If you like coffee with«coffee mate» and powdered eggs eaten with plastic forks this could be for you. Sorry for the sarcasm, but we walked a long way here after reading some good reviews and the breakfast was pathetic.

oh breakfast tacos, how you’ve spoiled me… 1. order at the counter. 2. order the breakfast taco platter which comes with hashbrowns. 3. Pay. 4. Tip. Don’t be that guy. 5. Fancy up your coffee. 6. Sit. 7. Then bring you your food. 8. Eat. 9. Enjoy. 10. Come back again. NOTE: Each taco comes with three ingredients. Pay the extra 50 cents per taco to be sure you get eggs, cheese THEN2 more ingredients. My favs included… Eggs & Cheese(duh) plus Chorizo & Black Beans Eggs & Cheese(duh again) plus Mushrooms & Spinach Everything comes with salsa :-)

The ladies and gentlemen of Carrobs saved me during SXSW! I can’t eat most of the food on 6th, so my friend checked her phone for a nearby veggie place and Carrobs popped up. Beacon of Light!!! The staff were always happy and cheerful even though they were running on no sleep and opened MUCH later than usual. The breakfast tacos were delicious and they accommodated my «special needs» diet without making fun of me. This review isn’t well written and I don’t care… just go support this place and be nice to the staff cause they supported me in my drunky hour of need.

Nice little hole in the wall! My husband and I both had the Cassandra Special. It was great! Definitely a place to come for a great biscuits and gravy. The bacon was so yummy!

Maybe it’s just because there aren’t a lot of breakfast joints around Houston, but I really enjoyed Carrob’s Café. Breakfast is apparently a new thing starting this month, but they do a good job! We were happy with everything we ordered, which was much more than we thought when we were looking over the menu. Our favorite was the Breakfast Club. It is a perfectly constructed breakfast sandwich. Great flavors and it all stayed together. It’s served with hashbrowns, which we didn’t try until the end, and disappointed to say I didn’t try them sooner! We also had an omelette with turkey sausage, jalapeño and onion. Very generous size and surprised to see the japaleños were fresh. Definitely worth a visit, though a little divey, so don’t go if you are trying to impress, unless food is all that matters!

I went with a friend to Carrobs on a Groupon. Had we not have the Groupon I would have been EXTREMELY upset. The food was not good. The porkchop I ordered was about 1 cm thick and dry. The mac and cheese tasted powdery. The salad was the best part… although it’s hard to mess that up. I wouldn’t go here even if the meal was free. The staff was nice and the place seemed clean but the food was no good.

I gave Carrobs 5 stars not because they offer complex extravagant dishes or a hip atmosphere, but because their food is consistently delicious and the service is great. This in my opinion is the best place for breakfast in dt Austin. You cannot beat their home style breakfast or price. I wish they served mimosas, but there are more important things– like their biscuits and gravy– buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy with a little Cajun kick. I love that it is tucked away and hardly ever crowded. We usually go at least once a month so the waitstaff knows us pretty well. This last time we went my boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, and said it was the best one he’d ever had. Their décor is dated, but after trying the food you won’t care what is on the walls. Carrobs Café is located between 6th and 7th on Sabine st. This place may not be as hip as the surrounding area restaurants, but it makes up for it in service and food. Everyone should give it a try!

Carrobs delivers breakfast for my team and I at least once a quarter. They are always on time and we have plenty of food. The pancakes are a little on the heavy side missing that light fluffy texture that I prefer, but the eggs, sausage and bacon are always delicious! We have also had their dinner, beef tips, rice, gravy, collard greens and corn bread! Oh my gosh that entire meal was delicious. They are very reasonably priced for a team of 10 people with healthy(greedy) appetites! Friendly service and most importantly dependable delivery!

Fantastic hidden little gem right off 6th Street. The place is tiny but it really feels like you’re eating in someone’s home. Even the food taste like home cooking. They’re only open for breakfast and lunch but they deliver on both. They serve breakfast all day and if you’re really hungry get the breakfast burger. 2 patties, cheese, veggies, and a fried egg. You’ll be full for 2 days if you finish it. Also worth trying is their biscuits and gravy. They do it right with big sausage chunks in the gravy. Steer clear of the chicken fried steak though, it’s more like chicken fried mystery meat. Service is great and the prices are super reasonable. Highly recommended overall.

