For being in the middle of no where in Colorado this place was quite fun. We enjoyed the dinner– food selection was pretty good. We went on the weekend and enjoyed the all you can eat crab legs. The wait staff was very friendly.

For being out in the middle of a landlocked state, you can’t go wrong with unlimited crab legs. I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason why we go to black hawk, let alone Calypso! But the true test was when we made the voyage with my in-laws, true Texans and buffet aficionados. The buffet is well stocked and maintained. It also has a variety of food that can’t be beat. They loved the layout compared to a few other casino buffets they’ve been to. Hubs and I love the free drinks.

Breakfast Buffet– This review is only for the $ 8.99 Breakfast as it’s the only time I have been. I’ve pretty much have eaten at all the breakfast buffets in Blackhawk and Central City. If you’re looking for convenience then I suppose it’s not too bad. They do have an omelette station. Thank God! Not much more than that though. What they have; Standard bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes, potatoes and biscuits and gravy. What they don’t have that the others hotels do; Eggs Bennie, Hollandaise sauce, deserts, Chicken fried steak, and most importantly a Mexican/Spanish station! Seriously you guys? So really, for $ 8.99 it’s just the basics at best. At 11am the«Brunch» starts and I’m sure they have more options at that time. Recommendations: If you feel like hopping in the car, try Seasons Buffet at The Lodge Casino for breakfast. Same price with all the things I mentioned they do not have here. Look them up on Unilocal for reviews. Probably the best!

The black guy cashier is really mean and not polite. Maybe he has a long day? Please fix it cause Tom our server is amazing I notice he really tired cause it a Friday night but he still working hard and attentive. shout out for Walter the cheft that cut the prime ribs he is funny and loves his job. It’s not bad, my husband liked it much better when you didn’t have to pay extra for the crab legs. If you are staying at the hotel and purchase the daily deal offered, where you can eat from the buffet all day, it’s definitely worth the price. The selection is an international smörgåsbord of yummy. The salad bar is stocked with your favorite toppings. Although I wish French dressing was one of the selections, there are 9 to choose from. Also an olive bar compliments the salad station, to give it that extra kicker. There is a phó station, carving station, seafood station, then the Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and American areas offer 4 – 6 selections from each cuisine. Last but not least let’s not forget the dessert station. It’s a little bit more than just a station, it’s an actual corner of the Buffet. There are more dessert selections than I can even list, almost. Everything from crème Brulé and tiramisu to soft serve ice cream with every topping imaginable, from five different cakes, and as many cookies selections to wonderful chocolate desserts.

It was our first time in Blackhawk and we wandered around making it obvious. We were told by a good friend that we had to dine at this buffet. Nicole coldly greeted us but gave us the information about drinks and the crab boil that we needed. We were sat and went to fill our plates. Tom left our drinks with a note with his name. He then came back to ask about seasoning for the crab. He filled my soda and left me extra napkins without bringing attention to the massive mess I was making with the crab. Thanks Tom! Even his expert and friendly service and the friendly cooks at the carving station, we could not excuse the food. The crab boil was delicious although a few of my mussels did not open during cooking. Everything else I tried was bland and mushy except the Phở. The phở was delicious although the small station was difficult to navigate and took a long time to get a bowl of soup. The ice cream machine was out of service, the deserts were dry and not yumm y at all. The polenta was awful and cheeseburger casserole is better left off the menu. The prime rib was mushy and other meat dishes were shoe leather, but even more inedible. All the veggies were soggy and mushy. The salad bar was small, but well stocked with delicious produce. I was a little bummed that there was not balsamic vinegar with the other gourmet oils and vinegars.

This buffet offers a ‘buffet pass’ deal where you can eat all day and until 10am the following day for $ 36. It is a great deal. You can go in and out as you please and can skip the line. Breakfast is pretty bad… everything was hard as a rock and the omelets were drenched in butter Lunch is decent. Dinner has the crab legs. Phở was extremely salty this time and not edible.

