Nice pub, good beer. Friday Fat Tug IPA. Really enjoy the live music, it was kind of folk music, really good. Perfect service.

Horrible staff — we came for MNF and the bar staff ripped us off and then denied it even though it was on camera and they refused to review… Then… They moved us from a large table to outside to accommodate a large group which under rational circumstances is fine even though we have watched a half of football over two hours… Then — when we can’t get a table within view of football we are here to watch aaaannnnddd after being moved forcefully outside — their attitude is «finish your drinks and leave». Let’s get this straight… They’re rude! Food is awful! Service is awful! They kept 40% of the order and refused to give it back! They actually moved customers to make room for a group in the middle of a meal! Aggressive! Terrible food! They are just hopeless! NEVEREVERGOINGHEREAGAIN!!!

I used to go to Toby’s during my undergrad when it used to be a dingy pub on bloor street in toronto serving $ 2 shots of straight liquor. Fast forward a few years and it’s a chain now, with one on queen street in toronto and one on commercial drive in vancouver. Though the specials arent as great as the cheap shots, the beer isn’t bad and the ambiance isn’t bad either. I’m still trying to figure out if they have boardgames, when we went supposedly they were upstairs at the commercial drive location, but there was a party upstairs so we werent allowed up.

The waitresses here are horribly rude and this has happened whenever I’ve «had to come here» since my first time back in 2007 when I went there after softball games. Also, BECAREFUL with their bills because they will make mistakes, its happened MANY times. When confronted, they get upset so its like they’re trying to sneak in more to get more tip money. A few reviews already state situations like this. I was watching UFC with 2 friends last night and this is what happened with a waitress working upstairs on the balcony section facing the big screen TV. 1) One of my 2 friends said that when he was there a few weeks ago, the waitress only«told» him how much the bill was but never game him one. He didn’t really care but after he realized he paid about $ 10 more than he should have. 2) Then last night the waitress was so rude that my friend refused to tip her and she got mad. Then he offers $ 2 bucks and then she takes it and starts to walk away, only to come back and say«you know what, keep your $ 2 bucks». Then she walks away, turns around and comes back to bitch at him again saying that she’s never had this experience. Well if she wasn’t rude to begin with, this would have happened. 3) As for my case, I didn’t order a drink from her, I just went to the bar instead. No way I’m going to tip a person like that. Location is fine, good little cozy place, but after read this and the other reviews before you decide. I never make the effort of going here, just if there are friends that want to go, maybe an occasion, but the service here is horrible.

St. Augustines is wayy better! I’ve lived in the neighbourhood for 10 years and have come here and spent a lot of money here in the 10 years watching UfC, hockey games, I loved coming here after work for a nice meal and drink, I was pregnant and came for the wings and spinach salad. I hadn’t came here for over a year due to having a baby, and decided to go have a couple of drinks with friends when the waitress and manager where looking at me very nasty and wouldn’t come serve us. 10 mins they kept walking past us and wouldn’t come to our table until the waitress told me that I owed her money from 3 months previous to that night … She insisted and swore that i didn’t pay my bill and I ran down the street, she said she chased me down for my money. I never been so mad and humiliated in my life. We are hard working ppl and to have them treat me like that was aweful, I would never go out if I couldn’t afford my bill. What pisses me off I always tipped good to them waitresses too I think it was because of my skin colour

The food was amazing and our amazing bartender/server Ben was so friendly and attentive. I had a lemon drop martini which was so delicious and the mushroom ravioli which was also amazing. I would, and will, come back over and over for these two items and the service:)

I’ve been here three times. Once with my softball practice group, once with a girlfriend for a girls night out and then tonight on Valentine’s as a drink before the RIO burlesque show around the corner in 30 minutes. Yes. Doing it right. Anyhow all I ate last time was nachos and they were great. Drinks are tasty and well mixed. Check them out.

Toby’s has a good selection of drinks and friendly staff, especially the lady who has been working at the cash register in the liquor store. I like the atmosphere and the good service.

This is a review for the Liquor Store only… I’ve been here a few times after visiting Brewery Creek only to have them tell me they are out of what i’m looking for. Not surprising given how they go through volume, but I appreciate their willingness to point me in another direction. I can’t comment too much on the service at Toby’s other than to say it’s «fine». The cashier has been pleasant/nice. But I always know what i’m looking for so my trips are abbreviated and I’m never looking for advice. I haven’t noticed any salespeople available for advice giving though so I would venture to say you should know what you’re looking for here. BUT I do appreciate their stocking some harder to find local seasonals which makes me think I should look around a bit more next time. As the BC staffer mentioned, someone really likes good beer here and knows what they are ordering. I almost hesitated to review this because I wouldn’t mind it staying my go-to for the rare brew that is sold out elsewhere… alas, sharing is caring! you’re welcome.

I live around the corner from here, but rarely ever went into the actual pub until recently. Now that I’ve discovered that they have Fat Tug on tap, I will be visiting much more often. The space is huge, so it’s great if you’re with a small group OR a large group. They have a giant screen and several other small screens throughout the bar, so it’s a great place for watching sports. I’ve been for soccer and hockey games, and both the giant screen and the crowd did not disappoint. The servers are always friendly, and I have no complaints about the food, though usually I just stick to beer. St. Augustine’s has a much better beer selection, but I find the atmosphere there completely souless. Toby’s has a lot more personality, and so it makes for a better drinking atmosphere.

I really want to love this place. The location is great and the room is the same. Then I walk in and inevitably meet one of their employees, ah yes… now I remember why I don’t come here.

