Food is very good! Great burgers! The place is very nice, a bit noisy but after a while it is ok. I am allergic to gluten and they were able to prepare a burger with gluten free bun at an additional cost! C’mon guys, that is not necessary! Overall good experience! One last detail, no credit cards but it has an ATM.

Fun atmosphere and great beer selection.

Enjoyed the visit to Boulder! The staff was as awesome as the beer on tap. Definitely need to remember to bring your cash…

The wings and beer are great and based on those alone they would get at least one more star. But, this last time we went we decided to get other items on the menu and we weren’t super impressed. I got the pollo asada burrito and it didn’t have much flavor to it. Hubby got the steak sandwich and the meat was chewy.

I’ve been coming here for years, and there’s some things I can always count on:

* I can taste a new beer before making the huge commitment to an entire pint
* Awesome beer
* I never get tired of the food because it’s so tasty
They can always count on the fact that I’ll live there for Stout Month! It’s in February. If you even think you might like Stouts, do yourself a favor give it a try.
You can always count on the fact that they take cash and local checks (with ID).

Great service. Deciding to try someplace new with our two kids (boys ages 15 and 12) we came here just after 6 PM on a Friday night knowing that we might have a wait. Not only did they let us order drinks and fries while we waited, they set up a makeshift table for us to put everything on. The food was very good. We all chose burgers, two beef and two bison. They came cooked correctly per our orders. Servings are a great size ¹⁄₃ pound, not too big, but ample. I do have to agree with the review that stated that very few people want tortilla chips with a burger and everyone around us had upgraded to fries. The prices are already very reasonable, so it isn’t a big deal to upgrade. The beers were good, too!

Always a favourite. This place is a staple of Boulder. Great beer and great pub fare. The nachos are a classic and their fries are incredible. Their salads are also great, and you can’t really go wrong with the burgers.
On the days they serve Fish & Chips, do it. I wish it were a regular thing.
There isn’t a lot I don’t like on their menu. I want the hummus to be good, but it just isn’t my thing. I wish they had something a little more authentic and less sweet. The specials always sound amazing (kudos to whoever write their copy), but always fall short of what I expect from the description.
Overall, wonderful place with extraordinary staff and great atmosphere. I remember during the economic tank, this place was still slammed with customers. I’m glad the management takes feedback and makes changes the best they can. Even though they’re still a cash-​only business, the ATM fees went way down. It’s a small price to pay for them to do well and keep food costs down for us.

I loved Southern Sun! I came here after a long morning hike to get some food and drainks, and that was a great decision. First, the beer. My group thought we would try the beer flight, and were pleasantly surprised when our beer came out in these very tall glasses — definitely a lot more beer than we thought we were going to get, but no complaints! And the food here — wow, so delicious! I can definitely vouch for their burgers (decently large portion, delicious, juicy) and fries (on the thicker-​cut side, perfectly done). However, I hear that their brunch is also awesome; I just wasn’t in the mood for brunch food but when I am (and when I’m back in Boulder) I will for sure check it out! FYI they only take cash. I didn’t know this when I got here, but hopefully you will now after reading this review!

Just to set the stage, I have high standards for food and service. That comes from working in the service industry for soooo long. Basically I don’t dole out stars frivolously, so if you have average tastes take my comments with a grain of salt. This place is just okay. The best thing it has going for it is the location, if you sit on the patio the flat irons are right in your face and it’s beautiful, don’t look east it’s just Broadway and it’s moderately less inspiring. It’s a brewery but nothing on the beer list makes me be like ooooooh I wanna try that! That’s a problem, and they specifically state that all their beer is unfiltered, except hey assholes unfiltered beer upsets my stomach so yeah I’m not super impressed by that:/ I’m ranting so here’s the quick summary, waitress was decent, kinda slow, kinda nonchalant about life, food was eh, hummus app was not worth the price, mush Swiss burg was delicious, steak sandwich was really tastey, loved the thin bread it came on. The fries (which you have to upgrade to) are NOT good, unless you love greasy soggy fries, I myself prefer greasy crispy fries but there was only like three in the whole pile. Most meals come with chips. Not delicious potato chips but boring and bland tortilla chips, HEY SOUTHERN SUN NO ONE WANTS TORTILLA CHIPS WITH A BURGER! It’s not rocket science. Get a clue.
Oh and they don’t take credit cards, hey Southern Sun, if it’s such a big deal to you just increase your prices by 2%, or whatever they wanna charge you, consider it a convenience fee so I don’t have to go to the fucking ATM, that’s so 1990, gross:))

Bottomless Mimosa’s for only $ 8?! Such a thing doesn’t even exist in my home state of Utah, so partaking in this deal was a no brainer. It was a nice touch for one of the servers to bring us a free basket of fries. They were very tasty and went well with my bacon cheeseburger. The ambiance here is very casual and so spacious that they’ve even got a patio.

