This is definitely some good Yakitori! They seem to be experts on seasoning their«stuff on sticks». like seriously! Nothing was«too salty» or «not salty enough»… Everything was absolutely spot on! I ordered this baby onion thing which was sweet and salty at the same time. It was like eating onion rings from burger king haha, but on another«level» of course! Plus if you’re like me an enjoy Sake… its a plus coz they bring in their Sake from Orihara Shoten(the Sake Bar just beside it) and you have a really huge selection of Sake to choose from. The staff here don’t seem to be too knowledgeable on the menu but do seem to put in the effort, so kudos to that. Just a tip — Get the Yaegaki Nigori Sake if you’re a beginner like me. Its sweet and unfiltered and goes down SOEASILY. It’s my favourite Sake and quite reasonable for about 90bucks a bottle.(Remember to shake it before each pour!) If you like chicken Yakitori, this has to be the absolute best place in Singapore for this in my opinion. I’ll definitely be back! Rating 4.5÷5

I have been going to Shirokane Yakitori for over 5 times in less than a month now. I personally think this is the second best yakitori place in Singapore(after Otowa) and reasonably priced as hell(about 40−50% cheaper than Otowa). However, Shirokane Yakitori is simply nothing short of an amazing restaurant. I love going there after work, have some yakitori with cold beer and unwind. To fully appreciate their food, you would need to be able to eat a little«weird food» from various chicken parts though. Personal favorites: chicken heart(always soft and juicy, melt in your mouth) lower back(a little fatty but there is still meat) neck meat(soft, a little hard but juicy) chicken skin chicken cartilage chicken breast(juicy with yuzu pepper on top for a twist) Often it’s fully booked so it’s necessary to make reservations at least a day before, but it is well worth the effort as it’s many regulars will tell you. The food is grilled by two legit Japanese masters over small charcoal grills fanned. The variety of foods you can order from shitake mushrooms to succulent various chicken parts which is just amazing. Japanese alcoholic drinks and other authentic Japanese rice dishes round off the experience. Also unique is you can choose whether you want your Yakitori to be SHIO(salted) or TARE(sweetened), I always order SHIO for everything and every visit. Wrapping the whole experience is the attentive and friendly waiters who are always ready to refill your empty free iced water drinks. This place is really MUST be experienced to understand. I also love the vibe there, not too loud, kinda peaceful and smell like food since they cook behind the counter front of the house. This place is not the typical super loud Japanese restaurant when the waiters yell«welcome, thank you… etc» non-stop. So definitely a good place for romantic dates as well.

I’m definitely upping this to four stars. If the service was better this would be five-star worthy. While Otowa may present food with greater care and craftsmanship(and therefore is still the #1 yakitori place for me), there’s something to be said about how much cheaper Shirokane is. My three friends and I ate a pretty decent amount(I’d say about 10 – 12 skewers each), and basically spent something like $ 70 per head(not counting our sake). That amount of food would have cost over $ 100 at Otowa. I tried a broader range of items this time, and again, would highly recommend the kawa(skin) the… lower back, the heart, the liver, the neck-skin, the neck meat, and the cheese. All of those items are spectacular, with the lower back deserving special mention. It’s sinfully fatty, but arrives crisp, well seasoned, and delicious. I’m glad I went back a second time because going with a larger group really allowed me to try a broader range of items and better appreciate the overall high quality of the food on offer here. Now if only the service was better…

There are two portion to this restaurant, a sake bar and a yakitori joint. Visiting the yakitori joint was an eye-opener for me. I love to eat chicken but not until the day I ate at this restaurant that I learnt there are many other edible parts of a chicken other than the usual breast, thighs and wings. This yakitori restaurant dishes out mainly yakitori chicken of various«strange» parts. Most of which, I have never eaten before or have the thoughts that I will ever eat them. Some of the interesting parts are the crown, the spleen, the windpipes. There are much more and I would say this is not a meal for the«faint» hearted. After the meal, my stomach can literally reconstruct the chicken. The price for dinner here can be rather costly depending on the items you pick for the yakitori. It is worth checking out at least once if you are a chicken lover.
