This is a 2.5 star plate of Hokkien Mee for me. The half star more is because the auntie is polite and nice and gives a really homely neighborhood vibe. I am not getting the rave reviews as the broth doesn’t seem to have much seafood sweetness. I am not sure if it is because I was there at lunch instead of dinner. there was nobody else in line and the auntie simply scooped up a plate without frying it, and gave it to me. Chilli is nice like what the other reviewers said, but the X-factor is definitely missing in this plate.

I thought hard if I should write this review. I’ve been eating here since I was a kid and frankly it’s one of the most underrated places. Part of me would like to keep it that way because there’s always a wait as it is. Not because they are slow but because everybody orders it. The thing I love about the noodles is there’s no lard. Just prawn and squid. And the chili sauce is divine, it doesn’t taste like any other chili sauce anywhere. But even without chili the noodles are amazing, far better than some of those famous stalls frequently featured on TV.

I love the Hokkien Mee here. While service can be a bit slow(due to the huge popularity which means lots of orders ahead of you) the people manning the stall are always friendly and accommodating. The food itself comes a wet sauce that adds so much flavour to the dish. And I have to say their chilli packs a punch which makes everything go so well together.

This is another food stall that has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. The fried hokkien noodle is the wet kind, with a very sweet broth made by cooking pork bones and prawn shells for hours. The chili gives a real kick and the prawns are fresh. Most importantly, a plate of noodles still comes with a side of fragrant, oily lard. Go in the early evening or be prepared to wait for at least 15mins.
