Simple dessert but so hard to find a place that does it right. This stall is almost like an institution in the east. The Cheng tng is just right, with the right proportion of ingredient. Perfect desert on a hot day!

The Girlfriend lives in the area, so when I’m there on the weekends, there’s a pretty big chance that I’ll pop by to see if this place is open. It’s a specialist place — they serve one thing, and one thing only. No ice jelly, no chendol, no ice kachang. Just cheng tng. And yet the lines are crazy. When you comr by, you’ll know why. Fronted by a sweet-talking, wisecrack-making, glib-as-heck uncle, the stuff they churn out is magic. Even the standard $ 2 portion is chock-full of goodies like winter melon and dried persimmon — stuff you don’t see very often, as people try to cut costs. I usually buy upwards of five bowls to take away, not only because I’m a greedy little fat kid, but also because the rest of the fam is nuts about this stuff. And at $ 2 for the standard, why not?

I dislike bland and watery cheng tng and this is probably the only store that I ever get my Cheng Tng fix. The dessert when well done is a good mix of flavourfuls from its many ingredients while being cooling with bits of jelly and ice in it. I never really know what’s inside my Cheng Tng but I especially like the gingko nut, sweet potato, mung bean and flour balls inside the dessert. I like their natural sweetness complimenting the refreshing drink. There are times when I don’t find sweet potato in my Cheng Tng but I trudge on bravely forwards and look forward to my next bowl of Cheng Tng from Ye Lai Xiang.

The dessert store as the name suggest only sells cheng tng. The cheng tng here is by far the best I ever had for years. I haven’t find another dessert store that serves cheng tng that tops this. Be prepared to wait as there is often a long line of people waiting and many don’t just order 1 bowl. The cheng tng found here is very refreshing and flavorful, loaded with lots of ingredients like dried longan, barley, sweet potato, mung bean, winter melon strips, sago balls, dried persimmon strip, white fungus and ginkgo nut. Often, hot or cold, 1 bowl is not enough.
