We checked out the Sunday Champagne Brunch at J65. At $ 128 nett, it’s one of the most affordable champagne brunch serving free flow of Perrier-Jouët champagne, beers, wines, juices and drinks. Well even if not for the food, the champagne alone would be worth the tag. The food selection is quite small, with only 1 live station that does Asian noodles. What I enjoyed was the selection of healthy and tasty salads and greens(great for vegetarians), decent selection of cold seafood, and a variety of meats and cold cuts. Skip desserts and stick with the bubbly as the calories are better spent on the latter. Or if you must, pop over to Jen’s Kitchen On-the-Go — the lobby café and snack bar which offers locally roasted coffee and sweet concoctions like this Cake Shake that I had as a birthday cake.

$ 78nett seafood buffet is hard to beat. At the raw station, there are fresh oysters, Boston lobsters, mussels and fresh prawns, sashimi. Lobster was tough and tasteless though. But the rest were good. In the salad section, lots of different types. Healthy and tasty. Mango salad with shrimp aka Thai salad, roasted vegetables and also quinoa and mushrooms. At the hot section, tons of other yummy food like roast beef, roast lamb, baked salmon, roast meats and 6 different types of laksa. There is 2 different soups — one Chinese and one western. There is also a bit of Malay and Indian fare if that tickles your fancy. Dessert is mainly western cakes and the trendy cake and dessert in little jars. Also fresh fruits for the health conscious. In a nutshell, there is something for everyone. If there is a birthday, they offer complimentary cupcake tower with candle.

My favorite cousin from my dad’s side of the family is 12 years younger than me and just recently finished his BMT(Basic Military Training, Singapore). Knowing that I was on my way out of Singapore, he asked that I join him and the rest of the family for another meal so that he can share his latest — hopefully funny — experiences in Tekong. Yet, I must point out that there one primary difference with this meal: he actually challenged me to a volume-binge at this buffet. Of course, there was no cash involved and just good ol’fun between cousins.(A little background info: he was still a pup when I went through the military… and he still remembers my crazy stories from back then… as well as labelled me as his favorite«crazy but fun» cousin, lol). Soooo…the battle begins! As always, my buffet ritual(in any form of competition) is as follows: 1. Enter leopard mode, stalk the whole buffet line, and strategically decide which route is best for tackling all desirable dishes. I usually map out in my mind every dish that I will try before deciding the binge-worthy. 2. Enter hummingbird mode, grab a bit of just about everything interesting, fly back to the table, and taste each section. 3. Enter squirrel mode, run back and forth to my favorite dishes, stuff my mouth until I look like a raccoon, and work up a larger appetite in the process. 4. Enter camel mode, drink enough liquids to rinse out the initial sudden salt intake as well as stretch out the stomach. 5. Enter monkey mode, chit-chatter-talk-endlessly-with-others-in-company, and wait as the stretched out stomach transitions all the extra liquid. 6. Enter dog mode and say hi to the almighty«wall». 7. Enter bear mode and feast on the real favorites until hibernation comes calling. Yep, my cousin lost so bad… it wasn’t even funny… lol. USEFULINFORMATION: The cooked food in the buffet is pathetic at best with only a few that were even worthy of tasting. What made up for this was the cold seafood section with the Boston lobster, salmon and tuna sashimi(yep, I actually ate these fresh but poor knife skill cuts), and crab legs. Sure, it gets boring eating the same thing repeatedly but try this next time at a buffet. Create your own sauces for the cold dishes… such as eating the lobster with chilli crab sauce, soy and wasabe, chilli sauce, or lemon. It kept the boring away and allowed me to hippo away enough to destroy my cousin’s total tally by 3 times. =) Unilocal 100: 49⁄100 /My-last-3-weeks-in-SG

I went there for a family function and I liked that the place had a nice, casual feel to it. It was relaxed and thankfully, not too crowded. They serve and Asian International spread, so they had dishes ranging from Crustacean Bisque and Baked Seabass to Chicken Tikka and Sushi. They also have a seafood counter that served the works of crab, mussels, clams, scallops and lobsters. Some of the dishes were appetizing, but some weren’t up to scratch. Several dishes also had really unusual names and descriptions. Unfortunately, I’m a more of a «safe» buffet person. At $ 73 per head, I’m not sure I’ll be heading back there anytime soon.
