Very cute and well-kept in a great location. I got the hummus and Indian summer salad. Hummus was great but Indian Summer salad was far too sweet, and my boyfriend agreed. He got the Cuban sandwich and loved it. Not vegan friendly.

Arrived in downtown Black Mountain, parking within a few feet of the front door of this place. The people were all waiting out side to get in. We opted to go browsing the town in hopes this line would go away. After an hour we came back and there were only a few in line so we decided to wait. Within 10 minutes we were in and sitting outside on the back deck. It appeared to be a mix of locals and tourists but the word was out that this place was delicious. Our waitress was prompt and gave us the«today’s menu» and then said some of the specials were already sold out. Wow! We decided to order 2 different sandwiches and split them I ordered the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread with cranberry jam, lettuce, tomato… it was amazing. G ordered the Cuban sandwich, standard Cuban sandwich but on some sort of artisan roll, smashed and crunchified. That thing was the bomb. For dessert, we ordered a piece of Coconut Cake. This cake was just the right size for two people to share. The layers had some sort creaming filling which for the life of me I could not distinguish the taste. The waitress said it was a special cream filling they make. Such a great change from that overbearing lemon filling some people put between the layers. The frosting was light and the coconut was tender. The cake was so light and fluffy. All of the components to this cake worked so well together. If your in town and want to go to this place, either go early or go later but not too late. They close at 3PM.

This place is amazing! We researched places to stop for lunch on our trip. We wanted something just off the highway but not fast food. This was our find and boy, were we glad to eat here! We had a short wait for our table. They will wait to seat you until your whole party has arrived. Once seated, our waitress quickly came by to take our drink order. We looked through the menu and the daily specials which include several different soups. Most of our group ordered a sandwich and soup. The Charleston She Crab soup was tasty and had good flavor, including Old Bay seasoning. I ordered the Hungarian Mushroom soup which was amazing. Creamy, lots of mushrooms and flavorful. Another person had the Lima Bean and Ham soup which was equally delicious. Our range of sandwiches varied from tuna salad to their pimiento cheese to their Italian BST. Others had the beef dip with au jus and the Cranberry Turkey. One person had the special, the Hawaiian Pretzel roll sandwich. We were all pleased with our choices and the quality of food was outstanding. We didn’t even think to take pictures to share. We were too busy eating! Definitely worth a stop on any road trips!

My wife and I were extremely lucky to have come across this wonderful café in Black Mountain today. We knew the moment that we walked in that we were going to love this place. It only got better following being greeted by the friendly and professional staff. The food cannot be beat. I only wish we had a place of this quality near our home in FL. This place is a 5 star keeper!

One of our favorite lunch spots in the Asheville area. Some of the best homemade soups I’ve ever had. Make sure you try a sample or two of the daily special soups when you go in(seriously, I could eat them all, except the potato which is just a personal preference.) Also, the sandwiches are very good. I had the special of the day the firecracker(turkey and pepper jack melted on ciabatta with caramelized red onions, bacon, and special sauce), and it was sinfully delicious. The chicken salad and chipotle turkey wrap were all awesome as well. Oh and forget chips, you need to try the Indian Summer salad.

Delish café fare! Homemade soups and creative sandwiches and salads. Super fresh bread with charming décor. The staff is friendly and prompt and went above expectations providing a much needed bib for the 2yr old and were extra attentive to our needs. A Black Mountain must!

LOVE this place! Whenever I visit the area — this is a definite stop. The homemade pimento(pimiento?) cheese sandwich is GREAT! The Indian Summer Salad — always. You can’t go wrong in this place. I’ve been going to Black Mountain for fifty years, and the area just keeps getting better. They have invested quite a bit in their downtown. For us regular Montreat people, this restaurant is a must.

