Hands down best burgers & cheesesteaks in town. Everything on their menu is amazing, no really, its fu$k1n amazing. Not to mention local produce, homemade desserts, soups, vegetarian and health allergy options. Every now and then they have specials like a pulled pork green chili sandwich which is also really good. Also, they have a food truck, kinda cool, said they’ll come to your event, office, basically anywhere with a crowd. No doubt one of the best places in Austin, TX.

We love Wholly Cow! Fresh delicious sandwiches, fries, AND cane sugar soda fountain! We probably eat here at least once a week. The burgers, are good, chicken in paradise is bomb, and the cheese steak will fill you up! Very friendly staff, clean, and casual dining,

Wholly Cow is the type of place that makes South Austin special! The place is unassuming… it looks like a convenience store. The food is incredible! On par with the BEST burgers in town, and without the ridiculous lines! The service… they treated me like a regular! They were nice, but not sappy or over the top. My new favorite place to grab a burger! Feel the love!

Bad management. Disrespectful to veterans. I hope the owners bring in someone who is more respectful or train the current one on how to treat people.

I have celiac disease, and after I explained my food allergies, they made me feel so comfortable. I’ve eaten here many times in the past few months, and have never gotten sick. Thank you guys!

Just went here for the second time and it is awesome! I’d say a meal is about $ 12 so that might seem like a bit considering their venue is pretty much a convenient store but don’t let that put you off. The Wholly Batman sandwich is pretty amazing especially with peppers and mushrooms. You definitely need to give it a try!

This place is definitely cool hole in a wall place to eat. The grass fed beef was really good! The price for grass fed beef was reasonable. Staff is cool and friendly in an Austin weird way. LOL I had to go with the Wholly Cow Philly Trashy! It made me full and to the point where I became worthless at work today. I am so so sleepy from the great food here. It’s also a mini convenience store. So many options for drinks to include alcohol! Yeah buddy! Unfortunately no alcohol for me because I was working today. There were no lines when we came and it was pretty quiet place to eat. A lot of seating available on the outside and somewhat limited seating on the inside.

One of the most underrated food havens in town, if you ask me. The burgers here sneak up on you and grab hold with their extreme tastiness. The meat here seems to be higher quality than most other burgers I’ve tried, which should be expected given their moniker and the promise of grass-fed beef. With that higher quality comes a burger with bigger, more refined flavor. The patty alone would make me ecstatic, but I added mushrooms and grilled onions so that it became an extra-gourmet experience. Plus it’s served on a King’s Hawaiian sweet roll, which always hits the spot.(If you’re looking to be healthier, get the Paleo burger instead and enjoy your meat fix with two big mushrooms for buns.) The whole thing was basically an unstoppable force. This is a burger that doesn’t get talked about enough. Forget the overhyped reputation that Hopdoddy has gathered over the years, and forget the easy drive-thrus at P. Terry’s and In-N-Out, which don’t come close to this. You’ll have a way better time here. The restaurant is part of a niche convenience store(aptly named the Zen Food Mart, because you’ll find peace and quiet here) that includes among its inventory a bunch of random foodstuffs that I haven’t found in similar stores, and which fascinated me. Take a look through the shelves after you place your burger order at the counter; you’re guaranteed to be tempted into an impulse buy. When your order’s ready, grab a seat at one of the picnic tables located right inside the store, and dig in. FYI, there are more than just burgers on the menu, and based on two other visits it’s almost certain that everything else is just as outstanding. The cheesesteak is fantastic. The cheese is sharp and melted all the way through, although it overpowers the taste of the meat a little. The grilled chicken sandwich is also a winner, because it’s served with a spectacular pesto mayo that infuses itself into every other ingredient. The chicken is as good as the beef. And the most exciting surprise? The cheesecake. Offered by the slice in the store’s refrigerated section, it’s a giant block of snow-white, rich, creamy, smooth cheesecake with the ideal level of sweetness and a delectable, crumbly crust that might be made with graham cracker. A fitting way to end a meal at a place that bases its quality food on the all-holy cow. It might be the best cheesecake I’ve ever had, and that includes the famous Junior’s in NYC. If I live here long enough, I will try almost everything on their menu at some point. The reuben, the veggie sandwiches, the breakfasts. It all sounds irresistible. One downside is that everything I’ve eaten here is smaller than I’d like and doesn’t fill me up. However, the burger especially is still damn near perfect. They’re playing with house money.

