Sit at Eric’s table! Best friendliest server possibly ever! The food is good, possibly overpriced but the atmosphere is great!

I’ve given this place two chances and both were terrible. The food is terrible. Can’t say much more than that about the food. Probley a good place to drink. To many better Mexican restaurants around than to waste my money at superior grill.

We went on a Saturday night about 9pm. Most other diners were winding down their meals. I start with this to indicate there is no real reason for such poor service. To start off, our waiter Eric never came by to take drink order. Finally a manager came over to get our food and drink order. Our food came out super quick, but our waiter Eric was just awkward and rude to his co-workers. He literally yelled across the room trying to attract the attention of another staff member. Then he disappeared. The food was«meh.» No one ever came back to refill our drinks. We paid and moved up to the bar, where at least the bartenders were friendly and made a good margarita. I definitely won’t be in a hurry to return. I’ll just keep going to La Paz instead.

A little on the expensive side for Mexican, but great taste and flavor. Service was decent at best too, especially since it was pretty empty when I went. There’s other options for better Mexican in Birmingham. But if you’re on 280 and in a pinch, this place will do.

Very good Mexican food. Close to the Grandview Marriott. Will visit again on my next trip.

Spent over $ 100 for two VERY fishy fish tacos and chili powder cheese dip… Over $ 40 for a «top shelf» pitcher(HA! more sour mix than anything)…had to order 6 shots to make it «top shelf»! Won’t EVER stop there again… No wonder business has declined…

A lot of ups and downs while enjoying a birthday lunch. There was no wait time during a busy Saturday afternoon. The place was lively and smelled really good. My wife had been there before and she said she loved it so I was excited. Our waiter was good, not great. He wasn’t very knowledgeable about the menu and never brought us silverware. We also had to wait a long time for water, the chips and salsa were there rather quickly tho. He was a nice guy and wasn’t over bearing either. I ordered the lunch fajitas with black bean soup with a queso and guacamole appy. I thought the amount of guac was a joke for 2.95. It was good for about 10 total baby scoops between my wife, my 3 yr old, and myself. It was good, but small. Our food was hot and very good. We will be back again, but there are other places in town that we would go to before driving 280 to get there.

I ordered a drink here and they came out with the wrong one and it was completely melted. I had tasted it to make sure it was worth saying something and then told the waitress. She returned with a different drink because she said that the flavor I ordered never came completely frozen. She also said the manager told her because I had taken a sip they were only going to give me half a drink. So later my brother orders the same drink and it’s completely frozen. The food sucked too.

This place still remains one of my favorite restaurants –Mexican cuisine or otherwise — to go to. Great drinks –top shelf margarita is a must — and they have the best grilled chicken dishes around! Fajitas — chicken or steak — are the top of the list. Easily can handle big groups or small — and if alone, grab a seat at the bar — great staff to serve you!

Great atmosphere and service was excellent. With a group of 13 and seated really quickly. I had the Rio Grande combination. Plenty of food and great portions. Excellent flavor.

If I could give them zero stars out of 5 I would. Especially the waitress Megan C. After three years of working there, she doesn’t realize that when people sit and order only drinks they are there for happy hour? Then she tried to get an attitude about the tip she received from me. And told us she assumed we knew you had to be seated at the bar and patio to receive happy hour discounts when she handed us the bill. I regret not speaking to management I was trying to be in the holiday spirit and she was killing my vibes. After many years of never having any issues at this restaurant, this night has ruined it for me.

I used to love this place. Now the prices have sky rocketed. Though the food is very good I can’t compensate paying $ 14 for lunch(no lunch menu prices).

A lunch favorite of my office. We’ll go here when we can afford to take a longer lunch. The cheese dip is great. My favorite is the Crazy Javier lunch special. Steak dipped in a lemon butter dipping sauce. The servers are nice and always make sure our drinks are full. Only downsides are that there isn’t much parking at the location, leading people to park on the streets sometimes, and the fact that it can be a little pricey. Despite this, we always enjoy ourselves here, and I’m sure we’ll be back!

Been going to this place for 17 years. Sad to see it’s declined… and become more expensive with smaller portions. Vegetables with the fajitas are always served raw unless you ask them to really cook them. Even then, they don’t cook them much. The last few times we’ve ordered the combination enchiladas which are never hot. The cheese enchilada was actually cold and unmelted in the middle. Service is always mediocre and we end up waiting quite a while just to get the ticket. Pros: excellent chips and salsa… SO good. Their cheese dip is the best I’ve had anywhere, and I’ve eaten LOTS of Texmex. Fresh flour tortillas are delicious and their chicken tortilla soup is awesome! The Crazy Javier(skirt steak) at lunch is outstanding. Overall, the problem with this place is inconsistency. You never know how the food or service is going to be.