Loved it! My party fully enjoyed their meals here today. We had a Cuban, French dip and a club. The sandwiches were outstanding. The Cuban, let me say that I’m from Miami area and I eat Cubans almost every week. It was excellent, pressed and filled with finely sliced meat and cheese and tangy crunchy pickles. Served with a perfect mojo sauce and chips. The club was served on toasted sourdough and stuffed with thick bacon slices and piles of turkey and ham. Delish! The French dip was served on a lovely roll and the sauce wasn’t overly salty. We also had the soup which was creamy potato, very very good. I would return here just for more of the flavored teas. Everything from the staff to the décor and food was great.

Stop what you’re doing, change your plans, rearrange the schedule, do whatever it takes to eat lunch here! Best soup, sandwich, blue plate special joint on the planet. The crab soup was so good we ordered another cup. The chilled strawberry soup was extremely refreshing. I got the muffaletta sandwich and my wife got the roast beef panini with au jus and horseradish mayo. Everything was EXCELLENTEXCELLENTEXCELLENT. Another nice touch is the outdoor dog friendly deck. One local told us they eat here 4 times a week and his advice was whatever menu item sounds delicious, get it because it will be. Also, every 5 minutes a local was hugging a waitress with smiles and laughter. My kinda place! And the people are SONICE! For my wife, who grew up in NJ, the Southern Hospitality here is nothing short of awesome. The sweet ending was the brownie with ice cream and caramel. Superb ending to a heavenly lunch. YOUMUSTGO!

Soups at the Veranda are really good. Not the same old stuff you get from other locations. The sandwiches are unique and excellent quality. It is a quaint place on Cherry Street among all of the shops in the area. The quality of food is exceptional. Owners actually worked in the kitchen the day we were there.

I do not mind the food here, though there is not much that could qualify as exceptional. I have been here a few times with my ladies book club. The workers are stingy, but if you happen to get good service: BEWARE. The owners do not allow workers to keep their tips.

Our first visit to Black Mountain and we were greeted with such warmth and excitement when the lovely staff saw our two pugs! We sat out on the porch in the back and were promptly brought our iced tea and a bowl of fresh water for the dogs. The Asian Chicken Salad Wrap was fresh and flavorful with moist chunks of chicken. The salad plate I ordered had hummus and pita points, mixed greens and marinated veggies. So delicious! Fantastic service and charming atmosphere.

Located in charming Black Mountain on Cherry Street, downtown. The place gets crowded fast for lunch, so try to get there early. They serve amazing sandwiches, deserts and soups. I opted for the tuna sandwich and the Hungarian soup. Super tasty. Highly recommend you visit it you’re in the area. Service also is outstanding.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday around 2 and this place was packed. I got the french dip and it was excellent. High quality roast beef with a delicious horseradish sauce. Came with slaw and chips. Also got a side salad that was fresh and delicious with beautiful dark greens. I had to wait a while and they threw in a cookie. That was delicious and homemade as well. Great place to grab a sandwich. The soup options looked great but they were out of the tomato feta basil by the time I got there. Will have to come earlier next time.

We were excited to find this cute spot in Black Mountain, but were disappointed with the service. We arrived around 1:30 and put our name down for a table. I then noticed that people who had just come in we’re being seated and I asked the greeter what happened. Our name had been crossed off the list, but we were never seated. Once seated, we were very enthusiastic about the amazing offerings, and got ourselves prepared for some delicious dining. I asked for a cup of one of the soups and she said don’t you know that we don’t have that one? Evidently, the kitchen staff did not let the greeter know every soup that was sold out. However, still ready for a good lunch, I ordered the 3 salad plate. The chicken salad was to die for!!! The pimento cheese was good, but overpowered by capers. The Greek salad was especially delicious as well. I was again disappointed by the service when our waitress asked us if we would be ordering anything else as we were barely through half of our meal. Definitely made me feel she was rushing us out. Anyway, this place has so much good going for it… cute items to buy, a diverse and healthy menu. However, poor service can negate all of those good things. The place was packed so I’m hoping this is not the norm. We will definitely go back for another try in hopes of getting better service!
