Phoon Huat

I don’t know why but all my married female friends pick up baking after marriage. What is this? Is it some secret transformation that happens to all women? Whatever it is, they all swear by Phoon Huat, saying it’s the mecca of all things cake.
The trend must not be limited to only my friend circles, as Phoon Huat has been sprouting out everywhere. And it’s gotten here in the quiet neighbourhood of Toa Payoh, just outside the Braddell MRT station.
To the seasoned cake baker, she/he’d know that there is everything you need. From baking powder, to flavouring and colouring additives, canned fruits and fruit syrups… what else, ah the paper cups that you can use to put your cup cakes, to the moulds for biscuits… and also the chocolate sprinklings that you can use as decorations. In short, if you want to bake something, NO WORRY NO FIND.
To the non-​baker, you’ll see tons of cereals and nuts, and go ‘ooooh’ at the bubble tea pearls and powder.

Once in a while, I got the mood to bake cake and I will make my way to Phoon Huat to find all my ingredient there. I still remember my first time there. I was fascinated about the fact that I am able to make Pineapple Tarts, Mooncake any time if I want. But that is just a thought.
When I have the urge to bake a cake, I will make my purchase here and each time I will spend about $ 30. In the shop if you want to find flour, you need to know what type of flour as there are really quite a number of them. I spend some time just trying to get the correct flour. Luckily, the store assistant know exactly where each item is and can straight away tell you where they are.
Another tips is that you will need to bring along a list of what you want so that you don’t go wrong with it.
Phoon Huat also offers baking classes which I may take up one day. Something new to try :)
