When en route from San Diego to Vegas, my young son needed a restroom, so we pulled into Platas. The young, friendly gal who worked there brought us a sample plate with potato, refried beans, pork and beef– with a fork for each of the five of us!!! She mentioned the amazing green Verde sauce they add to all their dishes… Everything was delicious. We ordered the pork quesadillas for the road-they were huge and very tasty! Definitely recommend this place!

Missed the Chipotle off ramp and thought we would try something new. Real authentic Mexican food, interesting atmosphere and the food and service was great. Good alternative to the off the freeway options on the way to Vegas.

Wow — found this place by chance, and it was our lucky day! Who would have thought we’d find authentic Mexican food in the desert! In business since 1984, this is the real deal! Delicious carnitas and carne asada, with free chips and choice of 3 salsas when you dine in. Full Mexican menu, including tacos, enchiladas and menudo. Free pour soda, horchata and everything made from scratch. They also make incredible flour tortillas on site. A little off the beaten track, but gps will get you there!

You wouldn’t know this place existed unless you’re a local. The food is good. There’s plenty of different types of salsa and chips. I had the carne asada burrito. The meat was flavorful and nicely charred. I do wish that the all meat burrito had a little more meat.

The carnitas and Chile Verde were outrageous. The fresh made tortillas were fantastic. The price is reasonable. A meal at a fast food burger place for my family is $ 40. Our meal at Platas was $ 35 and we had a burrito left over to take on the road. Definitely a good stop on the way back from Vegas.

On our way home from Vegas we were craving Mexican food(like real Mexican food– not Chipotle), so we stopped here. It’s in a neighborhood type area, and when we walked in it was obvious it’s a local favorite. It was pretty good! They have lots of different combo options, free chips and salsa, and the best part for me was they sell fresh, home-made tortillas. The tortillas are delicious. We tried the crispy taco, enchilada, rice & bean combo. It was good, and was only about $ 7 with a drink. I’d come back for sure.

Don’t be fooled by the sight of the place, the food is delicious. While it is definitely a little«dingy» on the interior it wasn’t dirty. Floors and tables were clean, their«A» health rating was posted right by the cashier. Free chips and salsa if you eat in there. Chips were homemade. All three salsas were tasty, but the chunkier one was the most flavorful. It’s pretty spicy with big jalapeño chunks, so beware if that’s not your thing. I had a potato, bean, and meat(carnitas) burrito. So delicious. The meat was tender, the beans were flavorful, and the potatoes add a delicious texture variable to the whole thing. Pro tip: add cheese. Yum. Way better than stopping at some fast food place if you are passing through.

Usually there pretty good but the last 2 times I went it was horrible I ordered a special and they had no idea what it was and the price was off then the chicken taco was over boiled no flavor chicken meat that was cold and looked like cat food the enchilada was sweet for some reason it was odd and unpleasant then I got asada fries I ordered with no sour cream and no guacamole they gave me it with both I took it back all they did was scrape it off and put more cheese ontop of the left over guacamole… I couldn’t eat it I’m allergic I told them that

Holy cow! Like your mama said… Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. The area isn’t so nice. The building isn’t so pretty. But the people working there were very friendly and welcoming. And the food was fantastic. If you are into dives and anything that is not a chain, go here. You won’t be disappointed.

Whenever driving through Barstow, I love to stop at Plata’s for a pork, potato, and cheese burrito. I go to this location when I want to sit and eat because the more convenient location on Armory is only take out. I have never been disappointed in my food. The tortillas are fresh, the pork tender and favorful, the potatoes and cheese perfect. I usually get it medium, because their hot can be really spicy. I do stay away from the soda fountain at this location though… and not just because it’s Pepsi. Last time I was there it tasted dirty. So I just bring a drink with me since I’m paranoid and they don’t seem to mind.

If you don’t know about this place you should, It’s in Barstow, yes Barstow. I first learned about this place from a friend how knew someone who lived in Barstow. This place is a gem for Mexican food if your ever in Barstow. They have multiple locations but I enjoy the one on imperial because it has ample seating while the other one on Amory has limited and or no seating. I always get the burritos, pork, potatoes, and cheese, hot, soooo good. I Dream of this burrito.
Sometimes I want to go there even if I’m not heading to California but I’ve actually never done that. The food is always hot and fresh and their hot sauce is great make sure you get it. the only bad thing is the drinks not sure about the flavor of them did not taste to good and I’m not a fan of Pepsi anyway

I am a native of Barstow and been eating here as long as I remember. Everything on the menu is great. I recommend the potato and cheese burrito, but my new favorite is the chili relleno and rice burrito.

YUM. What else can I say. This location of Platas is THE best. My co-workers and I mostly head here for lunch. Prices are great and the food is even better. The staff are super friendly. There are free refills on drinks and they even have a chip & salsa bar(free).

All foodies traveling to or from Las Vegas, don’t be afraid to get off the highway and take the short drive to Plata’s. Ignore the seemingly sketchy neighborhood and yellow block building and order a plate of their authentic carnitas. The carnitas are a bit crispy on the edges, tender and juicy on the inside, carnitas paradise. They are served with a medium chili sauce and traditional salad garnish of pico de gallo, lettuce and avocado. The plate is completed with rice and beans that are well above average. The salsas are tasty and the chips and tortillas are homemade. Outstanding! The only thing that would have made this meal any better would have been a side of raw or pickled onions which I will order the next time I am there. I almost forgot, A+ ice tea, a must when driving through the desert. Enjoy
