Delicious Santa Lucia pinot — a bit more expensive than I like, but totally worth it. Very friendly service and pretty convenient!

I had my book launch here two days ago, and I couldn’t have expected a better book event! Kristen McIntyre and the staff were so gracious and efficient in planning the event with me. Invited guests had a selection of 2014 Rose of Pinot Noir, 2014 Santa Lucia Highland Pinot Noir, and NV l’Homme Qui Ris Sparkling to drink. We would definitely recommend this tasting room in Carmel for any festive event for 40 – 45 guests. I know we plan to have our next celebration here and look forward to the selection we will be receiving as wine club members! You will not be disappointed!

«Wine enters through the mouth, Love, the eyes. I raise the glass to my mouth, I look at you, I sigh.» ― W.B. Yeats Such a beautiful verse by Yeats. Whenever I’ve been in love, wine is always involved. And even when it is painful as it is now, vino is the reason, it is also the solace. Stopped in here after lunch and in the middle of an all day road trip. The McIntyre Estate Vineyard lies in Monterey County’s Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, a 12-mile stretch of benchland that is one of California’s premier cool-climate winegrowing areas. Originally planted in 1973, the 80-acre site(60 acres planted) boasts some of the Highlands’ oldest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The winery’s other estate property is the 81-acre Kimberly Vineyard in Arroyo Seco. Proprietor Steve McIntyre is also owner/operator of Monterey Pacific and farms 11,000 acres in Monterey County. The McIntyre Estate Vineyard was among the first properties in the Santa Lucia Highlands to be SIP(Sustainability In Practice) Certified.(Mostly taken from winery website although I took out some of the flowery marketing language). My stop was at the McIntyre Vineyards Tasting Studio in Carmel. It is in the Crossroads Shopping center. It is a modern, sleek yet inviting tasting room. I forgot the name of the attractive younger blonde who was pouring but she was friendly, knowledgeable and she loved to hike in the area so that at least I remembered ;-) I tasted a variety of wines and what was interesting was not that they had Chardonnay and Pinot(usual SLH suspects), but also a sparkling wine, Dornfelder, Tannant and an everyday drinking Merlot that was actually quite lovely(I usually don’t drink any f*cking Merlot unless it comes from Washington or the Right Bank). But this was nice along with the Estate Pinot(a balanced, complex, earthy wine). Impressed, I bought the Dornfelder, Estate Pinot and the Merlot(and not because of the attractive server, get your head out of the ground). I tasted along with a lovely german couple and enjoyed this respite from exploring and hiking very much. I will be back and I recommend you make a visit too!

Stumbled in here quite by accident. Tried some very good wines including a very tasty Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Veronique was very helpful, she want out of her way to get me a gift bag and tissue paper for the bottle I bought for a friend and she made the tasting a fun experience.

Recommended by the good people at the Morgan tasting room across the way, Mcintyre was not on our agenda, but was a welcome discovery as we toured the wine region — especially since our time was limited. A modern tasting room with a cool design — rocks along the walls held in place by wiring gives in a wine cave feel — located in a busy shopping center instead of near vineyards, but worth the trade off to avoid the wine trail madness. Well informed staff gave us a rundown of the winery and the region as we tasted: Chardonnay, Dry Rose of Pinot, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. Arroyo Seco Merlot was the standout: Dark, deep fruit, hints of olive and forest floor, soft tannins.

If you’re not a usual fan of red wine, give the Pinot Noir a try. Pleasantly rich without any lingering tannins I was sold after my complimentary tasting glass(guests at the hotel will have a card with their room key for this) to go on for a full tasting. This winery is going for the unusual German and Spanish varieties and it’s a success in the bottle where they’re growing the grapes. A handful of bottles are in local stores in Monterey but go to the tasting room if you can. Jacklyn is a fantastic pourer. She’ll give you as much information as you want about the winemaker, history of the grape varietals, and great tips for food pairings. I came in half an hour before closing with my group and stayed till closing for how fun the tasting went. Definitely something to wind down the evening with before dinner. Can’t wait till the winery is able to branch out into a bigger dedicated tasting room!

Great little tasting studio, tucked inside the Hyatt Monterey. I was pleasantly surprised how many delicious wines they had. A complementary taste card was included in our Hyatt stay.

My boyfriend and I came here over Valentine’s Day weekend while staying at the Hyatt Regency Monterey. We decided to take advantage of the $ 5 wine tasting they were offering for Valentine’s Day, and I am so happy we did! The«Valentine’s Day» flight was great. I especially enjoyed the McIntyre sparkling wine, and the Vin Gris of Pinot Noir(rosé). Since we were off to a great start, the boyfriend and I decided to taste all flights and wines made available. In the end, we purchased two of my favorites: McIntyre 2008 Mission Ranch Pinot Noir and 2011 Estate Chardonnay. Though the wines were great, the server was absolutely fantastic! She introduced my boyfriend and I to wines I had never heard of(Tannat and Albariño), and taught us some wine lingo(«fruit forward» and«legs»). I greatly appreciated and enjoyed the mini«wine lesson» as it truly elevated my wine tasting experience. Overall, we really enjoyed the selection of wines and had an absolute blast chatting with the server and other hotel guests. This wine studio is convenient, fun, and is a must for any guest of the hotel.