No burger in town holds a candle to this burger. I’m telling you. I’ve been here so many times, the kitchen lady and I are pals. She knows my order. Mean burger. Juicy, grass fed scrumptious amazing make my a$$ fat delicious makes you want more burger. They do paleo, my husband had it once it had the portobelos for buns he said it was amazing tooooo. And I always ask for a side of veggies. They walk over to their little grocery store area, pick out the squash or zucchini and then cook em right in front of you. Not very often do you see a burger stand inside of a convenient store. But seriously if you haven’t tried it you should because you’re missing out.

When I say that this is a unique eating experience, I mean it. You are eating in a corner store. You sit right by a cooler of drinks and a rows of snack foods. But you know what, this is easily one of the best burgers I have ever had in Austin. You can tell that everything is fresh. The grass fed beef used to make the burger, amazing!!! The staff is amazingly friendly too! They even know my order when I walk in. It is easy to miss when driving but definitely be sure to drop in for an amazing burger at a reasonable price.

I dropped by for a cheeseburger and fries this morning, and a cheesesteak sandwich to go. The review is based on the cheese burger and fries only as my cheesesteak was«stolen» by another mouth before I could get a bite. The cheeseburger was all the way and was simple, but really good. The cost is a tad high, but you pay for quality and this was quite good. The fries were like how i like them, which is not over crispy. I like to taste the potato. The Lady of the house does not like how I like my fries as she prefers hers much more cooked. I usually lose on this battle except when they are made at home and mine are taken out early. The fries are only $ 1.00 and were not too salty, like many other places do so you will by another drink or two. The people working there were quite friendly and the place was clean. I roamed through the aisles while my order was cooking. You can buy one of their shirts and if you do, each time you return, wearing the shirt, you get free fries. This is a damn good deal if you live in the area. All in all a good experience, eating lunch early in the morning. Their pleasant attitude alone makes it worth revisiting. Well done!

This place is also a convenience store so look hard to find it. I pulled in around lunchtime and had to park behind the building. Inside there was a line but did not take long to order. I got a single with cheese and bacon. As a locally owned store you can find unique drink items from sodas, tea, lemonade and alcoholic drinks. If you buy an alcoholic drink like beer or wine then you cannot open it there to drink it, for you need to take it home with you. I guess they do not have a certain type of liquor license. I was there also to stock up on Texas mADE flavored lemonade. I got addicted to it and seems like this is the only place to buy it near me. I also got a bottled water to eat with my burger. We sit down and wait a little while, and our food was delivered to us. As a single the burger is quite big and also ordered fries with cheese on it. The burger is delicious and something about makes it unique from the rest. The fries was good too. Great service, food, and selection of drinks makes this place very special!

I’m Paleo– so I expected this burger to taste like heaven on earth. TOOMUCHGREASE. OMG my burger was swimming in grease. Every time I bit into in I had to like run the grease out of it. I can’t even speak on the grass-fed beef cause it was just so much grease omg. Never again.

We tolerated the south Lamar traffic on a Saturday afternoon. Yep, it’s an old convenient store setting, but its all about the food, right? Two singles, a double and sweet potatoes fries. Verdict? Its all about the grass fed beef, which is definitely denser than most burgers that folks are accustomed to. The density(lower fat) has a distinct flavor, regular burger lovers may not quite prefer this taste. The bun’s sweetness, a King’s Hawaiian roll, really didn’t do it for us, even when one of us has a major sweet tooth. Sweet potato fries were hit and miss, some cooked well, others overcooked, but for a $ 1 with a burger, guess you get what you pay for. Being charged grilled onions when you could barely find them on the burger and definitely couldn’t taste them was a waste. Bottom line, we tried it, but that’s all the props I can give.

