It’s average. I would have it at 2.5 stars. We started off with the burrata, which is great but you can’t exactly credit the chef for it. The 3 pastas we ordered: signature crab vodka, squid ink and the special of the day with fresh porcini mushrooms were decent. The pizza(4 seasons) was not good. The crust is wrong(read: bad), the way the toppings are laid out on the pizza is wrong, the entire pizza is just off. Desserts — just save your money. Tiramisu was so stale and absolutely tasteless. The chocolate lava cake was the tiniest one I’ve ever has for $ 15, and it tasted bad. There are enough good food in Joo Chiat for me to ever think of coming back.

I love this place. Whenever I’m craving good Italian food this is my go to spot in Singapore(luckily, it’s also in my neighbourhood). The chef has awesome staples that I usually stick to like the Blackmore beef(literally melts in your mouth), pizza and maybe an agile olio pasta. He also introduces new items that are always fun to try. So far I’ve had the bone marrow(meat butter!), baked sardines(tastes like chargrilled oceany goodness) and a variation on my usual aglio olio but with the addition of fresh prawns, chilies and a sauce made from lemongrass and prawn juice which was delicious. Definitely recommend this place and don’t be afraid to be a little adventurous, you won’t be sorry.

So for my last night in Singapore on this recent trip, my friend took me to his favorite Italian restaurant Gusto Napoli. Since we were both craving meat, we started out with an order of the fried chicken wings that were a new menu item … and it was an excellent start. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and had excellent flavor. My friend who is from GA said it reminded him of good southern style fried chicken. Next, we ordered the Blackmore(Australian) Wagyu Beef appetizer and I all I can say is that this is one of the few things that I have eaten which made my eyes roll back and make me slowly chew and savory every moment!!! Cooked to perfection, nicely seared on the outside and just the perfect amount of red/pink on the inside and sliced to the right thickness. What was next? How about a bone in ribeye steaks from the U.S. that Justin managed to have imported into Singapore(after an extended ban since the Mad Cow scare)? This monster steak is similar to Tomahawk Steaks served here in the U.S. but without the Flintstone’s style extended bone. This steak was likewise cooked to perfection, sliced and served with the bone on the side(see my picture). Easily one of the top 3 ribeye steaks I have had(and I have had a lot!!). Oh, and this thing was so big that three of us could not finish it in one sitting. So, if you are in Singapore on the eastside and looking for some excellent Italian food or steaks, I highly suggest Gusto Napoli. For beef lovers, don’t fear the price … you MUST try the Blackmore!!! ** March 2016 ** I am sorry to learn from my friend who lives near Gusto that they recently closed and are no longer in business… this is truly a sad day for my taste buds

This is a lovely Italian spot on Joo Chiat Road, and Fransisca’s review reminded me that I needed to revisit this place. It’s a bit pricey, but their new-ish renovation(as of Oct 2014) and food quality justifies the price. Chef Justin is a local, but he sure knows his Italian food. I appreciated the generously portioned bread basket that was served to me before my main. I ordered the pasta with a duck ragu– it was creamy and had hints of sweetness, thanks to the sun dried tomatoes that were thrown in. I asked the server to help me pair it with a house red, and he rightfully recommended the cabernet sauvignon– I forgot the name of it but it worked! Desserts are on the pricey end as they start at $ 15, but I decided to treat myself«halfway» by ordering a scoop of ice cream for $ 6. I wanted to try the hazelnut but it wasn’t available. My vanilla scoop was served with fresh raspberries and blueberries — yum! Great spot for family dinners, with your significant other, or even solo, which is what this experience is based on. I hope it isn’t another year before I return again!

It was our second time there last night. Service is consistent good and food is excellent and good value for the price. A little personalized service was always nice. When we ordered our food, we told the chef who took our order that we would be sharing everything. Our pasta came split into 2 already, so we dont have to worry it. We had a chance to have a quick chat with the chef. We learnt that he was the owner of this little Italian fare called Gusto Napoli. As far as I know, Chef/Owner restaurants are always a winner as they take pride of the food quality that they serve.

Had my first visit(and probably the last) to this Italian restaurant. Service was good and friendly. The waiter was very attentive, well-trained, friendly, and professional. Bread was served before dinner. The bread was hot and fresh but wasn’t spectacular. The pricing is competitive and fairly similar to most other Italian restaurants around the area. The menu selection offered the usual dishes you would expect from a typical Italian joint, however, they did have a few specialties that was listed on a chalk board(which I failed to notice until much later). We ordered the spaghetti bolognese and seafood risotto. We found the pasta to be a little too over cooked for our liking but that could have been a personal preference. It tasted a little too mushy to boot. The risotto came under cooked. After taking two bites, I had to send it back. My dining companions had finished their pasta before I got my risotto again. It was good of them to make me a new one but I still felt it was slightly under cooked, albeit — edible. We were initially tempted to try out their desert selection, but after the disappointing meal, we decided not to chance it.
