I’m updating my check-in. I ordered the zilker burger and it was REALLY good. The fries are crispy and lightly salted, perfect for ketchup dipping! A little disappointed because came here looking for the unlimited mimosas but the waitress let us know that there was some law or what not that made them take that away :(we still go mimosas though and they were really good!

I went with a group of my friends to celebrate my brother’s birthday. The atmosphere was cool. We were seated upstairs on the patio where we had a great view of 6th street. I have to admit it was extremely entertaining people watching. We even had the opportunity to watch a blossoming girl fight, but unfortunately they went their separate ways and nothing too exciting happened. Our waitress worked hard walking up and down the stairs, and she did a great job. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap which was tasty. I would definitely come back again.

An easier place to like on Sixth St. Large space that doesn’t seem to be trying to hard like so many other bars on Sixth. Two levels and an elevated outdoor patio that has a New Orleans feel. B/W checkerboard floor on the lower level and wooden floor on the second. Though both floors include a straight bar on the east wall, the downstairs includes several lower dining tables. Second floor was mostly empty. Bar on the first floor is a great bar with decorative bar back. Great woodwork, mirrors, a cooler and bottle shelves. Wooden bar top with rail. Chairs include padded seat and wooden back support. Steel pipe for a footrest. The service is pretty good unless slammed and the food is average to slightly above average bar food. Personally I’ve had better chicken fried steak, but others enjoyed their sandwiches.

Visited 6th Street to hang out with friends on the 4th of July. We went in to grab a bite to eat(my boyfriend was the only hungry one). I think it’s safe to say that everything on 6th Street is at least good. How else would it still remain on such a hip strip? This place has that divey bar feel, as most places on 6th Street. It was around 2pm or so when we ventured in. It wasn’t busy. I decided on two appetizers to satisfy the crew while my boyfriend grabbed a burger. I was super stoked about the first appetizer: hummus with carrots, celery, cucumber and pita! The hummus tasted homemade. It was good! The second appetizer was spinach artichoke dip served with tortilla chips. This dish is served HOT! It was also good. The cheese on top was a little too thick for my taste but I can say that most folks are all about it. The service was mediocre. Our waiter was there to serve our drinks and bring our food out but he vanished for quite a while after that. Nothing too extraordinary about this place but the food is edible!

Solid service but the food was average to disappointing at best. We found this place as it was walking distance from our downtown Austin hotel. The reviews led us here in our quest for bottomless mimosas, but as of now that promotion has been discontinued due to a city ordinance. I got the buffalo blue cheese burger which sounded amazing on the menu(Buffalo wing sauce, bleu cheese and bacon) but was pretty flavorless and unexciting in execution. The service was good and the dining area was clean by 6th street standards, so it’s a solid 3 stars.

Why this place is so popular is beyond me. The chicken fried steak I was served was like old shoe leather. The beer I was given was mildly cold. I arrived here initiated and was disappointed… Most drunk people will race about Taco Bell! Seriously over hyped, I am leaving sad.

Stopped here for dinner on a Friday night. I had chicken strips with extremely garlic fries. The place had good service and the food tasted amazing! Ordered the Fried pickles as well and they were tasty. Would definitely try again!

There are some days when you just need a greasy meal. This was that greasy meal. We went to Old School Bar and Grill tonight for dinner. We got there around 5pm, so it was pretty empty. There are 2 levels for seating and we sat on the outdoor patio upstairs. The inside of the restaurant looks to me like any of those other bars on dirty 6th. The bathroom had graffiti on the walls, but I guess what do you expect from dirty 6th. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip, which was a good sized portion and came with plenty of tortilla chips. It was yummy. I ordered a Zilker burger which came with guacamole, bacon, mayo, and pepper jack cheese. Mmm it was tasty. The fries were pretty good too. Boyfriend had the chicken fingers. The breading was a little too crumbly for my taste. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere was eh.

My coworker and I escaped a meeting on Saturday afternoon and were starving. We wandered over to 6th street and went the wrong way from where we planned to go and ended up here instead. My friend had the mac-n-cheese wedge which was rich and ENORMOUS and yummy. I created my own veggie plate by ordering a caesar salad, mashed potatoes and asparagus. OMG did the caesar have a lot of garlic. I loved it but others might find it too much. The server was attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere was bright and open on a pretty Saturday, although still woody & pub-ish. There was a hockey game on so lots of folks were cheering, etc at that. No idea about the drinks but the food was solid, tasty and fast.

