make a fuss… I think Miss Cindy has got quite the touch!
For my son’s first professional haircut, it couldn’t get any better than this. They did a great job, and the Grand Opening price of $ 10 was just icing on the cake. I would definitely recommend this barbershop for children.
