LARGE selection of cider and beers from around the world(but mainly UK! — yay!). this place will help to make a Brit feel like home. Grab yourself some proper fat chips and a pint of cider and this no-nonsense place will get you started for the night ahead. Very friendly staff — especially the manger, who will patiently walk you through the menu and choose the best beverage according to your taste. Aircon at the back, fans at the front — take your pick! Outside seating will allow you to sit with your dog or your hipster East-sider bicycle. Thunder tea rice is next door and if you are lucky, you may be allowed to order some and eat it with your drink — ask nicely and smile! This is a super down to earth neighbourhood bar that serves great beer and cider at honest prices with no frills. Nothing fancy — just a great place.

This is the worst bar I’ve ever been to! We asked the«manager» what the flavour of the ciders on tap were and he crudely replied«if you understand english you will understand the menu. i don’t have to explain anything to you.» and other condescending and rude comments, then abruptly walked away from our table. it just ruined the night. I might be ignorant about ciders but this bar is definitely ignorant about customer service and basic respect!!!

Had a few beers here last night — they have Ghost Ship(my favourite craft beer) ONTHETAP!!! It’s a pretty chill place to have a conversation with friends, and the crowd is pretty casual as well. The beers on tap are light ales — if you’re game for something stronger go for the bottles. Will give the ciders a try the next time I’m there!

No longer managed by the guys from East of Avalon, Ocean Kingdom’s beer garden has changed hands but still offers a well-priced and extensive selection of beers and ciders. Recently renovated, they’ve moved the fish tanks to a room in the back, converting the space in the front to a sheltered area for additional tables that can also be used by patrons of the beer garden. A big difference from the old Cider Pit where rain meant huddling under the umbrellas and definitely getting a little wet. Besides that, not much else has changed, and the casual vibes and 90s music have remained. Nevertheless, I’m still looking forward to the original Cider Pit re-opening in a new location, and it’s going to be hard deciding where to spend my Sunday afternoons once they do.

I came over to Joo Chiat to chill out with my friends, and we decided to try out The Cider Pit which none of us had ever tried before. I am a huge fan of cider and really much prefer it to beer, which is probably why my friend recommended for us to come here. We made our way in to a very typical pub like décor and ambience, and proceed to look through the menu. The joint has a very wide range of English ale and cider, and it was almost too difficult to make a choice. Anyway, I settled on the London Pride in the end. The drink turned out to be fantastic, and a few more drinks topped out the night. Overall, this is definitely a great place to chill out with friends, with nice music and awesome service. Recommended!

A great place to chill out over beers, the Cider Pit is unfortunately located within the stretch of Joo Chiat more known for its KTV lounges and ‘butterfly’ girls. With a great selection of beers at affordable prices, there’s nothing I don’t like about the place. Maybe just parking and the fact that it can get quite stuffy. They should install more fans for the place as the majority smoke here and no one enjoys stale cigarette air.

Amidst the dodgy drinking options in Joo Chiat(usually limited to KTV lounges), the Cider Pit stands out as a gem, bursting with lots of cider, cheap options and a great atmosphere. If you’re there often enough, you’ll soon realise the strong pool of regulars make the pub more fun than it already is, but even occasional passers by looking for a nice cold beer feel most welcome. The Cider Pit features an international selection of beers and ciders that you’d have trouble finding anywhere else. Think Badgers, Brothers, Marston’s, Pedigree, Brains and more. If you’re feeling unadventurous, you can enjoy a Heineken or Asahi for just $ 6 — the cheapest you’ll get at any decent pub on the island. Reminiscent of the old Cheers sitcom, it really is a place where everybody knows your name, and unless you’re a drunken lout, are usually glad you came.