I have probably been to Mountain/​Southern Sun +400 times.
I brought my kids in when they were babies and now they are in college.
It has the same feel and great food and beer as it did 20 years ago (except they used to have focaccia pizza which I wish they would bring back.)
Nothing better then hanging out at Southern Sun, relaxing with some good food and great beer.
Stout month is awesome. So is the junk burger. Fries are a must.

My Lyft driver took me to the wrong bar and I’m glad he did. This place is great — cheap (good!) beer at happy hour, super reasonable prices for food and a very friendly staff.
I love how many vegetarian options there are on the menu too. I will be back.

My boyfriend and I came into Southern Sun for the first time tonight after just moving to the area recently and trying out establishments near by. We walked into the pub interested in a round or two of beers and ended up ordering food from their very appealing menu.
After taking our orders and bringing us our first and second rounds of beers (DELICIOUS HOUSE BEERS MAY I ADD), the manager Drew approached us with some news that our ticket was misplaced in the kitchen tonight and that our wait for our meals was unacceptable. Before we could even open our mouths to reassure him that we were in no way upset or even slightly disgruntled, he told us our entire meal was on them tonight (100% of the bill).
The staff was so attentive and fantastic that we did not even notice that our meals had taken a little extra time to prepare. Drew and his staff here at Southern Sun will make your time there a breeze; if you are looking for a laid back and very friendly establishment to go to, even in the busiest times of the year here in Boulder, this is your place.

We thought the food was SO good. Sadly this place didn’t seem very easy for people visiting from out town.
Our waitress didn’t come over for a good 30 minutes after we were done with our round of beers.
We got the attention of another waitress finally and asked to pay and for our check to be split. She said that they could not split our check because they were short staffed and it would «take too long.» This is after waiting 30 minutes with no food or drinks to get a staff members attention
Oh, and we don’t take cards at all. A simple sign saying «cash only» in the restaurant somewhere or even on the menu would be courteous I think. We didn’t see this anywhere and had to pay to use their ATM.

We have been coming to Southern Sun since they opened and are frequent visitors with nothing but good things to say.
Last night we stopped in for dinner and I ordered a burger that was basically completely raw. The server immediately took it back and made us a new one without question or attitude. The thing that was so impressive was that both managers on staff came over and apologized and asked us if there was anything they could do and they took the burger off the bill, they also brought us some fries while we waited. It was exceptional service.
Never under estimate the power of doing the right thing. Customers for life!

On my last day in Boulder, I decided to visit since it was close to me. There was no wait for a table so I was happy about that. My mother in law and I shared the junk burger with fries — sautéed mushrooms, bacon, garlic aioli. all the ingredients I love and it was so damn good.
The fries were in the basket in at least a teaspoon of oil. It wasn’t pretty, but I managed to wipe the oil off to eat the fries.
They don’t take credit cards, cash only. The place is chill and casual where you can have a beer and some good food.

My favorite place to come in Boulder for a drink or good pub food! The beer and food selection is good. Food is high quality for a pub/​brewery. The restaurant is spacious and great atmosphere to hang out with friends. Just remember they only take cash. I like the grilled cheese, the burrito, and the raspberry wheat beer!

I enjoy the beer they make and the food they serve. The staff at all of there locations have always been nice and on point. They make the food at all there locations from scratch and have some of the best french fries in Colorado. You have to get some! The smothered burrito is delicious, and I lived in NM for a year, and I don’t just throw that kind of compliment out! Maybe it is a little more westernized, but still it is a thing of glory. I have not had any dishes I have not enjoyed. My go to is the buffalo chicken sandwich. A friend did get the tempah Reban in like 2009, and he was not a fan, but why would a meat eater eat tempah in the first place? All of there restaurants are cash only, so you better be holding!

Great beer selection. Wonderful food. Great service too.
Good for groups, and with kids.
Reservations are not necessary, but a good idea.
If the weather is nice, try the patio.

The place is a must-​go for its brews. You can see the beer brewing equipment from the front windows. The place does not accept credit cards. There is a bank and an atm within walking distance.
We came on a Sunday evening without reservation. For this, we waited some serious time for a table. There is an option to seat yourself outside with a community-​esque sitting area.
The inside is very open!
When we got in, the service was available and brought us our drinks on a good timeframe with us. I drank the XXX Pale Ale which I recommend. I had Tom’s Blackened Chicken Quesadilla. The guacamole and the fresh diced jalapeños paired well with it. It was the right size and I was able to take some home. Lunch!
My friend got a burrito which completely finished. So it must have been good enough.
