I am not sure if the other reviewers are going to the same place as I did but this place is without doubt the worst restaurant in Singapore that I have been to. The owner lady does not know what is service at all. The food is usually half cooked and one can taste the sour dough in the dosai. Every bit of extra chutney or sambar is charged. In the thali, even if you ask for extra pickle, you are charged. And sometimes if you are willing to pay, this lady does not even allow that. I am not sure why people patronize this place but for me, even home cooked maggie mee is better than going to this restaurant.

Huge selection of Indian vegetarian dishes, good value for money. Outside seating is available for those who don’t want to sit inside in refrigerator level temperatures. Friendly staff. Sometimes they are a bit scruffy as they seem to use their t-shirts instead of towels to wipe their hands.

Beyond its warm, attentive waiters and its great location in the Katong area, Udipi’s consistently good food and reasonable prices keep them well-visited by plenty who live in the area, and those who come from far. It’s right across the road from a temple, so that really adds to the authentic vibe you’re already getting from the unpretentious, basic setup. Because of this, however, it can be a bit tricky to get a parking lot, so you might spend some time trying to sort that out. On to food, their menu is purely vegetarian, but its extensiveness will leave you with more options than you knew existed. Even as a regular patron of Indian veg restaurants, there are plenty on the menu that I have yet to try here or anywhere else; they’re creative like that. Must-trys are the Gobi Fry, brightly battered and deep fried cauliflower that go great with mint sauce; don’t be afraid to ask for more. The Channa Masala is always a good choice, and its rich curry goes well with rice, thosai or whatever your choice of bread is. Down it all with a lime juice, freshly squeezed, or a Teh Halia — I’m not a fan, but ginger-loving friends rave about it. Go often and stay friends with the guys who work there; they’ll remember you and your order(there will be favourites) and that just feels really nice on later visits :)
