This is a review of a solo lunch at the Bah Kut Teh — Ipoh Hor Fun Stall(#01−66) in Albert Centre Food Market. The stall is well maintained. The staff was friendly enough. After ordering, the food was presented very quickly. Bak Kut Teh — They offer three sizes, I went for the large($ 8). I also ordered some youtiao. After all, can you have bak kut teh without it? This was a pretty good rendition of the dish. The broth was hearty. The pork ribs were tasty but there wasn’t a whole lot of meat on the ribs and they were a tad fatty. It was a rainy day and this was a very nice elixir to the rain. It is not the best bak kut teh on the island or probably even in the neighbourhood. But, as I dipped my youtiao into the broth, I wasn’t complaining. Cost: $ 9.50 Overall — If you are in the neighbourhood and desire the warm comfort of bak kut teh, you could do worse. It is certainly not a destination spot but they do serve a nice enough bowl of pork ribs and broth. (Albert Centre can be a bit of a gong show. By any standard, this is a large food centre. There are over 100 stalls. It is not particularly well-known for any of them. There are a lot of very affordable options though. The floors are often wet and slippery. During busy times be ready to wrestle with aunties for tables. Plus, in very busy times, the cleaning crew can’t keep up with things and many tables will be cluttered with trays and left-overs. In slower times, it can be quite pleasant.)
