Tried the scissors curry rice. Must say that it pales in comparison to the beach rd one. But it’s the best one can get in the area. The color and taste are comparatively subdued. I had mine to go and they considerately placed a plastic cover inside the brown paper to contain the juices. The curry chicken was okay — I find the curry quite plain as I like my curry spicy. The pork chops ala Katsu could have been crispier and it was just passable. Teh also just so-so It was quite cheap and really much more reasonable than the rip-off Teochew porridge just down the road. They also sell porridge in the same stall too though.

This place is known for its Hainanese Scissor Cut Curry Rice. There’s always a long queue out the front, so despite the inconvenience of getting there, I made a trip down to check it out. The curry chicken wing was tender but somewhat bland, so I didn’t really like that. The pork chops were a little dry, but it was pretty tasty. I liked the cabbage, and stewed fatty pork. They were both perfectly cooked till there was a nice balance between the tenderness and chewiness. The minced pork ball was probably the best item I ordered. It’s firm and springy as you bite into it, and very juicy. Full marks for flavours and texture, none for presentation though! There are also a lot of other things to choose from, but that’s all I ordered. It’s open from 6pm till 5am in the morning. There’s a queue even at midnight! But don’t worry, they are really fast and efficient. The queue moves quickly. It’s located in its own kopitiam space, so lots of space for seating. Parking in that area isn’t too bad later at night, but if you’re going earlier, you may have to park further away and walk over.