Say it with me, fans of a certain radio station: succulent. crab. legs. If you listen to a particular pair of DJs on your weekday commute, you frequently hear their commercials for Calypso’s Buffet at The Isle. And no matter what you were planning to cook for dinner, you start craving crab legs instead– at least that was my experience during my couple of years commuting in Denver. When I came back over the holidays, we spent an evening in Blackhawk with another couple, and apparently the advertisements worked, because we promptly headed to Calypso’s for dinner. First things first: the crab legs meet your expectations in their unlimitedness, but not so much in their succulence. They’re a little bit dry. However, you really can’t complain too much about unlimited crab legs for $ 25.99, can you? The rest of the buffet is pretty good as well. The salad bar is well-stocked, and they had plenty of non-seafood options(phở, carved roast beef, fried chicken, pasta, etc). The desserts were excellent– especially a mini strawberry shortcake one. Dinner came with two free beers(Coors Light) or two glasses of wine. Cost-wise, the wine’s a better deal, but decided to trust in the reliability of mediocre Coors Light instead of the mystery of house wine. The buffet set-up isn’t particularly convenient, but the line moves relatively quickly. We also went back for breakfast the next day and had a good experience; nothing was particularly outstanding, but they had all the standards and everything was good(bacon, eggs, smoked salmon, fruit, waffles, etc.). The schedule is a bit confusing about when breakfast ends and when brunch starts. Breakfast doesn’t offer any seafood or lunch items, but is also significantly cheaper, so plan accordingly. Not a gourmet experience, but it’s a fun, reasonably priced place to stop on a low-key weekend getaway.

This was my second time eating here. The first time I had a great experience as there was plenty of hot food and crab with a wide variety of entrees to choose from. My last visit was far from what I was expecting and on a much lower level than I was previously experienced. Overall the buffet appeared clean. I didn’t notice any dirty plates or napkins sitting around and the table wasn’t sticky(a big plus). The glaring difference between my first and second visit was the missing chunk of food which was there previously. One-third of the buffet was empty and when we asked what happened the host said it normally holds phở but is empty today. Instead of replacing it with something else there was nothing there. Also with the remaining small selection of food I don’t recall seeing it being switched out for anything fresh or hot either. The only food switched out regularly was the crab. I ate some sesame chicken, brisket, and fried chicken — all of which was cold and stale. I ended up just eating crab and salad all night which took away from this idea of ‘buffet’ since I had two real options. Had I know that certain days were more meager than others I wouldn’t have picked this buffet. If there is nothing else in the area to eat I would suggest coming here, otherwise same your money for a better buffet in the area.

I was a little disappointed with this place. I came here before on a previous trip with my friends and the food was great. Everything was fresh and they had a great selection in their food choices. I like their crab legs for sure. Grab them when they first come out though. Cold crab legs arent a great thing in my opinion. When I came here before, they served Phở and spring rolls. The food was fantastic. I think the quality changes based on the day of the week you go. However, this time I went the food was old, cold, and needed to be replaced. The salad bar had wilted spinach and lettuce. Their noodles were dry and unflavorful. Plus their crème brûlée was soft and watery. I was pretty disappointed from the first time I came here. This place wasnt worth the trip. I had such high hopes for this place, but it really let me down this time. No phở, no fresh food, and you could tell it was sitting out for quiet some time. I was afraid to eat some of the food because I didnt know how long it was sitting out for.

I work at a nursing home and the food here borders what I serve to the elderly folks at my job. I was here last Monday when they offered a special for a free buffet for a half hour of gambling. Who in their right mind ever says no to free food?! I wished I did, that’s for sure. The food was overly salty, the crab legs were room temp, the meat was over cooked and dry, and the lettuce for the salad bar was wilted! Service was slow and poor. The host team bickered in front of a line full of guests. All in all, I won’t be trying this buffet even if it was free.

If you love crab legs this place is definitely for you. Although be prepared for the line because everyone wants unlimited crab legs: p. I’d say farradays would be more of a private affair if that is what you’re going for. Calypso ’ just seems to have a bunch of loud patrons that don’t seem to respect the level of their voice and how far it can carry. Hostesses are great and the ‘waiters’ are very friendly as well as efficient.

Wide selection of food at the buffet inside Isle Casino. They have a carving station and a made to order pasta bar. For breakfast they have an omelet station as well. Crab leg buffets on the weekend. Promotions to get you comped or discounted meals with your players club card. Its a good place if you’re hungry.