The décor is really random here, and the location can be easily missed. They are tucked away in an «alley» across from Easy Tiger. If you like diner food, you have to try this place! The food is delicious and non pretentious — I mean, they serve your food on disposible plates and the utensils are plastic… but, it the food does feel like you are at an aunt’s house and she is in the back cooking for you! The biscuits and sausage gravy is amazing here! The ultimate breakfast burger is no joke. It’s basically a double cheese burger with a fried egg on top — but the burger doesn’t feel greasy… and for the price, you can’t really go wrong… I had the Cassandra Special, which comes with buiscuit and sausage gravy, 2 eggs any style, hashbrowns, and bacon or sausage… all for around $ 6-$ 7! The sausage gravy is usually poured on top of your order, so ask for it on the side if you don’t want this… The décor is dated, and the service isn’t the best here, but they certainly try!

Great staff! They are so friendly, attentive, and helpful. The breakfast is AMAZING. I ordered a sampler plate(#10) with eggs, hash browns, bacon, a biscuit, and sausage gravy. The biscuit was buttery and fluffy. The sausage gravy was LEGIT! BIG chunks of sausage in delicious, creamy white gravy. I am definitely getting the biscuits and gravy next time. My friend got the Ultimate Breakfast Burger. WOW! Double cheeseburger, bacon, ham, and a fried egg. It was ridiculous and yummy! This place isn’t anything fancy(plastic forks and plates), but this keeps the food cheap! If you are in the mood for a delicious breakfast, definitely check out Carrobs!

Really really friendly people, and good food for the price. If you’re staying at the Hilton on 4th St. and you’re looking for breakfast past 10a, this is a great place that’s within walking distance. We ordered pancakes, gravy and biscuits, and breakfast tacos. Very filling, and delicious! While we were dining, there was an acoustic guitar player that sang beautiful songs throughout our meal. Was a great addition to our delightful meal :)

Cute little place in walking distance from the Hilton on 4th st. I’m loving this place because of its location and how low key it is. Not as fancy as its sign leads you on to be but still you can get a good meal at a good price in the heart of Austin. I ordered the #10 Cassandra’s Special. It has eggs on top on hash browns covered in their delicious sausage gravy. Perfect brunch entrée for my post Austin weekend. Hash browns were perfect and eggs cooked just the way I like it. My only complaint was that the gravy was not hot, just luke warm. Overall this was delicious and so cheap! The morning we were there, there was a band playing gospel which was unexpected but pleasant. The service was spotty but I think the waitress was new. However the cook and manager(I think) came out to see how everything was. Def appreciate their attention. Food is served on everything disposable from plates to cups so don’t get turned off by that. I’ll def be coming back to try some other dishes and to see if the service is more put together.

While I definitely understand the mixed reviews, I have had great experiences here. I work down the street at 6th and Congress, so it’s nice to take a walk this way in the afternoon. So far, I have tried a variety of sandwiches, and I have been really pleased. They let you substitute sides, which is refreshing. Today, I tried the chicken and dumplings, and it was friggin’ amazing. So…yea, it’s all about expectations. Not the greatest downtown lunch spot, but Carrobs is a really nice change of pace. I will be coming back weekly.

WHAT? This place was a massive letdown. After seeing the initial Unilocal reviews I thought this was some undiscovered gem. Its undiscovered for a reason. I had a salad and, as my grandma used to say, my «gentleman friend» had a california club sandwhich. The salad was straight sysco food. crappy shredded cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, with BOTTLED ranch! GROSS. I stopped eating food like this when I could afford to pay for real food. The sandwhich was not any better. The guacamole that was supposed to be on it was not there and the cheese was barely a milk product. Really guys? More processed cheese? Awesome. If you are going to advertise your local-ness then at least have some quality ingredients.

I’m trying to catch my breath after finishing my lunch from Carrob’s. To look at me was to see only a flurry of glorious food, wild eyes and gnashing teeth. I think I may have just eaten the physical incarnation of a heart attack(the Breakfast Burger), but I find myself longing to do it all over again. After taking a couple weeks to digest, of course. Carrob’s is very low-key, very friendly, and pleasant for sitting a spell. The owner works in the kitchen, and personally handed over my food. That was the first thing that made me feel good. Then the aforementioned eating experience, which started out with paced, contemplative bites, and ended with a scene David Attenborough couldn’t calmly describe. Get there.

