This little café is the perfect spot for a quick casual work lunch on a busy day. Located quietly on the outskirts of Arab Street, B Bakery is a unique find amongst a sea of Mediterranean restaurants. On a nice day, you can sit outside and take in the weather over a cup of iced tea and a light salad. Aesthetically the restaurant is minimalistic, and has a slight homey touch with its open air bakery display. The Cinnamon Buns come highly recommended and are hard to resist, fresh out of the oven. Overall the food is good, with everything from Salads to Sandwiches, B Bakery is just the thing you need when looking for a change from the everyday.

Let me zoom in on the best things this café has to offer, namely the cinnamon buns($ 3), smoked duck salad($ 15) and the Tom Yum pasta($ 15). This eatery is the most affordable place i’ve eaten for the quality of pasta, which is top-notch and most ingenious. As aforementioned, their local-twist of Tom Yum pasta made with angel-hair pasta was to die-for. It was not overly-drenched with sauced, and not overly spicy either. Their cinnamon buns are simply magical, which explains why they are often sold out by the evening. It is not too sweet, and not too savoury, and has the right balance of flavouring. The flour used has to be magic dust, as the roll is fluffy but yet retains it’s doughy texture. I would buy a couple of these to freeze, so I can savour them the next day.* Words won’t do these affordable mouth-watering dises justice, you really just need to try it. *note: You need to freeze them to store at home or if you refrigerate them they need to be eaten by the next day. The owner says to nuke them for about 30sec before they are good to go.

Back when I used to work just opposite, I would pop down here for their Chicken Mayo Avocado sandwiches. They’re usually made on harder baguette type breads, and you can choose between white and brown, but they’re of quite substantial portions. On certain weekdays after 530pm, they usually had 30% off their pastries, and I remember the chocolate cake with much fondness. They’re so pretty and taste so, so good…

I initially came here a couple of years ago just to have dessert and tea. But over the years — they have spruced up their menu — and they are a full fledged restaurant now. They have salads, wraps, mains such as pasta and other grilled items. The décor is simple, the menu is simple — it’s very refreshing and has a nice feel to it. What I Love: The desserts. Their Sticky Date Pudding is something to die for. It’s probably the yummiest I’ve had ever. And for just $ 5. It’s SO inexpensive! If you have some tea and cakes, it’ll only set you back $ 10? Beats Starbucks! You need to look at their cakes menu — it will blow you away! What I Don’t Love: Their opening hours. They tend to close kinda early, like 6 or 7pm on certain days — which suck. But they open late on days nearing the weekend.

The lunch sets are pretty good. They tend to be some variation of pastas, salads and mains like rosemary chicken. Don’t bother with coffee. Service is spotty. Has always been. But it’s a cozy enough place that if you’re quite happy to be generally ignored, the food and desserts are good enough to make you want to come here often. Come here for the cakes, breads and biscuits. They’re quite something.
