I went for dinner and the food was awesome. Service is slow and price is high. One time visit for special ocassions …

All of the food is amazing. Really, all of it. The service is so-so. Just how it is. The price causes mild pain.

Very poor service and I got sick after eating there. I used to go to this place often as the ambiance is excellent and the location is also very good. However the last few times I have always encountered some problems after dining here, also the service is terrible.

I’ll give Yantra four stars for the food, but was slightly put off by the wait staff trying to talk us out of ordering dal because we refused to order naan or rice. Interesting that they think dal can’t be eaten without a plateful of carbs. So much that they would rather convince a customer to not spend money on their food. Loved the raita, that’s a scoop of heaven right there is what that is! Truly the best I’ve ever tasted. The roasted eggplant is definitely worth going back for and we will if I can convince my better half to get past the décor he believes he paid for. Oh, and we did end up ordering the dal too which was on par with what we’ve tried in other Indian restaurants. Quite a romantic place to go for a Friday night, but deceiving in how expensive it is. The cost caught us by surprise because of the location being in old Tanglin Mall. Perhaps because Marketplace is an anchor tenant, which may bring in a lot of expats, which further means jack up the prices and apply the white tax folks.

Expensive! But food tasted good. Service was nice. But the bill not so nice. Not sure why it’s so expensive here. Felt like I was asked to pay for the décor too!

Its always difficult for me to come to terms to pay high price for an Indian curry because all restaurants(except Song of India) use the same cream, heavy curry base, same cuts of chicken and thus, taste quite similar. I like the décor but I never feel like paying premium prices for the interior decoration — I rather go to a museum for that. The buffet seems value for money but as a previous reviewer mentioned, meats are monotone. For me its just another Indian restaurant with premium being charged for hanging some expensive paintings on their walls.

We visited on a Friday afternoon, and the food was all in all quite good. I thought the meats were a bit one note, but the vegetarian variety was great. They also had a salty lemonade that I couldn’t get enough of. They didn’t have any lamb, or else this would have been 5 stars. For a $ 30 buffet, I think the price warrants some premium meats.

Best indian food I tried in singapore. Expensive fine dining but the taste is definitely worth it. Go for the sunday brunch to indulge in chats and hot jalebis along with the usual kababs, nans and sides!

Probably the best Indian buffet in town. That sentence does not really do justice to Yantra’s buffet. Hidden away in one the corners of Tanglin Mall is Yantra. Not a place to eat at every day, but if you have visitors and want to show them some great Indian food, then try Yantra. I can only comment on the weekend buffet, which is pricier, but has different free flow options. The choice of food is really very good. The main trick is not to overdo the appetizers and leave room for the entrees. One tip is to bypass the rice. Amongst the appetizers, for me the tandoori mushroom stand out for flavor. Entrees include many lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes each cooked with the same consistent care and attention as the others. The staff will also bring you some appetizers made in front of everyone by one of the chef’s. Very tasty. Pricy yes, but a great place to eat good Indian food if you have the stomach and the wallet.

Very nice ambiance and comfy too. Attentive and courteous staff. Food is great but very expensive — I ordered mixed grill and entrée with pellegrino and a dessert –it’s close to USD$ 150 .what!!!

For 25 bucks… the lunch buffet was ok. I was hoping for more… or at least that I wouldn’t have to keep asking for more bread and water.

Highlights: Excellent food, very attentive waitstaff, great ambiance and décor, surprisingly upscale. All the tandoori items were perfectly cooked. Huge menu, lots of variety and vegetarian friendly. Lowlights: Pricey(but considering quality worth it for me) and an odd location in a corner of Tanglin Mall that makes it easy to miss and hard to find. Best off entering from the Trader’s Hotel side. It’s a bit of a gem inside a midrange mall. The lowlights keep it 4 stars for me but the food is 5 star. It’s hard not to love a place that serves blue cheese naan.

We frequent Yantra for the both weekday and weekend lunch buffet. It’s a great deal considering the variety and the amount of food you can try, and it’s impressive how they make each dish uniquely flavored and different from others. We might not like them all, but can always find a few(usually a veggie stew or some chicken curry for me) that we like and make us go back for second or third rounds. The ambiance is somewhat exotic, but soothing with comfy chairs. The staff is always friendly to our kids and accommodating to our needs. SUM: I can do this once a month.

Tucked away at the end of Tanglin Mall(street level coming in from Starbucks or Traders Hotel side, not Taxi Stand level) is Yantra. It looks posh and quiet. Either most people overlook this place or think it is too expensive. They are not wrong. The location is not the greatest as it is not easily visible from both the inside and outside. The a la carte dishes are very pricey. Mains and entrees start from $ 20 to $ 50 or more. Fortunately they do a lunch buffet on weekdays and weekends which make it very affordable to try and dine. I went on a Thursday and the lunch buffet was $ 19++ which is value for money. The quality of the Indian food is excellent and the ambience and décor are classy, understated elegance, making it almost a fine dining destination. The dishes available when I was there(what I can remember): It serves 3 kinds of rice — briyani(chicken and vegetarian) and plain white rice. There are 2 tandoori dishes(prawns and chicken — pretty tender and moist, much better than most places which are often dry and hard). There is a decent variety of relishes and chutneys, including regular raita and tomato/vegetable raita). The curries and vegetables(okras, paneer, broccoli cheese…) are equally tasty. Plain naans are brought to your table. Dessert — carrot pudding, rice pudding, gulab jamun and fresh fruits. As Indian desserts go, they are generally very sweet and these are no exception. That said, I am pretty much blown away as a tiny bit goes a long way and the sweetness becomes just nice. The gulab jamun is kept warm in a pot and it is soft and light and moist. Service is also excellent. The water glass was topped up constantly without having to be asked. I would definitely want to go back again, but likely for the lunch as dinner will be too expensive since most people will order several dishes to share.