I picked up a Groupon-type-deal for this place I had never heard of. I saw they had black bean burgers on the menu, and I headed to Central Austin for lunch. I finally find Carrob’s Café, tucked behind sixth street, and walk in, right pass the dirty, smelly, homeless people. Like a lot of them. This place needs a serious makeover. It’s hidden, no real sign, and the inside is pretty sad. Don’t let that scare you off. This place is fucking great. Carrob’s has a big breakfast menu, and a plethora of sandwiches and burgers for lunch. There is a vegetarian section of the menu, but all items have cheese or mayo. I decide to order a black bean veggie burger, minus cheese and mayo. It had a crispy outside on the patty, and a soft and warm inside. The bread was great, the vegetables were crisp, and it was all around tasty deliciousness. The staff was so friendly, I want them as members of my family. Run to Carrob’s. Actually, Google-Map it, because if you run here, you will run passed it, since it is a very unnoticeable place.

I have discovered the secret of Carrob’s Café, and it is BREAKFAST! We loved everything we tried, and found the food delicious, the portions hearty, and the price low. Great combo. Add to that family-owned, great location, cool atmosphere, super friendly staff, and you have a winning combination. Let me first off recommend the breakfast tacos. They are HUGE, and mine was stuffed fully of eggs, tons of bacon, and melty cheese. And the tortilla was somehow crisped, and had a nice toasty flavor. Really great deal too, at 1.99. Second, the biscuits and gravy!!! They came already halved, and swimming in a pool of delicious, hearty, sausage-y gravy. I love a tasty gravy, not a bland, milky gravy. And this one really fit the bill. Really flavorful and meaty. Wonderful. Third, the pancakes! Crispy, fluffy, cooked just right, great flavor. BF also had scrambled eggs, and they were just fine. Cooked right, and he ate every bite. We went for Sunday brunch, and the place was not as full as it should have been. This must still be a well-kept secret. I hope that secret gets out, because I would sure like to enjoy those biscuits and gravy on a cold winter morning(if we ever get a cold morning again).

Yikes. I just got done eating government-funded cafeteria, elementary-school food all summer… and I actually paid to eat it again at Carrob’s. No bueno. After you get your food, you scrounge for tables arranged in an awkward fashion. Feels like Junior high all over again. Just weird and eerie. You walk in, and it reminds you of eating something at a ball park. The menu is very straightforward, every item advertised seems franchised, and everyone is sort of in a «I don’t care what I eat; I need to eat» state of mind. At first, the menu really excited me. Beef tips AND chicken and dumplings on a meat and 2 menu in the same day? That is heresy in the South! Absolutely amazing! Well… you soon realize that every special is offered every day. You know why? They probably use prepared food for just about every menu item. Chicken and dumplings: salty and processed tasting, with cubed chicken, much like something pre-cut. Mac and cheese and green beans: the Southern pasta dish was somewhat dry but tasty, but the green beans most definitely came right out of a can. Tomato soup: creamy, but processed tasting. VERY salty. Hash browns: dry and bland; definitely could have used the excess salt in the soup and poultry and carbs. Avoid Carrob’s. The food is reminiscent of your younger days. Not in a good way… but in an unhealthy and gross way.

I’ve lived and worked downtown for almost a year and had no idea this place even existed. I only found out about it because they ran a deal on the other day. So, I bought the deal and headed there for lunch with a coworker friend. I’m pretty sure eating lunch at this place could work as treatment for depression. The staff is so cheery and friendly that it’s pretty much impossible to stay in a bad mood for long here. Go ahead. Try it. I bet you’re smiling within a few minutes of walking through the door. And the food is no let-down either. Tons of great menu items to choose from, including cold sandwiches, melts, burgers, meatloaf, and breakfast all day. They even have a breakfast burger with fried egg, cheese, bacon, and ham in addition to the burger patty — basically the perfect fusion of breakfast and lunch! But I’m a big fan of good meatloaf, so I went with that, and my coworker got the turkey BLT. We were both very happy with our choices(although I think I won), and there was quite a bit of «Oh, you *must* try this!» on both sides of the table. They also have a great drink selection here, including a variety of hot and iced coffees, teas, and lattes, as well as flavored lemonades and an incredibly tasty little concoction they call a Pomegranate Refresher. Seriously, try one. It’s great. So… given the tasty food, friendly staff, and the fact that it’s walking distance from my office, I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be returning here often.