DELICIOUS and WHOLESOME! Are you Paleo? gluten-free? Low-carb? This place is perfect for you. I got the«Fitcross» burger: grassfed beef patty med-rare on a portabello mushroom bun with an egg. The menu says fried egg, but it’s more of a sunny side. Ask for over easy if you don’t like runny white. Had a side of steamed cauliflower doused with Chalupa hot sauce and my gf got Fitcross with pastured chicken instead of beef, side of sweet potato fries. Money! Staff is really friendly and helpful to first timers

Local. Grass-fed beef. Hardly any lines ever. Friendly people. What’s not to love?! I always get the Pure Single with American Cheese with added mushrooms and a side of the regular fries. I attribute my weight gain since moving to Austin because my apartment is right across the street. In fact, that was the deciding factor when I chose said apartment — Wholly Cow is A mere jay-walk away.

I’ve heard about this place for a while and finally got a chance to try it and it was great! I ordered the double cheese burger with fries and it came out about 5 min later. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked with thick pickle slices, the fries were fresh out of the fryer and the followup service was great too! The person at the register came out and checked on everyone’s food and asked if everything tasted great. Those kind of details go a long way, because it shows they take pride in the quality of their food and give me confidence on what’s going on behind the kitchen. Overall, i’ll be coming back and if you haven’t been here… you should definitely give it a try. It’s not life changing, but it’ll leave you satisfied if you’re ever craving a great tasting burger.

I see this place whenever I’m across the way at Torchy’s or Kerbey Lane. Finally got a chance to try it. It’s inside a convenience store. They have other sides options that was on the side and I didn’t see them :(so I missed out. I ordered the Wholly Cheesesteak Batman! and it was delicious. It was a bit … bland but they had siracha on the tables and that made it perfect. It was also very warm in there. I think they didn’t want to have the AC on very high because of the cooking area being open and it’s a big, old building. There’s about. 10 – 15 parking spots. I didn’t have any issues with parking when I went there for lunch.

Local. Grass fed. Paleo. Friendly. Cheap. Quick. All of these things in one place? Usually unheard of. Totally happens here. I LOVE that they do a portabello cap bun for paleo eaters– so much more of a meal than lettuce wraps! The Fit Cross(burger on portabello buns, with bacon) was less than a single patty burger would be at any burger joint around and was huge, delicious, and grass fed. Will be back x 1000.

So I wasn’t sure what to expect here and honestly I did not do research before going. I just knew there was this burger place down the street from work that I keep passing and needed to check out. So I finally pulled in on my lunch break and was pleasantly surprised with the result. I ended up getting the single cheeseburger. I was tempted by the reuben on the menu, but it seemed like the whole thing this place had going on was the burgers so I had to get one. I think I made the right decision to start off with. I also ordered a side of fries to go with my burger. Now what I was shocked to see was that this was actually a convenience store too! And they had a nice selection of craft beer and wines. There were also all kinds of specialty foods you could purchase and they had Dublin pure cane soda on the fountain. My food was ready in no time and I sat at one of the tables inside. I bit into my burger and was feeling it. It was seasoned well and delicious. On my next visit I will probably order the double cheese burger because I would have liked the patty to be a bit thicker but it by no means was super thin. When I first realized that everything was organic and grass fed I was actually a little concerned that it might be dry, but that was not the case. The fries looked like they were hand cut and fresh. There were great too! All in all I like it here and the prices were not too bad either. For my burger, fries and drink it was about $ 9 — not bad at all. I will definitely come back.
