On Wednesday April 6th, I met up with a friend at 5pm exactly when Kombit opens. The bartender was extremely nice and friendly. She was also very accommodating and welcoming. We were the only folks in the restaurant and got all the attention we needed from our very attentive bartender/waitress. She throughly explained all of our dishes, the difference between on our sauces, and gravy. I ordered the stew chicken and gravy which was absolutely delicious. The gravy was thick and true to Haitian food. I recommend the fried Akra with pickle’s for your appetizer. You won’t regret it. The music wasn’t too loud and It almost makes you want to get up and dance. The drinks on the menu are bit too sweet for me and I didn’t really care for both of my drink choices. However, if you are fan of sugar bomb alcoholic drinks, Kombit is for you. On our way out, our very gregarious bartender gave us complimentary shots of whisky. She was awesome and fun to be around.

I haven’t been here in a long time, but I do remember enjoying the food and their drinks. I had their griot and it was so good. I may have to make a trip back to see if their griot is still delicious like I remember.

Damn I can’t believe my 4 stars is going down to a 2. I used to big this place up a lot! One night after attending my boyfriends show, we decided we wanted Haitian food. Since we were around the area we figured we stopped by kombit. There were four of us, The wait wasn’t bad. But that’s not the worse part: The food quality went down. I don’t know if it’s because we came late, but I was very disappointed. The griot tasted as though they had just warmed it up in the microwave and called it a day. It did not taste fresh. The rice was the long grain rice(not a fan) and was dry as hell. I was embarrassed because I brought 2 of our good friends here. We could have went anywhere but we chose kombit. And for the food to taste that mediocre?! It lacked an exponential amount of luster. What happened to the kombit that I knew to be great? What happened to the amazing griot you guys used to make — tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside? Please don’t fall off guys. We need more successful/amazing Haitian or black owned restaurants in our community. I don’t want to give up on this establishment because it has major potential! DOBETTER.

This was my first time having Haitian fare. I went with a group of close family friends(who are all Haitian) to celebrate a birthday. First thing to note: The food/service are just extremely slow! My group told me that this is typical of all Haitian places so I just went with the flow. Lol However, the staff were all very nice and personable – serving the guests with a smile. ATMOSPHERE: Kompa/Zouk music played loudly throughout the night. It really gets you in the mood. But, you cannot dance as they have a sign posted that says ‘No Dancing’. Lol FOOD: The apps were pretty blah… I personally ordered the calamari(worst I’ve had). The other things that I tried were traditional Haitian apps that I’ve since forgotten the names of, but those were not enjoyable. One of the things reminded me of a croquet in appearance and texture, but it was extremely dry and bland. For the main course I had legume beef – which is a beef stew. It came with a side of rice and beans and plantains. The first thing I noted was the appearance of the food – it honestly looked dry. The beef stew was none like I’d ever seen. It was mashed and mixed up with the vegetables. While the flavor/seasoning was alright, the beef was overcooked and the ends of the beef seemed to be burnt(it’s kind of hard to describe). The plantains also were something I’m not used to. I was hoping that those tasted good – but they weren’t. I’m used to sweet plantains(maduro) or fried plantains(tostones). Honestly, the best tasting thing on the plate were the rice and beans! I also tasted some of the black rice and was less than thrilled. DRINKS: Drinks were good. I had cranberry juice and a Kola Lacaye(which tastes just like the typical kola champagne drink from the Caribbean islands). I won’t be returning, but I am glad to have had the experience.

Made a reservation for last night for my husband I. This was my second time there. They had a private party but still accommodated us. The waitress and waiter were awesome, customer service was on point. I have no complaints about the food. And the manager was personable. I am Haitian and complain a lot about how there are not enough Haitian restaurants that have it all around. Kombit did. Will definitely go back.

I really like Kombit. I went in on a Friday evening to a live band. The food is well seasoned. Everything is appropriated priced for the location but I think the inside could use a remodel if they want people to pay those price. Food is worth it ambiance is not.

If you want a good experience with Haitian food this is a great start. I have used them for an engagement party back in 2011 and they were great. Since then I’ve frequented them every so often and while service should improve the Food is absolutely amazing! Take your none Haitian friends here and see the amazement as they bite into some Tassot with pikliz and they gracefully dance around your taste buds.

