LOVETHISPLACE. It’s pretty unassuming as it’s in a mall, but once you go inside it’s actually quite fancy. Sure, the prices go along with the ambiance, but the food quality makes up for it. We’ve visited a few times, and our favourites are the lamb(I think it’s tandoori flavoured, which makes it different but good!) and their rendition of butter chicken. What surprised me was their lunch buffet. I believe it’s only during the weekdays, but I finally tried it and I was floored. For $ 19, they have 12 pots of beautifully displayed food. There is a good range of appetisers, vegetarian, seafood, and meat dishes. They also have a separate display where you can get fresh fruits and Indian desserts. My only feedback is that I wish they had name cards with key ingredients for each dish, because I didn’t know what a lot of the dishes were! Now that I’ve been introduced to the awesomeness that is the lunch buffet, I will be sure to make this a once-a-month splurge!

This restaurant serves quite a different kind of Indian curries… Its more from the coastal Indian regions where seafood and coconut based curries are more popular. Very different from Muthu or Apollo where everything is basked in spices and not much flavour comes out. So, no fish head curry served here. Taste is good, service is friendly but prices are a bit on the higher side and servings can be somewhat small but taste wise, its top notch.

Forget Zaffron Kitchen, check out The Mango Tree on the 2nd Floor of I12 Katong, if you are looking for great Indian food in the Katong area! The restaurant entrance doesn’t have the glitz and glamour as that of Zaffron Kitchen across the street. This could explain why it is overlooked by many shopping patrons and doesn’t get the traffic it deserves. What you will find at Mango Kitchen is award-winning Indian Cuisine. The price is a little on the high side, but for the quality of food you get, I think it’s just right. I tried two dishes:(i) Adhraki Panja — Marinated Lamb Chops in Tandoor and(ii) Murgh Makhani — Boneless Chicken in creamy Tomato Sauce. My favorite dish was by far the Murgh Makhani. The boneless chicken was extremely tender worked with the creamy tomato sauce which had a yummy consistency. The Adhraki Panja was not too shabby as well. It was a tad bit salty, but a really unique taste, which I can’t describe, but in a good way. Dare I say the best Indian Cuisine in Katong. Yes!

Stumbled across this Indian restaurant at I12 Katong and was surprised to see one there since most Indian restaurants can only be found in Little India, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant had different sitting areas including the outdoor balcony sitting area and private rooms. We were directed to a table at the balcony, which had a pleasant outdoor ambience. Starting off with The Mango Tree Tandoori Platter($ 24) was a good choice. The platter consisted of chicken kebabs, tandoori prawns and fish kebabs, all of which were succulent and tasty. We also ordered Mouli Jhingadi, which was explained in the menu as tiger prawns cooked in coconut gravy. Though flavorful, the dish did not distinctly taste like Indian cooking hence a disappointment. Overall, it was still an enjoyable experience and I would go back to have any Indian food cravings satisfied instead of travelling all the way to Little India.