We had friends from out of town who wanted to meet up for Sunday brunch, and told us we had to pick a place that had both mimosas and Eggs Benedict. We knew Taverna had these items but had already taken them there once before, so my husband did some research online and found this spot. Their brunch menu is very small but it did have both things she was asking for. Plus it had a patio overlooking 6th street which you just can’t beat in terms of people watching. One thing we forgot though was the pecan street festival was going on, so we were surprised once we walked in to see the place so deserted. Little did we know we completely passed their chalkboard sign out front saying they would not be offering brunch that day. You would think with so much 6th street traffic they would bank on brunch crowds, but their loss I suppose. We had already ordered a round of mimosas before they told us so we agreed to finish them and then walk to Taverna as originally planned. Can’t win em’ all but their mimosas are good and cheap! I would have liked to try their bananas foster French toast but perhaps another time.

Yikes. Awful customer service, spoke to my dad is an incredibly condescending tone, refused to admit mistakes and food was only decent. Will not be returning, that’s for sure

I really liked this place. Brought the man here on Valentine’s day and was able to get an upstairs patio seat overlooking the intersection. I think there’s something neat about people watching on 6th street while you eat. The waitstaff is friendly, but not more than they have to be. They must get a lot of duds in here. The food was really good. We had Fried Pickles, Chicken Fried Chicken and the Club Sandwich. I would go here again if every downtown with a group. It’s plenty spacious to accommodate more than the usual crowd.

The burgers are amazing! The fresh-ground meat is fantastic and there are many burger choices. I had the Royale(Brie and roasted onion sauce) and it was so tasty. A friend got the quesadillas and said they were delicious as well. We were in a bit of a hurry during a conference lunch break and the staff here were great about getting us seated and served. We are already planning a dinner trip this week!

Great for a drink and dessert! Swung by for a work meeting– just drinks and dessert. We started out on their patio, which is very cool. The rain had us move indoors after a bit, which was just as nice. The outdoor area appears to be built as a music venue and I can see it would be a fun layout. There’s an obvious country vibe to the place, but I’ll forgive them that since it is Texas. :o) Service staff was super friendly and attentive. Glasses never went empty, our gal chatted with us a few times, and she checked on if there was anything else we’d like throughout. Comments on beers was positive and I liked the layered chocolate cake that I polished off over the course of our meeting. Good place to visit and have fun!

Great burger & fries. I don’t remember the name of the burger but it had a special cheese on it. Fries were amazing even though fries are not included in the burger. The fries were dusted with some flavoring or something but quality was great. Food came out smoking hot and they used fresh ingredients. Burger meat was cooked medium and was juicy and full of flavor. Service was fast and staff(Joey) was great. Atmosphere was kinda lame. I can see a theme coming out but records hanging from the ceiling was a bit tacky. Even though music maybe part of the theme they were going for… but records??? This place is more of a dive bar with a hit of down to earth rustic atmosphere. Keeping it simple is cool but drop the records. Price was reasonable and it definitely fit the food quality. I would recommend this place.

Stumbled upon this place on a recent trip to Austin. Our concierge at the hotel had pointed us in the direction of this place when looking for a decent lunch spot and had given us a coupon for free chips and salsa so we figured we’d give it a try. From the outside this place looks like a typical 6th Street bar in Austin, but the staff and food were amazing. We were seated pretty quickly and had wait staff get our drink and app order pretty much immediately. Their drink prices are phenomenal compared to usual big city prices for alcohol. The biggest surprise at this place was the food. The salsa that came with our chips and salsa was amazing. It was so flavorful and fresh and totally unexpected from a bar type place. The Southwest Wrap and fries that I ordered were amazing, also. Their fries have a special seasoning/coating on them that made them different from the rest. I’ll definitely be back to this place on my next visit to Austin!

I stumbled across this place on accident, looking for a preconcert meal, and wanted a relaxing place to kill some time before the show. The bar & grill is housed in the original Cotton Exchange Building built in 1874, now a historic landmark, and they have done well to maintain the historic ambiance of the building. The spacious airy downstairs was once home to bails of cotton, and is now the main dinning and bar area. But don’t stop here, if it is a nice out, head upstairs to grab a spot in there 1500 square foot shaded patio. The view of the city is great from here, provides opportunities for some great people watching, yet feels apart from everything and peaceful. The upstairs area is quiet large with a 2nd bar, and stage which weren’t being used during the early dinner hours. They serve all local draft beer, and some mixed drinks. Even though they mention wine, there is not a selection here, and the waitress steered me from what they did have. I ordered the a bun free Zilker Park Burger, and substituted the cheese with gorgonzola. For an extra price I had them add the freshly cut fries. I can see why everyone raves about their burgers, they live up to their hype. The meat was cooked to a juicy perfection, the bacon was thick and crispy, the cheese and fresh tasty avocado spread to top it off, all made for one memorable tasty burger. The fries were also crisp, yet soft on the inside, and served piping hot. You definitely leave with a belly full of food.