My boyfriend and I decided to try this Haitian restaurant we did arrive a little early however the lady told us to wait for 15 minutes and we decided to wait since we never tried haitian cuisine. The lady called us in fairly quick and we were seated by the window and when we ordered we received a complimentary appetizer as part of our wait. I ordered the vegetable stew with tender beef and the dish comes with rice and plantains, my boyfriend ordered the fried pork chunks which came with a red sauce and peppers. The vegetable stew is sweet and the beef is tender. The fried pork tastes delicious with the sauces. I ordered the iced tea and it was unique and delicious. They also have a delicious selection of cocktails. Overall the food was packed with flavor and it was exceptional I would recommend this restaurant to everyone and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. My boyfriend and I were very happy for coming here and we will certainly come again soon!

We were looking for a place to eat and strolled past Kombit. We had never had Haitian food before and decided to give the restaurant a try. It was 2:20 p. m on a Sunday which is important because they don’t officially opened until 3:00 p.m. However, the lady inside was very nice and said we could be seated in ten minutes. We waited outside and were soon called inside. Even though I felt it was our fault for coming too early, the kitchen sent us an akra appetizer plate free of charge for the wait which I thought was remarkable. My girlfriend order the vegetable stew with beef chunks, while I ordered the fried pork. Both dishes came with rice with beans and plantains. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and were very impressed with the superb flavor. The pork came with a red sauce and chopped yellow peppers which complimented the meat very well. My girlfriend also had the iced tea which had a tasty unique flavor. The service was great which made the experience all the better.

I came here with a group of friends for happy hour. The drinks were strong and inexpensive. There was live music on a Saturday night around 8PM.

Great drinks. They’re very strong and delicious. The bartenders are nice and accommodating and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. They have good Haitian music playing and you just might catch a live band if you go on the weekend.

Cool spot. Live music. Not overly impressed with the cuisine, but it’s passable. The paintings and decisions are great. I’d come here again.

I went to this restaurant last Sunday while I was in Brooklyn for the day. For a Sunday evening, it wasn’t too busy, which was a plus. I was seated immediately and given a glass of water. The décor is nothing spectacular which is fine with me. The place was clean(no insects of any sorts) and not loud at all. Being a Haitian man myself, I enjoyed the kompa music coming from the sound system. The bartender(possibly the owner as well) was very nice and cheery. That was good. Now, the food! For starters, I had the fried akra with pikliz on the side! That was good! I’m not one or fried foods but I told myself one day wouldn’t kill me. That was fantastic! For my main course, I had the legume militon(vegetarian legume) with diri djon djon(what many refer to as black rice) and plantains. The legume was awesome! It’s been years since I’ve had it and it did not disappoint. The«black rice» was eh! I dont think they allowed the mushrooms to boil enough to get the actual rice black. The mushrooms is where the black color comes from and it lacked a lil bit of flavor but the legume covered that base. Only a Haitian person would be able to understand what I’m saying about the rice. I was only given two plantains on my plate and this maybe a bit… Eh… But I would’ve preferred maybe 4. Maybe that’s because I live plantains. Overall though, I would definitely eat here again. It was not s bad experience at all. In case the owner maybe reading this, thanks again for the wonderful food and service.

My boyfriend and I have been to this place before, but more recently on a Sunday afternoon. We were both extremely hungry and couldn’t resist the idea of eating this food again. When we walked in, they were setting up for an event but the Hostess quickly seated and welcomed us. We ordered drinks, mango juice, a berry rum punch, and prestige beer which is a Haitian lager. I must say the rum punch was great, very tasty and strong. He ordered a gumbo style shrimp with black rice and I had griot and black rice. I must say it was very good. I ordered sauce on the side, while it was not as good as my boyfriend’s sauce, it did the job. The food never disappoints… well for the times I’ve been there. The flavor is just right, not too bland but not too salty. Only reason it gets 4 stars was because when we walked in the place sort of smelled like vinegar and a dirty wet mop… not typical. I asked my boyfriend just to make sure it wasn’t just me, and it wasn’t. Normally bad scents turn me off about a place but after a while my nose adjusted to the smell and the only thing I could smell was my food cooking in the kitchen. :)

As a Haitian, the food is good but I wouldn’t say it was spectacular. Those drinks tho… On point! All of them are excellent and strong but don’t taste like rubbing alcohol. That perfect balance of being able to taste the liquor but not feeling like you’re sipping fire. The service has always been great for me. Reading the menu outside with my date, the host approached us and said come inside for drinks on him which was GREAT. Also the waitress came outside in the freezing cold as we were leaving just to say thank you for coming. They also play kompa music on Thursday night but it is pretty loud, can’t really have a conversation with some one right across the table from you when that music is on
