Not quite in NYC, but right in between Singapore’s shipping and financial districts lies a little burger joint churning out some tasty chow. In the still-being-revamped/re-done/re-somethinged food court of Bestway Building(former TV12 headquarters), these guys have gone boldly where not many would choose to go… and set up their kitchen as a pioneer, and count a economoical rice stall and a malay food stall as their only neighbours… for now. That quite easily makes them a standout option(unfair advantage, if you ask me, haha), but let that not have any bearing on your opinion till you put their food in your mouth. When you hear that something on the menu is called the Fat Elvis, how do you not want to try that? This is what I was tweeted, asking what to try: «The Fat Elvis: 120g, banana, bacon, peanut butter!!» Simple, effective, made me hungry. When I got there, chef/boss/burger-flipper says he’s got chunky peanut butter today, is that okay? And I say heck yeah. I’m always pro-chunky. The Girlfriend orders the BBQ burger… and we wait. I sit down, and food comes and wow. I’m pretty impressed. This Fat Elvis, either is inspired by the great man’s tastes and/or girth, or aims to get me there. It’s a tall burger — fat, hand-formed patty, cooked with a bit of pink in the middle, bacon, caramelised banana, and that chunky, chunky peanut butter. It’s a big mouthful, and it works great for me, since I love this sweet/salty/texture all-in-one-bite experience. The Girlfriend’s BBQ burger has onion rings, and a «pocket» of BBQ sauce in the middle, says the chef/boss/burger-flipper, and it’s true. I steal a bite when she’s not looking, and BOOM. I hit the pocket, and that sauce is pretty sweeeeeet. Chunky fries come with the burger, and while you can upgrade them to truffle fries, I’m good with the regular, since I douse them in ketchup anyway. When you want to try them out, keep your eyes open, because I hear they are on the move pretty soon!
