A long time ago, J&S had the best NY Style Pizza in the area(mid-to-late 1990s). Unfortunately, while they may still have amongst the best in the area, that does not necessarily mean it is great pizza. It just means that it is seriously difficult to find really good NY Style Pizza in/near Apex, NC. We’ve been hearing lots of good things about J&S recently and we decided to give it another chance. Disappointingly, it was not excellent pizza. We ordered 2 large pies for delivery…1 plain cheese and then another with mushrooms and pepperoni. Around $ 34. Both pizzas were quite salty. The crust was a little weak in that it fell at the end when you tried to hold a slice. Aside from being salty, the taste was ok but nothing to write home about. Needless to say… we’re still searching for a great NY Style Pizza in/around Raleigh/Apex, NC.

Ok, so I was kind of skeptical about try my this place after seeing some bad reviews. For some reason the sign outside and name it reminds me of some bad pizza place. But this is actually a great Italian place to have more then pizza. I just had their meat Stromboli and damn was it good! Marinara sauce is good not great. It’s solid. I’ll be back for sure. I love the authentic Italians running the place too. I couldn’t understand what they guy was saying to me but I loved every second of it. Lol. They lose a a star because it’s basically $ 10 for a meat Stromboli. Buuuut, you won’t leave hungry.

We are really going to miss J&S pizza when they leave but fortunately that means moving near the Dunkin’ Donuts on Perry Road. I Think the pizza is very good

Just order a pie here., I must say, close to NY slice but not quite, crispy crust but sauce is too salty, try using fresh tomatoes and a dash of basil please. I would love to give this place a 2nd chance.

Several visits and always good pizza. Nice people own the place and are always there working. Garbage pizza is loaded with everything. Very good.

Ordered 2 pizzas for takeout on Monday night. They said 25 minutes and I showed up on time. Upon arrival, the pizzas had just been put in the oven. After 25 minutes of waiting in the restaurant, they were ready. Got home and opened the box to find doughy, undercooked pizza. Tasted horrible! This is my second time eating here and both times they are extremely slow despite a lack of business. The employees do not seem to care. Would not recommend. Try Namoli’s in Apex instead.

I’m not sure what restaurant the other reviewers are eating at, but if there was an option for zero stars, this hole in the wall dump would get it. I came in on a Friday afternoon at approximately 1:30PM because I had a meeting at 2PM and needed something quick to take out. I wanted to try it because it wasn’t a chain and small places are usually pretty decent, family owned, etc. It is very small inside and most of the cafeteria style booths were full of guys — all seeming to enjoy their lunch. I went to look in the glass case on the counter and there were a few hours-old looking slices and a tray of what looked like pizza dough rolls with spinach and cheese on them. They looked good so I asked the owner if it was pizza dough rolled up with the spinach on top. He impatiently answered me that«no — they were rolls». Looked like coiled pizza dough to me, but whatever. I asked if he had cold cuts, just wanted a turkey sub, pretty basic. So far, we are ok. He goes to the other end of counter to make my sub and I notice he doesn’t wipe, wash, or wear gloves on his hands. Before you think I am a crazy germophobe, let me tell you, as someone with the nastiest habit of biting their nails, trust me I don’t get crazy about that stuff. However, while making my sub, the phone rang, he picked it up, started yelling at whoever was on the phone and slammed it down. At that point, 2 gentleman wanted to pay, one with a credit card and one with cash. The owner first, rang up the register, took the credit card and swiped it, rang the register again and took the paper cash from the other gentleman, opened the register and returned his change(coins). Everyone on the planet knows that money is the dirtiest thing you can ever touch. He then went back to make my sub and the phone rang again — he picked it up, grabbed a pen and paper and took the order. Long story long, he hangs up the phone and goes right back to pulling out the turkey for my sub without so much as even wiping his hands after touching all of those things. Now I had somewhat of an idea why the sanitation score hanging on the wall was so low. At that point, having run out of time anyhow, I turned to leave and told the owner not to worry about it, that I didn’t want the sub because he touched everything and was touching my food. He started to say something in an annoyed way but I was already out the door. I really loathe to sound like a freak, but all I could imagine was him walking out of the bathroom without washing his hands. That was enough for me. I’d rather starve.

