We had a 60th birthday celebration for about 45 guests on a Sunday afternoon. Leading up to the event the communication with Alf was excellent. On the day, everything was perfect. Food, wines, service was exceptional. Our guests commented on it! Highly recommended.

This tucked away gem was a wonderful surprise. My husband and I stopped in for drinks and had a delicious pitcher of Peach Sangria. Loved the ski lodge décor. Cozy and inviting. We will certainly be back to explore their menu.

I really like this bar the food has always been exceptional. They also have a lot of GF and DF options. I had the squid with piccalilli peppers which I would highly recommend. The squid rings just melt in your mouth. The paprika flavour was perfectly balanced with the tomato and perfect amount of acidity. I also had the scallops with peach schnapps, pickled ginger and vanilla. When they arrived they looked amazing and the texture was perfect. I wasn’t 100 percent on the flavours they used tho. I will return as I’ve never been disappointed here.

The Cabin is a hidden gem, that makes an excellent first impression. Walking in the décor is rustic, seating plentiful and comfortable. Quickly shown to a table On the outdoor deck area, whilst the view isn’t spectacular it’s relaxing to be able to view the outside world. Service was plentiful, consistent and very friendly. Any questions had were answered, if not immediately very soon after. We went on a Tuesday night where the special is the beef short rib, which was what was recommended by our waiter– it did not disappoint! 3 massive short ribs smothered in a smokey BBQ sauce with the meat falling off the bone, exceptionally tender and flavoursome. Ordered the crispy potatoes on the side which were crisped to perfection. This first experience was exceptional, food and service could not be faulted and price point very good, only suggestion would be beer on tap

It had been many a year since I’d been to The Cabin after a lacklustre experience with poor service and average food. I’m glad my sister dragged me back there because it was by and far a completely different experience. On a busy Friday night the service was attentive, so attentive in fact they gave us complementary olives because they felt they had ignored us. $ 12 cocktails on a Friday? Yes please. There are four to choose from. My sisters opted for a French Martini that was on point and I had a Lavender Collins that was heavy on the lemon kick with an undertone of lavender. The food is designed to be shared but is to tasty to do so. Except the Snickers in Jar, that is one rich mousse dessert that not even the biggest peanut butter fan could conquer on their own.

I have nothing bad to say about The Cabin! Granted I was here mainly for the wine so I can’t comment on all their of choices, but a wine in the afternoon sun on their balcony was a wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon. I had a couple of glasses of delicious Mojo Shiraz in gorgeous large balloon wine glasses(made me feel very fancy) with a couple of girlfriends and people watched Scarborough Beach Rd. We decided to try out their pâté with chutney and toasts and it was to die for! Because that was so good we tried out the spicy potatoes with aioli and that didn’t disappoint either so I’ll definitely be back to try out their whole menu. Do yourself a favor and do the desserts as well, my god! The Snickers in a Glass is absolutely ridiculous! The ladies who served us were really friendly and very quick and efficient which made the experience even better. I can’t wait to go back and make my wine through their wine list!

We came here as a group of 15 on a Thursday night and the staff served us with ease and really made us feel welcome. Everything we ordered was delicious, and believe me when I say we ordered A LOT! Some highlights included: Pulled Turkey Tacos Blue Swimmer Crab balls Purple Carrots Roast Duck Sausage and beans Some of the girls also ordered deserts and from what I could see, the portions are massive, plenty of sugar to keep you going for the rest of the night. The cabin seems small from the outside but with the large covered verandah, it does not seem crowded and the décor is very well put together. I will definitely come back here, its just a pity that its not closer to a train line, because those single bottle wine glasses look very tempting.

This review is long over due as we went a few weeks ago, in saying that I can still remember the food, which is always a good sign! The place itself is small, but if you don’t mind cosy dinning I would recommend. The food was excellent, and packed full of winter warmers. I would certainly return.

I’d known about The Cabin Small Bar since it opened to rave reviews a couple of years ago. The«problem» we face in the rapid growth of Perth’s dining scene, is that there just simply are not enough meals in the week to go to each and every one of the new restaurants and bars. Believe me I’ve been giving it my best shot! Finally, espresso martini in hand, I found myself in the cosy ski lodge style cabin. You can sit indoors on a Chesterfield sofa(whilst being overlooked by a deer head) or outside on the wrap-around balcony. I loved the vibe of the Cabin. It was relaxed and a little funky. Beautiful wooden tables and retro fixtures are complimented by a very modern menu. The music playlist was very eclectic and we really enjoyed the mix of everything from The Beatles to 90s house music to the Smashing Pumpkins and other random tunes. The wine and cocktail lists were excellent. Chef Melissa Palinkas has created a menu of small and large plates which are designed to share. The wait staff are very knowledgeable. Without being prompted they will fill you in on whether each dish has enough for everyone on the table. They’re really on the ball and friendly too. We dined on a Wednesday, which was lucky for us. The Wednesday special was A — mazing! Roasted duck wings, sticky with a sweet n sour glaze, topped with crispy shallots & green onions were SOGOOD. Chicken wings? Don’t even bother! Duck wings are where it’s at! A plate was $ 22 and was accompanied with a bottle of Anchor Steam Lager. As a bunny lover I had never eaten rabbit before. Having them as pets when I was little, it just seemed wrong — like eating my Labrador. Chef has been trying to get me to give it a go for years and I finally gave into peer pressure. I enjoyed it. That said, the Southern fried rabbit, wasn’t as game-y as I had expected, since it was covered in herbs and spices too. It was served on a steamed bun with pickled carrot and a red curry mayonnaise($ 15) We shared about 6 dishes and left with full tummies — no room to even look at the dessert(for one) menu. Next time!

