Mellben Signature

So soooo yummy! The crab bee hoon is my FAV crab dish in Singapore so far. The noodles and crab soaking in that ridiculously delicious broth… I wanted to pick the huge bowl up to slurp every last drop! Will return for more:)

A restaurant that you must visit in Singapore for the chili crab! That is all I can say. Five stars!

It’s a treat by the local head, so dun ask me how much I’ve spent: P And it’s up to the local to order. We have crab soup with noodle, pepper crab, veggie etc. The crab noodle soup is the best here. The crab is not over cooked and the texture is just right. The crab soup is the essence — so fresh and smell so good which got me fully indulged (in the world of crab, haha) Pepper crab is fine too, just that the crab soup is exceptional… The open area for seating is spacious and relaxing. Shame that it’s a biz dinner haha…

I’ve always been a fan of Mellben seafood and have waited in line for a few hours on several occasions at the Ang Mo Kio outlet, just for a taste of the signature crab. Naturally, I was elated to know that this new place existed, and that all we needed was a reservation. No wait! Hell, I’d pay extra for that ;)
I had my first yu-​sheng of the year yesterday night here. It was pretty decent. The ingredients were finely sliced, not like certain places where you get thick strips. Definitely worth ordering!
The crispy tofu, a house signature, is a MUST order. You will not regret it! I can have a plate of this to myself for snacks/​supper!
Garlic kai lan — Pretty standard. Loved that they were very generous with the garlic :)
Playboy chicken (feng liu ji) — Yes, we ordered this because we were curious about the name: P This turned out to be fried chicken in thai sauce (slightly sour). I made a bad joke about how when the guy is a playboy, the girl gets jealous, hence the sour taste. Ha ha ha. Ok, sorry, that wasn’t funny. Moving on!
Signature Crab bee hoon — We ordered extra beehoon and soup ($ 5/​each). The soup is just pure goodness. I love how you can taste the sweetness of the crab in the soup. My friends who ordered rice ended up pouring the soup over their rice and ate it like porridge: P
Signature Butter crab — I’ve never tasted butter crab as good as the Mellben style before, and by the end of dinner, I was drinking the butter sauce off my plate. Yes, drinking… like soup. Ok, I’m feeling very guilty about this right now since I probably gotta run extra rounds in the gym with all the butter and coconut milk, but hell, I’d say it was worth it! We also ordered man tou to dip in the butter sauce. Awesomeeeees.
The bill turned out to be about $ 40/​person for 7 people, so about $ 280 in total. I’d say it is on the decent side since we had crabs. And the best part? No wait!!! :D :D
