I was pretty much dragged into the reality of motherhood kick and screaming… The concept of having a baby was easy… however, the idea of actually preparing to have a brand new person living in our SG sized apartment was much too devastating to entertain… so I took the same approach I took with the SATs back in high school… lazed about in an imaginary felucca in the misty river of denial and procrastinated… Mother & Child’s Antenatal class saved me… it should pretty much be called«all the shit you’re going to need to know before becoming a parent crammed into four 2-hour sessions… you’re welcome!» Of course, at the time, my attitude was terrible… I’d excuse myself to go 3 floors down to get a smoothie… when the crochet boobs came out during the class on breastfeeding, I giggled like a teenage boy and almost peed myself. But after showing up to the hospital with an ironclad birth plan(believe me I had no idea what those were either before the class) and realizing we actually had the knowledge to take care of the new little person in our life from bathing to feeding to swaddling, burping and diapering, we realized that the class was incredibly helpful! We’ve gone back for several other offerings including the Baby First Aid Class for my helper and the New Mums Class for me and both were very well run. The environment is very comfortable and relaxed and the instructors have tons of hands on experience. Another useful service they offer is the well baby clinic. First visit is $ 50 and subsequent visits are $ 35, which include full baby measurements(I find they are more meticulous than my PD’s office) and patient answers to your most burning 20 questions as a new mom. They also typically have a lactation consultant during these sessions so if you have positioning or other feeding issues, they can provide hands on help. PARTINGTHOUGHT: I’d recommend these classes to all new parents, even if you are as reluctant as I was. Mother & Child experts equip you with the basic confidence to tackle new parenthood! We may even sign up El Queso Grande for the Daddy and Me Massage Class!

This is one of those places every new mom should have in their rolodex. This is a resource and education centre for pre-natal and post-natal moms and dads. They teach classes on Birth, Baby First Aid, Pre-natal Yoga, Lactation and all kinds of other helpful stuff. It’s also a good way to connect with other parents.
