Just got finished having dinner at this establishment. I was pleasantly surprised they had one of my fav beers sexual chocolate. The wings and fries were top notch.

The atmosphere alone is worth stopping in for! Unilocaled it on the way by in I-40 You owe it to yourself to enjoy the journey and stop on here. Wednesday night live music topped it all off.

Pretty short menu, but their(boneless) fried chicken was really impressive. I would never normally order friend chicken, but it was recommended by both a friend and our waitress. They were right. It’s moist and the honey drizzle was the cherry on top. I am picky about mac and cheese usually and theirs was very good. It was the perfect amount of cheese and sauce to noodle ratio. Finally, this establishment made me realize I liked kale. I got it thinking I would try and balance out ordering fried chicken and gag it down, and actually ended up asking how they cooked it and bought kale to cook similarly the following week. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because service was slow. Luckily we were not in a hurry. I will be back.

We really enjoyed this pitstop off I-40. A friend from Asheville highly recommended this spot for lunch and it didn’t disappoint! It wasn’t an extensive menu but there were enough choices to make your decision tough. We split the chicken plate and my goodness was it memorable. I didn’t know fried chicken could taste so good. It was light, flakey, really juicy, and drizzled with honey. We subbed for the mac n cheese and it may be atop my list of mac n cheeses! It was that good. The kale was surprisingly good, especially since I didn’t think I’d like kale. It was in a flavorful broth. We’ll be back sometime on our way out to or back from Asheville — worth the stop.

Great restaurant in a charming little town. I was camping out not too far from here and decided to give this place a go because every photo of food in their Unilocal gallery looked amazing. I was here on a wednesday night and they had live music going. I wasn’t sure what kind of music it was, so i had to ask the waitress, like a doof… Blue grass jam btw. The atmosphere was laid back and the majority of the people here looked like«locals», but i didnt get the weird looks i had been getting elsewhere on my trip up the east. The beer boiled sausage was on special that night, so i went with that. I missed the part where it was served in a bun, but it was still really awesome. I also had the mac and cheese which had abnormally large macs and decent cheese along with a bowl of chili. Everything i was served exceeded my expectations. Even my pop was exceptionally crisp. I really wish i could try some of their other entrees, but realistically i’ll probably never pass by this sweet little town ever again ;[. Good service, good eats, cool atmosphere — keep it up, trailhead.

We have tried this place aeveral times We have a house here and come here to the town regularly. We waited ½ hour for our food… at 1 pm on a Monday. Always slow service. Very frustrating. And the tv’s. What is with the 32″.we would come for football and sit at the bar. but we go to the Black Mountain Ale house instead. Get your act together

Great vibe, clean, pleasant staff, and really good food. Also has a good selection of beer. Only downside was how long it took to get said beer and food. In their defense they were dealing with increased traffic from a street festival. We will be coming back here.

Two different locals recommended the Trail Head so my wife and I thought we’d give it a go. We are glad we did. Super friendly staff greeted and seated us at a nice table overlooking the main drag through downtown Black Mountain. The waitress was super nice. Started with the mussels in coconut milk– so yummy. I had the beer battered fried chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and steamed kale and a local ale. You know that point when there’s still incredibly yummy food on your plate but you’re full? Yeah, that was my dilemma: I would like to keep eating but if I did I was approaching full-on gluttony. I did have to finish the kale, though, as this was the first time in my life I was genuinely excited about kale. They steam it with soy sauce, honey and ginger and it’s crazy good. My wife had the fish and chips. Equally yummy. We would definitely come back to the Trail Head.

Fish tacos and burgers are good. Sauces are great and homemade(tartar and salad dressings). Kids meals were great. Amy was a fantastic server who made good recommendations. Beer selection was good as well. Overall it was a great experience.

Stopped for a late lunch on a weekday when very few customers were there. Eating at the bar, service wasn’t extraordinary, but the food and beer were excellent. I had the black bottom sandwich and fries. It’s an improvement on the portobello mushroom sandwich. The homemade fries were great. It was hard to choose a beer from their microbrew selection, but the Bison honey basil draft was one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted. Will definitely return when I visit Black Mountain again.

After a long road trip in from Chicago, we were looking for some real food to take back to our place. Got a burger and some wings, solid. Fries were still crispy and good. We’ll be back to enjoy some brews for sure.

Tacos with the option for tempeh– perfect. Everyone else got a burger, or the veggie version of a burger… I’m pretty glad I stuck with my guns, because these were delicious. They have half pints for anyone who doesn’t feel like committing to a whole glass, which was also pretty rad. The poor server started off on alone, but held her own pretty well. Great place.

I always recommend Trailhead to customers at my workplace looking for a close by, yummy restaurant. They were one of my first dining experiences here in Black Mountain, it is a place you need to eat at when you visit. Weekends they almost always have live music in the evenings. The atmosphere and setting is really nice and warm. They have a nice tap rotation, too, with a great selection of local beer. I’ve gotten tacos, burgers, and salads here before, always delicious and fresh! A Black Mountain must.

My husband and I were planning our trip to Black Mountain for our first anniversary when we checked Unilocal for restaurants. Trail head received good reviews so we put it on our list of places to try. We were first pleasantly surprised to see all the SEC football games on when we walked in and by the selection of delicious«bar» food. Y’all this isn’t just bar food. After eating a large lunch we wanted smaller portions to share. We ordered the onion rings and the nachos with chili and bacon off the late night menu. The onion rings were so crispy and the homemade ranch went perfect with them. The nachos had great flavor. They forgot our bacon but the server brought it out and it really brought a whole new flavor profile so be sure to get bacon with the nachos! If I had to say something it would be that the servers seemed a little overbooked and it took a couple minutes to find our server but when she was at the table she was wonderful and witty.

We were driving through Black Mountain recently, looking for a cozy place to stop and have dinner. What originally drew us to this restaurant was the live music coming from the back patio. The tunes were quite enjoyable, so we thought«if the food matches the music, we’re in good hands.» Bri ordered the«Below the Sea Level» mussels and the«Flat Rock» salad. I took my chances with the ½ pound«Trail Blazer» burger. As a whole, the burger was very juicy even though the meat was a tad under-seasoned. Because my hunger outweighed the burger’s flaws, I still managed to enjoy every bite. Bri said the coconut cream in her mussels was so good that these were quite possibly the best she’d ever had. That’s high praise coming from a mussel-lover. After $ 30 and a few quick snapshots of the charismatic band, we were on our merry way back to our hotel in Asheville. This was a good time with good food in a friendly WNC restaurant.