Very good local authentic Italian restaurant. I have ordered from here many times and only had one marginal dish out of maybe twenty. They always get the orders right… I especially like the Stromboli.

This is the pizza you’ve been looking for. It would be near the top of the heap even in the pizza-centric areas of Yankeeland. Don’t bother going anywhere else in central North Carolina(unless it’s to their branch in Fuquay-Varina — a slightly more formal branch). And don’t forget to get cannoli. It’s not a meal without cannoli.

Being new to the area, I always try out what appear to local restaraunt a compared to chains. Having driven by this pizza place numerous times I thought I would try their advertised lunch Buffet. How can I describe it? Terrible, disappointing and limited with old food left out. A couple of pizzas that had been out for a while, a non discernible chicken part(old) and a tasteless spaghetti carbonara dish. The salad bar was one of the worst I have seen for selection(maybe six topics plus lettuce? Really?). Steer clear of the buffet, but if it’s any indication of the quality of food and service. No thanks!

This place offers the best«New York Pizza» pizza in the Raleigh, Triangle, and probably all of North Carolina areas. I would give it 5 stars but I just can’t because of inflation and the fact that I have eaten at top spots in NYC and CT. Probably lots of other areas outside of New York too. The crust was cooked near perfect because it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cheese and sauce also tasted good.

After our most recent delivery from J & S Pizza this week, I feel like I have to take away a star :(. Although, it came quickly and the driver was really nice as always, it still wasn’t well done even though I requested that way and they said no problem! It was almost soggy on the bottom and not even close to well done. Luckily, it still had it’s usual great flavor, but I was disappointed that they couldn’t accomodate that simple request. It wasn’t like I was ordering at closing time, it was about 6:30. I’m just going to stick to Namoli’s from now on, it’s definitely better pizza on a consistent basis, and they have great sweet heat wings!

I got take out here for lunch. I ordered one medium cheese pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and banana peppers. The pizza was good. I would say a couple of notches above pizza hut/papa johns. I just moved to the area and this will probably be my new pizza spot. Oh I also tried the Garlic Knots, which you can order one at a time for .75 cents a pop. They were decent as well. They came in a container with what. Looked like olive oil in the bottom and lots and lots of garlic and parmesan cheese. I have seen some bad reviews of the staff’s attitudes but I did not have any problems. This was, however, my first time going so that may change in the future. As for now I recommend trying it.

I’ve eaten here a number of times over the past 10 years. I love the baked ziti. The Pizza is good as well. If you’re hungy for some meat forget about other pizza places ‘all the meats pizza’ and try this place’s Stuffed meat pizza. Its incredible! Good service, small family atmosphere.

WOW. Why are there so many great reviews about this pizza? They must all be friends and relatives of the owners or something. The crust is so tough and chewy it makes your jaw sore to chew through it. The crust also has a funny wheat or honey flavor to it. YUCK! Sure, the cheese was melted and it had okay sauce on it I guess, but it is barely edible with that thick crust. I love pizza, and I ended up throwing away most of this pizza because it was not fit to eat. I never throw away left over pizza. I hope everyone else keeps enjoying it because I will not order from thisplace again.

Just took my wife and daughter. Very good NY style pizza. The large salad was big enough for all three and the sauce and crust were the best part. I’d go back again.

OK Unilocalers, I took your Q on this one. All 5 stars. I have never had a NY pizza, I have had Cheesecake from Vito’s. I called and ordered pizza, I get there and had a chance to talk with the Grand Lady herself. What a great Italian accent and a story. She told me how she came to NY and moved to NC, not knowing anyone only her and her husband. What a great story about hard work and a great family recipe. The Pizza is excellent. Hey, my wife said it was delicious what more do you want. LOL. This Pizza is a treat. Love the crust ! I am kinda of a crusty guy.

This is some great pizza, and its authentic New York Pizza. Try the white pizza, it is incredible! They also have a full service restaurant in Fuquay-Varina, that is exceptional as well.
