I went to Janitizio yesterday and it was closed permanently.

Their Monster Burrito with Carne Guisada is AWESOME! The staff is generally nice and they are open to all hours of the night(like 3am on weekends :) I love Janitzio.

If you live on riverside this place is a must go. Their food is great and the waitstaff is nice. I go their often and will continue to do so.

This was my second dinner after sharing an order of El Regio chicken, so I had to wash all that down with some tacos of non-chicken meat. I ordered the barbacoa(which is cleverly disguised on the menu as BBQ), al pastor, and the carne asada. One tip here: if you are going to order 3 tacos, make them all barbacoa! The barbacoa here has the oh-so-great buttery tenderness that contains the fat that literally melts into your mouth. Great beefy flavor too. The carne asada was kind of like a traditional chewy fajita meat, and the al pastor was a bit ordinary. Overall, great barbacoa and cheap. 2 can dine for less than $ 10, easy. And it’s got that authentic Mexican feel, though that’s not too hard to find anywhere in Austin.

Trust fund babies? I’m personally more interested in my food than a hot waitress, anyway. I think ya’ll are being a little harsh about the prices. I mean how cheap do you want your food to be? At some point you will be eating McDonald’s quality ingredients. I had to make this point since they actually gave me 3 enchiladas with my plate. They were tasty along with the beans and I thought the rice was pretty good. My friend’s strawberry daiquiri was tasty and made with real strawberries, too. The salsa was good though I’m not aware that they give free refills. And yes the breakfast tacos are a great deal at 3 for $ 1.99. I just realized I actually went to the Riverside location, sorry.

Ate here for dinner tonight and it was just OK. The place looks pretty hole-in-the-wall from the outside, but inside it’s fine. There were two older guys hanging by the bar, one with a guitar and one with a piano accordian, which seemed like a good sign because everyone I’ve known who plays piano accordian appreciates good food. The chips were just OK, but the salsa was very good. Too liquidy for my tastes, but extremely hot with big chunks of serrano in it. They also have a ready supply of Tabasco sauce on tables, which is pretty rare among mex places in town and which I consider a major plus. I ordered the combo #2, which was a three taco plate — beef fajita, carne guisada and(I think) chicken fajita. The chicken taco was by far the best, it actually reminded me of the adobados chicken taco at Tacodeli if that’s not total blasphemy. The carne guisada was not very good — very little flavor, very little gravy, meat too tough. The beef fajita taco was decent. All of the tacos came out VERY hot, both contents and tortilla, which was good. I got a side tamale and it was really bad. Like one of the worst I’ve had. Extremely dry, very little flavor. At least it was big. The beans were fairly bland. The rice was decent, and had huge carrot chunks in it which were tasty. The beer was very cold, and they had a decent selection of domestic and Mexican beers. They also have an uncharacteristically large full bar for such a small restaurant. I noticed there is a Unilocal listing for a Janitzio near campus; not sure if they are connected but I assume so. The menu at this Janitzio looked very franchise-ish, very well-produced and mainstream. Overall, 3⁄5 and I doubt I’ll be back anytime soon as I am sure there are better neighborhood options in the same vein. This place wasn’t all that cheap either, at least for the neighborhood — my food came to about $ 10 for a three taco plate plus tamale. Also probably a better lunch place than dinner — they weren’t that busy over dinner primetime, but had lunch specials prominently displayed inside and out, including a $ 4.99 special which will probably appeal to someone. Final note — this place is definitely spelled«Janitzio», not«Janitizio». I took home a flyer with me.

We ate here last night and were very suprised by the food! The short version: go here for FANTASTIC barbacoa and salsa verde. We thought of going to El Regio’s on Riverside, saw this and decided to go here instead. Always up for trying something new. The interior of the restaurant is very lively, lots of yellows and reds. Don’t forget to take a peek at the glass counter where they’re selling perfume. Eternity For Men, anyone? We each got a margarita. They were only $ 4 each! However, by the end of the meal, my stomach really really sour, and I know it wasn’t the food. I do not recommend getting a margarita here. I was seriously hurting. However, the food was really good. As an appetizer, we got the ceviche. It was very fresh and just what we needed. It came with three slices of avocado on top, making me a happy camper. For the entrée, I got the combo #3, which gets you an enchilada, a tamale and a beef fajita, along with the usual rice, beans and salad. They ran out of tamales, so they substituted it with another enchilada. The enchilada was very cheesy and tasty and not too greasy. The beef fajita was pretty good: well-seasoned, but could have been a little less tough. My man got the combo #4, which is the barbacoa and pastor plate. The barbacoa was GREAT. Well-seasoned, tender and not tough at all. I kept reaching over to his side of the table and spearing little pieces for myself. Make sure to get a side of fried jalapenos. They’re grilled to death and kinda taste like okra. Also, try the salsa verde. It arrives at your table warm. Delicious! This place may be a little hard to find. Just go east on Riverside, just past the I-35. Turn into the plaza with El Regio’s. Directly behind El Regio’s is a seafood place, and directly behind that is Janitizio’s.
