Walked in on a Friday night without a reservation and they only had seats for us at the bar upstairs. Fair enough… though we wish they’d warned us that upstairs meant a noisier, clubbier vibe versus the more ‘restaurant-y’ feel of downstairs. Food menu’s limited to four«mains» and a good spread of bar snack/tapas type items. The cheese toast was… underwhelming. I’m not sure why anyone would order it. It was so pedestrian that I can’t even describe it convincingly beyond«it was mediocre and underwhelming». And forgettable. The grilled avocado was actually a salad(description didn’t make that clear), the dressing was nice, a sharp Japanese dressing that went well with the greens and tomatoes, though it felt overpriced when the only thing that differentiated it from a MOS Burger salad was the presence of avocado. The fried salmon skin was… well seasoned though not perfectly fried, the skin was a bit hard to bite through and not completely airily crisp.(I suspect the oil hadn’t been hot enough.) The duck somen was tasty, though the portion was tiny. Drinks though boded well, the homemade plum wine is to die for, a good balance of sweet and tart, it’s probably a better appetiser than any food item on the menu. The cocktails sounded interested and the date’s Boruto 80 or something like that was a pleasant blend of cucumber, mint, and grape. I felt it needed a bit of sharpness(like green apple), but it wasn’t bad by any means. Overall I’d come back for that homemade plum wine. And while I’m there I might order more food. I’ll have low expectations, but hey, the food was edible at least. There’re bars with worse.