Good place to catch the game, have some beers and eat your standard pub food. Upstairs they have some big tables that are good for groups.

Not impressed. Slow service on not too busy night. 2 tables left. One had ordered drinks. They waited a long time, then left. It took another 5 min until server came and was dumbfounded that they departed. The other table went inside(we were on patio) twice asking for service but eventually moved on. Food was good. Thai Mussels. When she served them she put the food fat from us were we barely could reach and we had to re-position it ourselves. Drink quality of my GT was 2 star wine was nice, a Syrah blend.

If I could deliver a 0⁄5 rating I would! This place is TRYING to rip off its patrons. The first time it happened, I was out with a large group of friends. We had been drinking so when the bill came around and everyone had paid, we were confused by a remaining $ 60 owing on the bill. We chalked it up to drunken math and one of us paid the rest of the bill. A couple weeks later we were back. This time we only had one drink and when the bill came, we each circled what we had ordered. There were a couple of drinks on the bill that were never ordered. The server had also added gratuity, and even though we paid separately and each added tip to our own bill, she initially refused to remove the gratuity. There was also a mystery«service charge» of $ 30. When we asked her about the service charge, the server mumbled something about having to ask her manager. She came back with a corrected bill and magically the gratuity and service charge were removed. This place is counting on people to have a few drinks and not examine the bill too closely. With plenty of other great locations to grab a beer nearby, don’t go to Toby’s!

I would like this pub more if it didn’t advertise false prices on its website. $ 3 for Blue Buck on the website vs $ 4.60 in reality. This is blatantly illegal. Bartender just laughed and said the«prices changed yesterday». Let’s see what the BBB says.

I like Toby’s, it’s a good neighbourhood pub that is young and isn’t run down. I used to live in the area so I used to come here a lot, but my recent visit was less pleasant than usual. It was super busy and we were needing a table for 8. Being that it’s a seat yourself type of place, we found one table and noticed that the one beside had been billed so we asked if we could take it when they left, and it wasn’t a problem. The server didn’t like this(apparently one of each table was run by a different server, but thats not really our problem). So one table was being served, and my table was getting daggers from the second server. The service was super slow and very catty, our food was of a lesser quality than it usually is, and at one point the service was non existent, then the billing process was pretty bad. I have been here so many times and they usually deliver, so this was upsetting. I will be back, but if this is the direction that they’re going in I will have to find another pub as my go-to.

Finally had a chance to try the lower level. The area is pretty nicely set up, with a nice stage in the back. There is actually a small parking lot downstairs, with 10 or so spots. Bruschetta — amazing. They put just the right amount and mix of ingredients, and also got the right amount of toasting. Special mention. Nachos — also quite decent, thought the layering could use a bit of improvement. The chips at the bottom were glued to the paper. However, this also means that there isn’t a pile of grease from the cheese, so I will let this one slide. Upgrading my review to 4 stars.

Decided to go here after our plans to go to St. Augustine were botched because of the lineups. I will say upon arriving we were really impressed by the ambiance. We were there for the Canucks game so the projector came in handy. The waiter, although eventually sweet and apologetic, was pretty unprofessional and completely checked out. We shrugged it off and made light of the ditsy server. My friend’s steak came back overcooked so she brought it up next time the waiter came to check on us. These were the words that came out of his mouth: «Um well I can ask them to recook it, but I don’t think they’ll do it for you. You have to remember you’re at a pub on Commercial… I wouldn’t have such high expectations» She literally had to insist that she wasn’t going to pay for something that wasn’t cooked the way she asked. He made her feel like a bit of an idiot and the whole table got shifty eyed and uncomfortable with a look of «did he just say that??» on our faces. We were all completely stunned. He took her plate back and said he would speak to the cooks and try. He came back shortly after saying that he convinced them to do up another steak, but here’s your fries back because they refuse to make you new ones. He eventually admitted that the cooks were really mean to him and he hated asking them to do anything as a result. Long story short, the steak arrived and it was cooked right. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal(except the hot wings. no good), but it was not worth the bullshit we experienced by the service the whole way through. Could be a bad seed, but there are plenty other places i’d give my business to down the road.

This is a review for the liquor store. I guess it’s an OK place to pick up stuff quick if you’re in the area, but price wise, I prefer a BC Liquor Store. Wish I could’ve walked out but it’s not that big of a place and leaving empty handed would be noticeable to everyone so I just bit the price bullet. What I did not like is a situation they handled in front of me. There was a group of international male students, who kept asking about all the bottles behind the counter, holding up line. So they might have been annoying the workers. Then, most of the group left, leaving two to cover the purchases. I don’t know if the rest actually left or what, but the cashier wanted the entire group to show their IDs. The other guys had left so these guys who paid couldn’t buy the alcohol. There may have been the possibility that they were underage, so maybe that’s why they left the store? But if you knew you were going to ask for their IDs, why let them leave in the first place? But I doubt that the guys were underage because they’re international students, and I feel like they wouldn’t do that. Why would they try to blatantly break the law in a foreign country? Or am I just too naïve? Anyway, they didn’t ask for my ID. And I probably look like I’m 14. And then the two workers were talking crap about the group after they all left. Tacky. Hello, the rest of the store can hear you.

Been here for my birthday and my bf’s birthday. I have to say it’s a great place to hang out and grab some drinks. But I have to say this place is pretty sketchy. You meet a lot of very interesting people there. The servers there are pretty friendly. But I assume they recently hired a few new people. They aren’t as quick. They have a pool table upstairs for a bit of entertainment. On certain days of the week there’s like bands that play there. On wed I believe it’s karaōke night.
