Steak was delicious. Service was very friendly & attentive. Nice view at sunset from our table. The décor/theme is tired & definitely needs updating. Steak knives were dull, bamboo chairs need to be replaced. The steak alone isn’t going to keep people coming to Barstow, unless the décor is updated.

Eight months after our first time here, on our way from a trip to see the Super Bloom in Death Valley. We stopped after a long day on the road. And this place did not disappoint. I read my last review and still agree with it wholeheartedly. I had the ribsteak covered in mushroom and onions, and it was delicious. The only issue I had with it was my wife ordered a prime rib, and that was even better. Lucky for me the portion was big enough that she didn’t finish hers so I got to do cleanup duty. My daughter ordered the kids meal with shrimp and they do not skimp. The shrimp are monsters and lucky for me she didn’t finish hers either. Seriously if you’re on the road rolling through Barstow and it’s worth your effort to get off at dusty road and drive a few miles toward old Highway 58 and try this place out. Until we meet again Idle Spurs.

Our server, Ashley, was amazing. She was very personable and made the dining experience great. The food was equally great. I suggest the prime rib. It was extremely flavorful and tender.

This restaurant is awesome. When we walked through the door the hostess greeted us and sat us at a vet nice table. I love the way the restaurant is set up and decorated. Very nice country western décor with a splash of old California. We had steaks that were cooked a perfect medium, fresh vegetables that had been sautéed zucchini and yellow squash seasoned lightly, I had the garlic mash and it was very good. We had a fried zucchini appetizer and I also had a pomegranate margarita, I recommend highly. If you are in Barstow or passing through stop here. Ask for Ashley she is precious!!! i was having problems with my voice and she brought me hot water with honey and lemon. I love this place!

Enjoyed a nice piece of meat, nice Old West ambiance, this is a jewel in a Barstow town that is overrun with fast food.

Arrived at night very pleasing clean on the outside and very rustic western themed inside. It was very cozy and warm inside, greeted with a smile and we got seated within seconds. Bar was to the right and dining area was to the left. We got seated and were given a plate of raw veggies(jicama, cauliflower, carrots, bell peppers) that were drizzled with some type of vinaigrette and sugar very tasty and out of the box for some but was good nonetheless less. We were asked for drinks of any kind. I got a Guinness blonde and was asked if I wanted a chilled glass — I said sure .they came back with a washed wet glass not chilled. Ok strike 1 but not that big of a deal. We then ordered for the kids first as they were starving. Kids got a grilled cheese with mongo steak fries(more like a whole potato cut into 4’s) they were thick! Our other offspring got the kids shrimp and fries… reasonably priced $ 6.50 for the shrimp and $ 3.75 or something like that for the grilled cheese. Then it was our turn wife got London broil well done with the mushrooms(fresh, not canned) caramelized with red onion ibthink it was hard to tell because the red wine they sauteed with darkened the shrooms and onions. I got the the rib steak well done. these cuts are USDA western grain fed cattle brought to us by the local Morgan meat company of which I’ll definitely look into later to see if I can buy cuts direct. Soup and salad came aoup was clam chowder it wasn’t hot but was lukewarm but very tasty I must admit. The salad that my wife got came with shredded hard boiled egg –interesting concept but definitely something to employ at home now shredder was used for grating parmesan cheese. We got our cheese bread and it was dry and a little hard — strike 2, next time we will order a fresh batch and under cook it. Meat came and veggies were perfect al dente and meat was well done to perfection. Spices were good and felt good about the meal. Pricing for meat was more than most restaurants but you get what you pay for and definitely will be coming back. Our waitress Amalia was a gem and her laughing sidekick was a gas which made our experience feel like I was at the pirates of the Caribbean. All in all this place is a winner and Barstow earned its place on the map on 11-17-2015

Idle Spurs is the best Barstow has to offer and it would stand on its own and larger towns, also. When you sit down you get a little veggie plate to munch on. The drinks are good. The steaks and prime rib are delicious.

