Great range of beers. Discovered White Zombie here for the first time. Sat at bar, excellent service and the specials for lunch were great. It was slow so the bar staff let us taste several other things on the menu. Been back several times since.

I can’t speak for the food yet, but I really like Black Mountain Ale House. I’ve been here a few times during my semi-frequent trips to WNC and have had nothing but good experiences. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful, making suggestions on what beers they think you’d enjoy, and offering tastes just so you’re getting exactly what you want. They have a variety of local beers on tap and their prices are on point. The food menu looks awesome so I’m bummed I never got a chance to try anything, but definitely will on m next visit!

Good burgers, salads, and beer selection. Great bloody mary’s. Good service. Fun sitting outside in warm weather. They have about 9 – 10 TVs that draw a crowd during football season, but don’t expect to enjoy your home-state Panthers there. The large TV in a nice section to itself plays any game but the Panthers. Panthers will be on 1 – 2 smaller TVs in main area but no sound is allowed. Even a large Panthers crowd can’t get the good TV.

The food here is inconsistent as is the service. Sometimes it takes forever to get your food, even when it’s not crowded. My kids like the chicken wings and the foosball table so we come here occassionally. There are so many outstanding places to eat in this area, this one is just ok. Fine if you want lunch and a beer, but don’t be in a hurry!

Small local sports bar feel, Great atmosphere. Good service, staff was knowledge. Food was honestly just, eh… okay if you ask me. I wasn’t that impressed.

It’s not often that you can go to a bar and get great food, but the food at the Ale House is fantastic. Only complaint was the speed of service. My wife and I went in twice on a busy weekend and were blown away by the food.

Having just moved into Black Mountain, exhausted and very hungry, I ventured out to do some grocery shopping. BUT I was so hungry I decided to go to my favorite lunch spot, The Veranda. However it was packed on this rainy afternoon and a huge crowd waiting to be seated. So I went next door to the Ale House to see what that was like. They had a sandwich board out front with tomato bisque and grilled cheese sandwich, perfect comfort food for a tired and hungry girl. I sat down and the waitress came over to take my order. I asked for water and wanted to know what kind of cheese was on the grilled cheese… she had to go ask the cook and came back with swiss and cheddar, both on sandwich, she left and never brought the water… I finally went up to the bar to ask for water and the hostess spotted me and I told her what I wanted… she brought it to me after several minutes and apologized. In a few minutes the hostess brought me the meal for $ 8. The bisque was in a small cup, very tasty. The sandwich was tasteless… the cheese was not ooey gooey but like rubber, I think it was that fake cheese slice they just threw on the bread. Whenever the waitress happened to be in the vicinity, she would ask if everything was okay, never making a special trip to check on me. I finished my food because I was so hungry and waited for a check… finally I got up and on the way out handed her 10 bucks and said it should cover my bill(I usually pay 20% tip for good service, more for excellent). Terrible service(although the hostess tried to make up for it) and the food was not good(soup was okay), it was a grilled cheese sandwich, how do you screw that up… for $ 8! There were only a handful of people in there… that should have been a clue right there! ‘will not be going back!

Great beer selection and quality pub food. The place is known for their wings and appetizers. We had some cheese sticks that were more like cheese logs — about the size of an egg roll! We usually sit at the bar where the staff is friendly and talkative, as are many of the customers. A pleasant place for a beer and some lunch or a snack. We haven’t had dinner there yet but plan to give it a try.

This place is awesome! Fantastic atmosphere. It is laid back, and a great place to watch a game. I had four types of wings first was the teriyaki it was good homemade sauce. Next was the dry rub wing it was really good! Had strong flavors, but it was not spicy. The other was a honey sriracha it was really sweet, and not hot at all! The last one was my favorite it was the buffalo! The wing was crunchy and juicy like all of them. It had a good amount of spice on it. They were served with home made ranch and blue cheese dipping sauces.

Fish and chips were crisp and tasty, moist and flaky. Just like fish and chips should be. Fries were fresh cut. Hubby had the crab and bacon mac n’cheese. Good coating of cheese on well cooked pasta. Had a decent helping if bacon and the blue crab was consistency dispersed throughout the dish. Could only have been improved by an additional helping of crab meat. Good selection of local beers, as well. The back patio was enjoyable as well on a warm spring night.