Pricey but solid, never a bland moment at Superior Grill. It is my wife’s favorite here in Birmingham, and while I would put two or three others ahead myself, I still love it. The crazy javier is my go-to, it has a butter sauce that makes it, and the burritos are excellent, the atmosphere is often of drunken revelry, which I enjoy. Parking is problematic on Friday and Saturday nights. Enjoy!

I LOVE Superior Grill. The queso is DELICIOUS. Really, all the food is so so good! It is a bit pricy, so if you’re on a date, or taking the family out, I would share! They have great drink specials and bands playing every weekend! Great atmosphere and staff!

I really hate to give superior grill two stars, but after our experience this evening, I do not think I can go too much higher. First I will start off by saying that I was always a huge fan of superior grill. I raved about their chips, salsa, queso, and homemade tortillas all the time. I had a craving this evening, so we decided to go. We were seated at a booth in the back and greeted fairly promptly. All seemed well until our server took our drink order and then decided to have a conversation with a fellow coworker who was sitting across from us. We also ordered queso, which he conveniently forgot. When he brought our drinks back, we ordered because we always get the same thing– steak fajitas. We waited a while for our queso, and when it didn’t arrive, my husband went and asked our server where it was. He then replied, «do you want a small?» Really? We had ordered it ten minutes ago. Our server then brought the queso back and claimed he would return to refill my husbands tea, which he never did. We ended up asking another employee for drink refills and more chips. When we finally received our food, which was at least 35 – 40 minutes after ordering, it looked good. We asked for extra tortillas and an additional side of garlic butter sauce. We have always done this because we split the fajitas and the butter sauce is just plain delicious. We each ate a little bit and then we asked for the check. I think by this pint the excessive wait times and running out of drinks, chips, salsa, and not being brought our queso until we got up and asked the server for it was enough. Our server brought us the check and failed to mention they charge for extra tortillas and the ramekin of garlic butter sauce we were brought. When I asked him when they started charging for tortillas and the garlic sauce, he said«oh about four months ago. I’ve only been here about four months, but I think it’s ridiculous too.» He also said they recently changed kitchen manager and he wants to charge for everything, so they can’t get anything from the kitchen without ringing it in. It was just a blame game with him. We then paid our check and asked for a to go sweet tea because it was $ 2.95 and refilled one time(not by our server). I mean really! When the server brought the sweet tea back, he literally reached all the way across my husband, about knocking him over to pick up the signed copy of the check. If that is not the rudest thing I have seen in a long time, I don’t know what is! It’s one thing if a guest hands you the check, but don’t be disrespectful and launch yourself across the table to pick up the check. I thought he was about lose his balance he reached so far. This was by far the worst experience we have had at superior grill. I will tell you though, they do have delicious chips, salsa, queso, and homemade tortillas. The fajitas were ok this time. I just can’t say $ 22.00 fajitas that were overcooked are great. The service has gone way down hill and the prices are extremely excessive. It’s really disappointing because I really loved this place. My husband told me he will just get the chips and queso for me to go when I want it ;). I think we’re better off. It’s just ridiculous what restaurants will do these days to make a few extra dollars. You already charge Triple the price of your average Mexican restaurant, why not start charging for chips and salsa?

I enjoyed the prompt service and the food was blah! I was not a fan of the waiter who persistently interrupted our lunch. ALSO, We were offended that he would tell an inappropriate joke during our meal. Who does that?!? I will not be back anytime soon!

Superior Grill has probably the tackiest building design in all of Alabama I’ve ever seen. Therefore, it is literally impossible to miss this restaurant on Hwy 280 as its neon glowing exterior resembles a ritzy, flashy Vegas casino that you might find ten miles away from the Strip. I love it. Superior Grill also has superior portions. At first I thought $ 12 – 13 was too much for a to-go order of a ground beef taco salad but then the waitress brought out – I kid you not – a catering tray. Please refer to my posted images on this Unilocal page to see the monstrosity. There was more salad in it than anything but good gracious, this shell was enormous! The amount of chips they gave was more than generous. Why would I never need tortilla chips ever again? I have enough to last me til cinco de mayo. They weren’t that good though and they kept breaking even though there wouldn’t be much salsa on them. At least the salsa was fresh!