Let’s say it could be worse. The start was a vegetable plate, chunks of veggies some pickled, some with Italian dressing. The carrots were three inches across, and tough. I’ve never had a carrot that required a knife before. My wife got a vodka and Sprite. The waitress said for $ 2 more she could a double. Where we come from a double is served in a tall glass. Here it’s in a highball, the regular drink was maybe 6 ounces with ice. And that Sprite was soda. For $ 6, it should fill a normal glass and have right mixer. But the salad was made in front of you. Tongs dropped lettuce into bowl, one piece of beet was added, two croutons, and they put hard boiled egg in a cheese grater to add to the salad. I went for chicken noodle soup, which was best part of the whole meal. Big thick noodles, good chicken stock, couple normal carrot slices, and at least three pieces of chicken. Now it’s a steakhouse. So we went crazy here… prime Rib. The Prime Rib was blandly seasoned on the outside. The«au jus» tasted like beef bullion. The steak was about medium rare as ordered. There were ribbon of fat that went sideways through the steak. It’s taste was bland. Either not aged well or cook way too fast. Again who heard of a steak place having good Prime Rib. The baked potatoes were as hard as the wife’s head. The waitress cut them with two forks and put a spoon of butter, sour cream, and fresh cut chives in them. The dinner came with cheese garlic bread. It’s cold, and American powdered cheese lightly dusted on it. The service was decent. So I’m generous with the two stars, otherwise it would be one and a half stars.

By far the best place to eat in the high desert! You can tell that the meat is perfect because they own Morgan Meats(best meat anywhere) Make the time to go there. They are open at 4 pm on Sunday’s and closed Mondays.(My only complaint is we seem to get company when they are closed… sigh)

Giving Idle Spurs four stars because it was a heck of a lot better than the fast food options in Barstow on the 15. Amalia, our waitress, deserves 5 stars for being extremely friendly and for providing excellent customer service. Even though we dined an hour before closing, she was very up beat and genuine. Couldn’t have asked for better service. Had the pork chops, which came with soup or salad, a slice of garlic bread, apple sauce, sautéed yellow zucchini squash, and choice of potato/rice. The loaded baked potato is prepared table side. I would definitely come back to Idle Spurs, which was only about a 10 minute drive from the 15. Neat old pictures and artifacts/antiques decorate the lounge and restaurant.

The food here was thoroughly mediocre. Our steaks were good, but nothing we can’t do ourselves at home. The garlic mashed potatoes were bland and the sautéed veggies were just ok. The garlic bread everyone mentions had no garlic flavor, even my 12 year old commented on it. Plus we had to ask twice to get some. My cream of potato soup was gelatinous, not creamy. Flavor was ok, a bit strong on the smokey bacon taste. We won’t be back, just not worth it, sorry.

Traveling through California with a companion who doesn’t care for Mexican food can make dining out somewhat of a challenge. Luckily, the Idle Spurs steakhouse was there for us during our stay in Barstow. The décor has an old-timey feel to it, with lots of wagon wheels and cowboy memorabilia around the spacious dining area. The ambience is pleasant and quiet — tables are spaced well apart so that you can have a nice conversation. The wait staff was superb. I ordered the NY strip medium rare, which was done perfectly. It came with a baked potato and«seasonal vegetables», which turned out to be a mix of summer squash, carrots, and jicama — really tasty. We indulged in the fruit cobbler and ice cream after dinner, and that was just about as good as my grandma used to make. All in all, a really nice end to a long day of driving in the desert heat. Highly recommended for other weary travelers.

Driving back from a weekend in Vegas is often stressful because of the damn traffic on the 15. It took us over 8 hrs to make it to Barstowand by then I was hungry and thoroughly annoyed. My girlfriend wanted to make dinner at home but I talked her out of it, reasoning that we’d be too tired to want to cook. She found this place on Unilocal.Everything else locally was either Mexican food or fast food. No to fast food! I ordered the Karl Strause Red Trolley Ale and she ordered a classic martini… bad mistake. She ended up trading it in for a Johnny Walker black label whiskey. Instead of a bread basket we were given a vegetable plate. That was nice because we prefer Veges over bread and butter any time. I got the New Orleans pork ribs and she got the filet mignon. They both came with soup or salad. The sides are rice, vegetables or mashed spuds. The soup was New England clam chowder. We didn’t care for the soup(we had better) but the meat was pretty good. Turns out this restaurant has been around for over 50 years and it is a local favorite. A Nice touch. I just love a home town success story.

Our 16th anniversary dinner was awesome. I had prime rib which was delicious and my husband had the bone in ribeye both of us thought it couldn’t get any better. Our server Denise was exceptional, she seen to our every need. For dessert we had the 6 layer chocolate cake warmed with vanilla ice cream it was very decadent. The atmosphere is very fun with all the trees and plants, we sat under a leafy tree.

Simple, all american, steakhouse. Taste like home. No frills, but no disappointments either. The table cloths and cloth napkins can use some upgrading since they have oil stains on them, but then maybe they are trying for the vintage feel. The service was fantastic! That was my favorite part! Very attentive and friendly. Cute décor and something to look at everywhere your eye turns. The food was ok and the steak tasted no different than what I can make at home. Which, Im not a great chef. My husband enjoyed the prime rib but it wouldnt bring us back. Definitely worth a visit since there arent many restaurants in Barstow.