Jesus H. Christ. This place is rancid. We took a trip to Blackhawk for some casino fun and played at the Isle casino. We earned enough points for a free buffet while we were there(you only need like 5 base points for this freebie. So we decided to go for the dinner option as their big advertisement was snow crab legs! Sounds great! The entrance itself is clean and we were seated promptly. At first glance, the selection seemed adequate. Different cultural varieties awaited and smells tempted us. First, we tried the seafood selections. These included boiled snow crab legs, boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, and hush puppy battered cod. The boiled crab legs were AWFUL. No flavor at all. The were easy to peel, but seriously, no salt, no nothing. They were cold as well. There was a vat of simulated melted butter next to them that had a slight corn on the cob taste to it for dipping. Same comments for the boiled shrimp… no seasoning at all. They did throw some fresh cut parsley on top of them, but in general they were flavorless, cold, and gummy. The fried shrimp were previously frozen and very plain. The ones you get from freezer, such as Mrs. Paul’s, are better. And the fried cod… omg. That really wasn’t fish at all. Maybe like a unicellular protein or something. There was a Chinese food section and the only thing we tried were the Asian chicken wings. The sauce on them was overly sweet, but had decent flavor. Generally, they weren’t worth wasting stomach space. The American food section had mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese. :(The fried chicken was very dry and flavorless. The breading was so plain! The mashed potatoes were actually alright. The macaroni and cheese had a slight bacon flavor to them and they too were ok. The prime rib was a shame. It was very tough and tasted oddly like… you guessed it… NOTHING! Again, no seasoning at all. It was also cold despite being under the orange glow of the infamous heat lamp. They had a fresh sushi station and that was ok as well with two different rolls: a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. We did try the Caesar salad. It was loaded with croutons and had too much dressing on it. The lettuce was warm, wilted, and turning brown. And now for the pièce de résistance…dessert. This honestly had the best visual appeal out of the entire meal. Looked promising and I figured that I could fill up on it. Wrong. The tiramisu was sweet and bitter at the same time. I’m not sure how they pulled that one off. They must have some sort of dessert wizard back in the kitchen. The crème brûlée was extremely gelatinous and had only a hint of expected flavor. There was a strawberry shortcake(well it was advertised as a strawberry shortcake) that was served in a cup and tasted terrible. It was sort of syrupy in nature. The apple cobbler was very pasty and soggy. It also did not have a good flavor. The soft serve ice cream was good though. Overall, this place stinks. There are many up and coming dining options in the Blackhawk area. I have heard good things about the other non-buffet options at the Isle there. My advice is that this buffet is not worth it. The price for dinner was $ 20(again, ours were free with the player’s cards), but I would never shell out that kind of cash for such a slop fest. Don’t waste your time.

Ugh. The only thing good here is the dessert. The crab legs taste old, prime rib dry, everything else is just mystery surprise. Even the salad sucks. Save your money and eat at the steak restaurant or the grill. Food is exceptional at either.

I checked out Calypso’s recently and it was pretty decent, although the buffets in Black Hawk are a bit downsized in selection and quality in comparison to those in Reno and Vegas. However, free is free, so no complaints here. As I’ve only checked out a couple of other eating spots in the area, I think that what makes this place are the crab legs — all of their advertising really doesn’t seem to talk about much else. They could definitely use a larger variety of meats. Try to go if you’ve got coupons, as I’m not sure it would be worth paying full price, but definitely worth a try.

J and I went for the crab legs with a coupon for a free buffet for myself and a guest from Alice 105.9 that I had gotten in an email for my birthday. I had to sign up for the Isle customer rewards card, but that did get me an additional $ 5 bill somehow from the Player’s Club attendant. The dinner buffet on Sunday for 2 would have been over $ 45, but we got it for the price of our tip. We did get there about 3:30pm when the buffet was supposed to open for dinner, and we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes to be seated – there is such a strange variety of people, including families with several kids, that seem to eat at this place. We waited in line again for the crab legs, but once we started to crack the crab, we were focused and fairly happy. The crab legs are pretty big and were warm, and our waitress was friendly, on top of our Diet Coke refills, and even fetched shell splitters that I had missed on the line. We ate our first plates of crab legs, got a second plate each along with a handful of shrimp, and felt pretty full. I didn’t want to just eat seafood; so, I did sample some of the desserts. I would say the chocolate caramel tartlet is way too rich; the toffee cheesecake and blueberry tartlet were okay. J did get a small vanilla soft serve cone. After the sweets, we had to head to the restrooms to wash off the crab juice – it does get messy! Then we lost some money at the slot machines. Eh, it was ok, but we might go to Water World instead when we are looking for another way to spend a summer weekend day.