Fantastic. Drinks: I get the Red Fox. It’s good with or without mint added. :P Seriously could drink lots of these things. Kudos to the bartender/manager for coming up with that gem. Food: Keeping it classy. I’ve had the scallops, the trout salad, duck wings, chicken wings, and slider(without the beet). There’s not one thing that I wouldn’t order again. The scallops were my favorite, but you only get 4 for that huge price tag. The chicken wings were a better value and delicious. Atmosphere: Well decorated for the theme. It’s cozy and modern and rustic all at the same time. The tables are arranged in an intimate kind of way so that, even though the space is small and can feel crowded, I never felt others were intruding into our space. Service: The best. Which is rare in Perth. Efficient. Nice. Knowledgable. Great date night or girls night.

You get 4 stars because your wine list is sexy. Like that dirty, naughty, ripped Brad Pitt in Fight Club kind of sexy. It’s seriously not fair to look that like that and I can’t touchy touchy. …I’m sorry, what was I talking about? The wine list and Cabin Bar. Right. Back on track. For real, the wine list is a stunner. Order Joel’s Zinfandel and prepare to be amazed. It’s bangin’ and it should be because it’s from California! The food, while hefty in price, is yummy. The venison sliders? Stupid good. The scallops? Heaven. The service, despite being packed, was awesome. I’ll be back for everything!

On a busy Saturday night we couldn’t get a last minute table at any of the six other restaurants we called. We then stumbled upon The Cabin Bar. By the end of the night, we were glad the other restaurants were booked! A beautiful wrap-around second story porch overlooks the rooftops of Mount Hawthorn and the setting sun. Inside is cozy cabin décor with wooden furniture, floors, and walls, and paintings of Northern hemisphere cabins on gorgeous lakes, reminiscent of the upper Midwest in the US or Canada. The cocktail menu included a variety of interesting choices and there were a variety of wines to select from. The server helped me pick a cocktail that wasn’t too sweet. The olives were fresh and flavorful and the venison slider was definitely a guilty pleasure – my husband ordered one, but I passed. I won’t make that mistake again! Another notable item on the menu was the fig salad with thick-sliced pan seared bacon. The greens were fresh and crisp and the vinaigrette was light and brought out the flavors of the salad. The figs were a bit tasteless, but all in all it was a really enjoyable salad. The slow-cooked chuck was scrumptious, although next time I’ll ask for it without the caramelized onion. The lamb tacos were executed well, just a bit bland for my taste. All and all, a great little place for a cozy dinner overlooking the sunset with a loved one. I’m a fan!

We went to The Cabin to meet some work friends in the afternoon at the end of winter. The open brick interior gives off the coolest vibe. It’s like you’re drinking in some rich hunters cabin deep in the forest. What really stood out for us was the quirky owner. A super friendly and polite guy. He almost seemed a bit shy but always determined to make sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time. It was an odd but really endearing characteristic! They’ve got a solid win list and a really decent range of beers. I hate going to bars that only have the standard beers on tap. Their cider range is a bit disappointing, hopefully they expand it for summer. There’s some cool tapas– their sweet potato chips and aioli is awesome! They’re located upstairs but have a wheelchair lift as well which came in handy for us. Again the owner went out of his way to help us with the lift. The Cabin is another good find on the Perth bar scene and has a dedicated owner who really cares about his patrons.

Came here for Brekkie and it was pretty average! Had the roma tomatoes and avocado on toast with mozzarella. Toppings very light on and flavour was lacking. Super cute place and perfect for winter. but perhaps better just for drinks!

The Cabin is hidden above a gift shop on Scarborough Beach Rd. European ski lodge décor makes this place a cosy place to hang out in winter. Animal skulls, wooden panels and exposed brick give this place a definite style. In summer it is a little disconcerting for me, especially on Perth’s hottest days. The menu is on the brief side for food. The food tasty, but a little on the small and expensive side. Their bar has a lot more choice for wine, drinks and beer. This is a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy a drink in winter.

The Cabin is a nice little surprise within Mount Hawthorn’s largely retail area. Sitting nicely above a gift store on Scarborough Beach Road, the cabin is accessed via a side street and up some stairs(wheel chair access available). I went there one early Saturday evening to find a few people about, so the atmosphere was nice and relaxing in the summer sunshine. We were promptly greeted at the door, shown our seats, and invited to peruse their modest menu. The décor is seriously cool and the main draw card here. Just like the name connotes, this bar is channeling a definite woodlands theme, complete with tables that resemble tree stumps, and walls adorned with wall paper to look like a forest enclosure. The reindeer skulls put me off slightly, but the rest of their fittings are so pleasing to the eye that this vegan will let it slide. Unfortunately, I feel as though the interior is the best thing about this place. My espresso martini did make my taste buds throw a rave, and their food was tasty, or so my friend tells me(roasted Ciabatta with Romanesco evoo, FYI), but there were no gluten free or vegan options and portion sizes were small. Also, I understand that wood fire cabins are warm and cozy, but this joint seriously needs air con installed. Nevertheless, it’s a special place for an intimate drink and a light meal.

I adore this place: aesthetically especially. It makes me think of, yes, a cosy log cabin on some ski resort in Scandanavia, but with an Aussie twist. When you’re done browsing the hardcover books scattered across sturdy wooden tables, check out the menu and choose from an array of premium local wines and delicious-sounding cocktails. I’ve yet to try a meal here but it all looks good, and the waiter promised its mostly WA produce on the list. At first I thought this place might suffer in the summer months, what with its cosy, wintry connotations, but I’ve driven by since first dropping in, and have seen quite a few people still outside enjoying watching the sunset down the end of Scarborough Beach Road. So a good venue to frequent all-year round and I’ll definitely be back this summer.
