After trying out a few dishes, I realize that it is Western food cooked in Chinese style. That’s what the fusion is about. They put sesame and peanuts instead of chocolate chips and rainbow toppings for their brownie ice cream. Another example, they put mashed pumpkin instead of mashed potato onto their western main course. An interesting detail. Their dishes tastes good, have good portions. From starter to main course 5 dishes I am impressed. The brownie ice cream is interesting and nice but I felt their crime brûlée was below par. Their drinks is served in a nice and cute cup that will make you not drink too much you couldn’t finish the food yet has enough for the meal. Photos included. This is a place you can even bring your parents or grand parents over because the fusion foods here will merge Western food with Eastern styles that will not make it too heavy. The price is worth it considering the good service and good portions.

For a seven-course dinner at a reasonable price of $ 35.80++ and a wide selection of western/asian dishes, I would recommend Tao’s. My friend had initially intended to bring me to the restaurant next door, but after waiting for awhile and the restaurant did not seem to be opening, we decided to ditch our initial plan and head over to Tao’s. We were a little surprised when we received the menu as it had not actually looked like a place that would serve only a 7-course meal. The decorations were modern, chic and bright, and the music was mostly from the 90s or early 2000s and mostly pop. It was a comfortable, non-pretentious place and the food was equally so. There is a complimentary hot fruit tea, a delicious ice plum vinegar and a beverage each with our seven-course meal. I absolutely loved my iced summer peach tea with the peach slices inside. I also enjoyed the very asian soups, especially my Japanese fish consommé, and the fruit salad. The mains were not very good, admittedly. I had the Atlantic flounder baked with cheese and it felt decidedly cheap, perhaps because of the cheese used. My friend had the safe option of beef with mushroom sauce, but we were both too full by that time to enjoy our creamy meals. The lime crystal ice jelly is also rather good, tasting a little like lime juice with aloe vera which, if you haven’t tried it, is a heavenly combination. The crème brûlée though was average, with a very soft but firm custard instead of the usual slightly runny custard you’d get outside. On the whole, I enjoyed the brisk service although it was rather annoying when they kept coming over to ask if we’re done when we were eating rather slowly. The food was not bad and worth the value for the price, but I probably would not have it again given that I don’t enjoy such big meals anyway and it was not exceptional. It was certainly something different, with an option for everyone.

We were looking for somewhere nice to go and Tao’s Restaurant appeared at the top of the list. It seemed attractive as the price was $ 21.80++ for lunch, 6 course meal. Tao’s Restaurant stands true to its set menu concept of «One price, One Menu, Many Selections». Tao’s Restaurant is a fushion restaurant that serves a combination of Western and Asian Cuisine. It is well known for its concept of set menu; serving 6 to 7 course meal at affordable prices. It is a middle-end restaurant, located within a shopping mall. Personal favourite dishes: Bacon and Mushroom Gratin, Prawn Roll with Pork Floss, Mushroom Soup, Pork Back Ribs, Crème Brulee and Iced Rose Apple Tea. $ 21.80 plus plus, $ 25.66 nett for this 6 course set lunch. Super yummy!

This restaurant is definitely worth the money. Their menu is simple. 6 course menu for lunch and 7 course menu for dinner, where you can choose your appetizers, mains, dessert and drinks. One of the highlight is their fruit tea, it is served in exquisite pots and wood plates. Though it is tea that was served, you wouldn’t mind eating up the fruits that comes together in the pot. It is definitely one of the highlight. The serving can be too much as I was pretty full with just the appetizers but frankly speaking the crab and prawn salad was really good. it would be a place for you to bring your date as this place offers great ambience and food which you will want to visit again.

If you’re looking for good food with your date for the night, minus the crowds but yet be near the trendy town area for movie after, Tao’s is the place to go. Not many seem to know about this place yet, perhaps due to its location. Its further down the road from Cathay, away from the Orchard area, right next to School of the Arts(SOTA). Reservations are recommended for dinners as the menu serves a full 7 course(starter, salad, side, soup, main, course, dessert and beverage), and people tend to take their time to enjoy the meal. I would recommend going for the dinner course at $ 35.80++ per person, as the menu offers their signature dishes! Their lamb rack is very well prepared, with none of the nasty linger-in-your-mouth taste thanks to their yummy mint sauce. Their grilled seasonal mushrooms has to be the only vegetable(fungi?) I would pick over meat — super good! Best part of the meal is the beverage — lame but true! Try any of their teas! It comes in a pot looking so ‘natural’ with cubes of fruits, petals and herbs mixed with ice. Its a perfect mix of sweet with tangy fruits to balance the heavy meal. My favourite is Iced Summer Peach Tea! Definitely one for the girls. One downside is that it’s quite a far walk from the nearest MRT station at Dohby Ghaut, and the it is a touch too pricey for frequent visits.
