I had a craving for Haitian food and more particularly boulettes. The food here is really good. I’m a big fan of the boulettes(meatballs) and the égumes are also tasty. On this visit, my friend had the fried chicken, which I meant to try but I was too busy stuffing my face with meatballs and rice, but she says it was very good. Each meal comes with a little teaser salad with lettuce, beets, and sometimes tomato and or a couple of red peppers and onions. They give you a bit of pasta with a red sauce to go with it as well. There is also an additional portion of rice with beans that you receive. They gave me very large portion with today’s order I guess to serve the both of us. It would serve four people easily and it’s very good. The dining area is small but they’ve got a big screen TV in there to liven the vibe up and there is nice artwork on the walls. It’s a good change of pace from the other more typical caribbean restaurants which focus on Trinidadian and Jamaican cuisine.

Came here on a Sunday around 2pm for takeout. I didn’t wait a ridiculously long time for my food which was pretty tasty. I ordered the legume with djon djon and my friend had the poule en sauce with djon djon. Took away a star because they did not have any rice and beans which my friend had wanted but the djon djon was very well prepared so that kind of made up for it. Also I was surprised they did not include any pikliz(hot sauce) which I did not notice til I got home. Prices range from about $ 8-$ 11 and the portions are big. This is your typical haitian spot and I found it perfect for takeout. Was not expecting anything fancy. Just good food. Will check it out again to sample other dishes.

Not a fan. I will give it a 2nd shot but I expected more. I was not impressed with the food, i ordered take out. Rice & beans with griot was not seasoned enough. Didn’t give me enough sauce for my rice either and I asked for a lot. The place is a typical Flatbush hole in the wall joint. That doesnt bother me as long as the food comes out the back tasting flavorful. I hope I just came on a bad day but it was disappointing. Maybe next time

When I first wrote this review before posting I gave it a 5. I had ordered on a Saturday during the day, there was plenty of options(legume, lambi, griot, tassot, poisson, poule en sauce, diri kole, diri blan, sos pois) and the food was delicious. Every time I have returned it lost a star. The last time I ordered it was on a Thursday evening and there were not many options. The food tasted like it was sitting around for a while and I guess I was the lucky person to get the food before they threw it out. The food tastes great, when you order during its busiest times [weekends, afternoon](the irony). I would recommend that you call before going and ask what they have.

If you are looking for authentic Haitian food, then look no further. Venus offers delicious dishes daily. You may have to wait awhile but once you taste their fare, you will soon realize that it is certainly worth the wait. Their boulet(meatballs) are second to none, as are their oxtails and griot(fried pork). They use basmati rice that is always cooked to perfection and if you order the large, you can literally share it among three or four people. Always seasoned just right, you cant go wrong at Venus.

This place is the kind of a hole in the wall type of restaurant but the food is off the chain. The stew turkey is my favorite. The black bean and white rice along with the turkey makes me wanna say oh yeah: My other favorite meal is legume. Like home cooking; this dish is that most haitians eat on sundays. The drinks there are amazing. Good place for an haitian meal;)

I really like the Haitian food here. I would recommend it for affordable yet delicious Haitian meals. The ladies who work there are really approachable and friendly and patient with us. When I was there, I bumped into my friend, and they had to wait for us to order because my friend was just chatting away, while my belly was rumbling for tasty food. Actually, I went with a former co-worker of mine who suggested it. I am so happy that she did. We agreed that the food was rich and just delicious and had humongous portions. The black bean sauce is separately contained in a plastic styrofoam cup, which was later poured on to my white rice, which was just absolutely delectable. I had the legume platter, which I split with my friends. It cost $ 7.50, so when we split it, it become $ 3.75. Not bad for a full plate of delicious home-cooked goodness. We also got fruit soda and champagne soda, which I later realized you have to give in the bottles so they can reuse them for later use. That I did not know but my friend let me know. I want to come back and try another platter of yummy food. The B44 at Nostrand & Rogers is nearby as well as the 2 train to Winthrop Avenue. I removed a star only, because I thought the atmosphere was a bit odd since there was this trash receptacle that was kind of in the doorway attracting critters of the winged kind which we had to fight off during the meal, but man I tell you it was worth the fight.
