Always happy to eat here as it’s not too pricey and they always get the cook on the steaks right. Helps that it’s right here in my neighbourhood. Love the options for sides. Kind of reminds me of the sides you get at Kenny Roger’s. My personal favourite is the steamed vegetables which brings down the guilt level of chomping on a perfectly cooked medium rare rib eye steak. They don’t have a large selection on the cuts of steak but it’s good enough cos they do it so well with the New York strip and Rib eye steaks. Will definitely come back again cos it’s such an easy option with fast service and fast billing.

I ate here with my family for dinner. Was a very enjoyable meal, the service was excellent and my son actually finished his dinner before anyone else. I had the New York strip steak and it was cooked perfectly(med-rare). The pricing was also very good value. Overall a great place to eat.

Disclaimer! I have do extremely high taste in steaks so don’t be discouraged by my review when consider trying this place. Yes, I am from NYC and I lived in Dallas and went to Kansas numerous times so I expect a lot from a steak house. And compared to what I have had, this place was okay. Then again, you ask yourself, «what can I expect from a country that doesn’t do BBQ or even have a cattle ranch?» Still, you expect a restaurant that specializes in steaks to make it at least decent. Oh and learn to make proper mac and cheese if you are going to put that on the menu! Disappointed! And they didn’t take my order right…

This is a review of lunch with a colleague at Astons Specialties near Marine Parade/Katong. Astons menu is definitely for meat lovers. The ambiance was clean, neat, and a little on the dark side(where we sat). There are some slight nods to a western theme. This was via some old style light fixtures and at least one large cowboy posters. There is lots of dark wood. The seating area is divided into two sections. They seem similar but there is more light in the section you enter from. The service was very attentive, professional, and polite. I got the sense they were always watching and on the ready if we required anything. The meal flowed at a nice pace. The food was good but not great. Honey Bourbon RIbs — The ribs were ok. One half of them were a bit on the dry side but the other half was better. They were not super tender but I wouldn’t call them tough. I ate them all. I think they should probably provide additional sauce on the sauce. Some ribs can hold up on their own but these were not in that class. You get to pick two sides from their list. I selected baked beans and a baked potato. The beans seemed to be straight out of a can and not even like the best straight out of a can baked beans. if they call me up, I can tell them a couple a quick steps to really bring these up a notch or two. The baked potato was well cooked. It was on the small side. It would be nice if they offered more toppings. I ate everything though. It was a decent and hearty lunch. Rib Eye Extra Cut — My colleague had the Rib Eye Extra Cut. I am not sure what was extra about it. The steak certainly did not very large. It looed good though. Receipt($ 45.30) — This is a bit over the average lunch budget. But we were there for meat and we were not holding back. I am sure there are more affordable ways to navigate their menu. But, I doubt this will ever be the spot for those on a super tight lunch budget. Overall — The service is very attentive. The food was decent. My lunch was certainly a large one. This is not a steak or rib lunch you are going to rave about but it will do the trick. The ambiance is clean with a touch of the old west but nothing over the top. If I had a meat craving for lunch, I would consider Astons again. i do not think it would make the cut for a dinner destination though.

The queues are horrendous. That said, I’ve patronized Astons for ages, beginning in ’06 even before it got popular and started mushrooming in coffee shops everywhere. Food is generally good for the price one pays, and I’m always gunning for the grilled fish. Go to sides are the corn cob — sweet, succulent, juicy! and potato salad. Washed down with iced tea and the wallet friendly price tag makes the queue almost worth it. That said, come earlier to snag a spot. Once you’re done, dessert options(or prata even) abound along the Katong stretch.

I’d put my money on Aston’s being one of the most value for money restaurants in town. They serve really decent western cuisine for a fraction of what you’d pay for in an upscale restaurant. Of course you don’t get the fancy plating and elaborate side dishes but what you get is simple, no fuss food which, most importantly, tastes good. Some dishes I would recommend are the chargrilled chicken, honey bourbon ribs and grilled fish with herbs. What’s more, they serve Mug rootbeer. If you’re on a budget and are looking for some decent food, then Aston’s could be your next stop.
