Aiyo. Anyone here watch RuPaul’s Drag Race? This was my reaction to this place: Yes, this place is a chain, but the very least it could do is have free working wifi as advertised and serve some decent drinks despite the marked up prices. It’s in fancy Paragon on Orchard Road, for goodness sakes! I got none of the above when I visited here last week. My chai latte was $ 6 and it looked and tasted like it had 1 teaspoon of chai tea powder with the rest being milk. At least the outdoor deck had lots of seating and it was a decent area to get work done, but I was none too pleased that I had to use my own hotspot on my phone. Next time I’m in the free-wifi-wasteland that is Orchard Road, I’m just going to stick with Starbucks. They are a lot more dependable in situations like these.

Great place to chill out. There might be limited number of tables indoor but there are a few tables outside if you are brave enough to battle the heat and 9000% humidity. Coffee sucks :(There is so much milk in my latte that I hardly taste any coffee.

As far as rival chains go, I’m decidedly in the corner of Starbucks. I have no idea why anyone would have an overall preference for Coffee Bean. I mean the coffee is equally terrible at both but I never understood why Coffee Bean serves you a latte as standard which contains enough milk to drown a mid-sized kitten. It’s not even cost effective! When will people(and chains) realise that drowning coffee in milk renders the coffee drinking itself rather useless! I like this particular Coffee Bean though because it offers some great people watching opportunities, due to the large al fresco area, and even features a smoking section. It’s the only Coffee Bean I’ve come across so far in Singapore that tempts me away from the Green Mermaid.