Service was atrocious and unprofessional. Took one hour to get three sandwiches and we ended up leaving before the food arrived. Maybe it’s not their usual but I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Gee Wiz Wally your mom can’t make a sandwich this good!!! YESYESYES!!! OHHHHHMYYYYY this sandwich was so yummy: Ale House Club — pork loin, smoked turkey, applewood smoked bacon, pimento, swiss, lettuce, tomato, red onion The pimento cheese was the topper that put this over the top good! My mouth is actually watering as I write this review. PERFECTION people! I chose the MOUND of sweet potato fries with my dish couldn’t help myself I WASN’T taking any of this HOME! & Yes I had a AVL Brewing Ninja Porter while I was there… ITWASONTAP so I pretty much had to right! I will say this is a PUB not a restaurant as it is a little small but the wait staff and atmosphere is awesome and very southern charm small town charm. Live local music on many nights and they have a few outdoor tables for those perfect temp evenings or afternoons. Only complaint on this visit was a little warm due to both doors were open and a little confusing if you are not familiar with the place when you walk in. There are 2 entrances if you come from the backside of the restaurant(hint: you will walk DOWN a flight of stairs) you then need to proceed to the other side for a hostess to seat you. Probably not the best place for a large group.

Yes and yes! It seemed to be be a main local hangout. Many local brews and the food was amazing. Huge portions, l. It was the true meaning of pub food. If you are lucky they will have live music.

Stopped for a drink and dinner. Dude had some beer which he enjoyed, and wings ordered hot– but seemed to «just have a little extra Frank’s hot sauce instead of an alternative to actually make it hotter». I can’t vouch for those– he seemed to enjoy them regardless. I ended up placing an order for the cornbread, which while a bit on the dry side, was still pretty darn tootin. I ate all of it, and left a happy camper. We’ll go again, of course, and I have my fingers crossed that I can raise the review to a 5 star once we taste test more.

We had a delicious lunch here in Black Mountain. We started with cornbread that was delicious! I had the special«Fried Grouper Sandwich» and my friend had the Blue Crab Quesadilla. Both were cooked just right, and generous amounts. Only downfall of the place – they were out of cider and the Bloody Mary had too much horseradish. Overall, it was a good lunch-food was delicious!

Food and service were great. Some prices are a bit out of whack(e.g. adding steak to your salad for an additional 10 bucks is a bit steep). That said, I will come back, just being a bit more aware of pricing of certain items.

Stopped in on a rainy Sunday, and I’m glad I did. Tucked down a set of stairs off of Cherry St. this place is worth searching for. We ordered the adult grilled cheese and their oven roasted wings and weren’t disappointed. The wings were honey & sriracha and delicious. Our waiter knew his beer, from recommending the local offering to telling me where to but it, he had the knowledge.

I had dinner tonight at a club meeting(French Broad Mensa) at Black Mountain Ale House and was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. First, the service was very friendly and perky, even though this was a group of around 15 or 16, most of which wanted individual checks, which must be a pain for the waitstaff to handle, especially given that by the time we left at around 8 pm the place was full. Second, the food seemed a step up from standard pub food. I had a burger with fries, but those around me had salmon and fish and chips and other entrees, and I didn’t hear any complaints. My 8 oz. cheeseburger wasn’t world-class, but it was prepared exactly to order, with first-rate fries. I’d rate it among the better burgers in the Asheville area, especially given the price($ 8 plus 75 cents for cheese). I also had a Jack on the rocks($ 7) and a Pisgah ale(a bargain at $ 3). Altogether, my bill came to around $ 20 with tax, not including my usual generous tip. The Ale House in the heart of Black Mountain on Cherry Street, but because the main entrance is just a doorway leading down some steep steps, it’s easy to miss.(It’s right next door to the well-known Verandah restaurant.) There’s sufficient street parking on Cherry Street and nearby, especially in the evening. The basement atmosphere, with brick walls, spells rathskeller pub, but it fits this place. When in Black Mountain, I’d go back for a burger and local beer.
