Cafe am Neuen See

Location ist fantastisch, leider ist die Attitüde des Personals aber extrem nervig. Das ständige angequatscht werden, ob man denn tatsächlich hier sitze/​reserviert habe, noch was trinken/​essen wolle, vergessene Bestellungen, falsche Sachen gebracht inkl. Viel zu voll, viel zu hektisch, sehr unpersönlich. Ich komme eigtl ungern

Great place at a great location!
Especially during summer, it is really great to sit outside and drink your bier just next to the lake. And maybe after, rent a boat and have a silent lake tour with friends.
Restaurant is a little bit price but for special occasions, it’s my #1 restaurant to go.
You have to try pizzas they make.

Flammkuchen und Burger okay, letzteres Patty sicherlich etwas dick (gleich einer Bulette) — geschmacklich aber gut, volle Punktzahl. Abzüge beim Brötchen: Frisch ist anders.
Das Debakel dann beim Dessert: Der Apfelstrudelteig wenig speziell, beim Topfenknödel war die Lebkuchensoße eine Vanillesoße, nach Reklamation mit «dezent» Lebkuchen. Das ist nicht das, was auf der Karte steht! Und der Restaurantmanager schien aus meiner Sicht wenig Verständnis für die Reklamation zu zeigen. Der nächste Schnitzer: Das Erdbeereis! Sämige, schleimige Stückchen, die auf jeden Fall nicht frische Erdbeerstückchen waren … — eher altes Eis aus der Sommersaison!
Fazit: Hier profitiert ein Restaurant von der exklusiven Premiumlage, vergisst unterwegs aber scheinbar — so mein Eindruck und meine Meinung — das Wohl seiner Gäste.

Starting out with a positive: the ambience is lovely. The location is magical in the tiergarten.
Ok that’s it. Now on to the real:
The wait staff ignored us for a solid 20 minutes when we first sat down. When we finally flagged the old guy down, he pointed at my coffee that I didn’t have the chance to throw out and demanded I put it in my bag. Great start to the night right? Total pompous ass and unlike any other wait staff I’ve encountered during my time in Berlin. I thought we were being punked.
The food was good but very overpriced. And there were 4 beers on the menu at the BIERGARTEN…
Skip this place.

Wenn man reserviert (allerdings nur dann!), kann man im Café am Neuen See einen entspannten Sonntag Vormittag verbringen — gutes Frühstück, tolle Pizza, schönes Ambiente — neuerdings sogar mit Kaminfeuer. Die Kellner sind allerdings überfordert, sobald es etwas voller wird (was am Sonntag immer der Fall ist) — und die Hipster-​Eltern lassen ihre Kinder oft schreiend durchs Café rennen. Wer mit diesen Minuspunkten leben kann, wird die gemütliche Atmosphäre mit Kerzenschein und Blick auf den Neuen See zu schätzen wissen…

Great view and great location by the see.
This is a nice beer Garten that serves a variety of dishes.
It’s true that it’s pricey (4,4 € for the beer) and the service isn’t good when it’s full. But still, it’s a nice place to go on a warm summer day after a bike ride. Cheers!

Naja, ich habe das Café am neuen See über die Jahre immer malwieder besucht und bin zwischen 2 und 4 Sternen. Einen wirklich gemütlichen und urigen Abend hatte ich dort im Drinnenbereich des Restaurants, ich nenne es mal das Kaminzimmer (bevor man zu den Toiletten abbiegt. Das ist, wenn es Abend wird sehr gemütlich, seit das Café umdekoriert wurde und einen Almhüttencharme hat mit viel Holz etc. Es gab vor den Pizzen als Vorspeise vollautomatisch ein sehr toll gebackenes «Hüttenbrot» mit einer tollen Quarkcreme. Das war wirklich toll.
Leider ist aber bei allen anderen Besuchen der Service und auch das essen grenzwertig gewesen. Diskussionen mit den überforderten Kellnern, das nicht bestellt aber geliefert wurde, noch halb gefrorene Himbeeren auf dem Ziegenkäsesalat und im Außenbereich eine schlechte Bedienung, die fast nie kam.
Ich empfehle aber grundsätzlich die Pizzen, die schön groß sind und wenn man etwas Zeit und Geduld mitbringt kann das auch was werden.

Ganz nett, aber total auf Massenabfertigung getrimmt. Wahrscheinlich muss das bei der Größe so sein.
Ok, für die nervigen Wespen könnten die nix. Die Pizza war hauchdünn und gut, alternativ gab es bayrische Biergartenkost.

Küche wird leider immer schlechter. Heute angebrannte Pizza. Aufgrund der Massen von Menschen hatten wir auch nicht wirklich Lust, noch mal an zu stehen wegen einer neuen.

Netter Biergarten mitten in der Stadt. Super Atmosphäre. Essen leider sehr touristisch. Tische klebrig. Zum Bsp rucolasalat mit Tomate Olive und Avocado. 8,50. Mega kleine Portion. 3 Scheiben Tomate 3 Oliven kleingeschnitten und né viertel Avocado. Wer ein Bierchen trinken will mit Freunden ist hier richtig aber lecker essen geht anders.

Naja, wir waren im Rahmen einer größeren Veranstaltung dort. Leider hat das Wetter überhaupt nicht mitgespielt, so dass ich das Ambiente nicht bewerten will. Das Personal war meiner Meinung nach jedoch überfordert, Bestellungen mussten diesem fast aufgedrängt werden. Die Organisation rund um das Essen lief sehr schleppend.

I would give this two stars, but the ambience is so lovely it brings it up to three. We ordered two pizzas and some wine. The wine was OK — it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The pizza was not good — the ingredients on top of the pizza were fresh and good, but the crust was like a giant, flaky cracker. Like thin crust gone wrong. It had no tender chew; it actually felt like you were trying to eat a pizza composed of 4 giant crackers that disintegrated any time you picked them up or bit them. I also did not like the tomato sauce they used — it had a weird, metallic flavor that I found off-​putting.
If I went again, I would opt to go to the self-​service food stands across the way. I’m not sure if it’s affiliated with Café am Neuen See. The food looked comparable (not sure how the prices compare) and you still get the stunning ambience of the water, the lights strung across tables, and greenery all around.

Ich finde die Location an sich schon echt überragend, so mitten im Tiergarten. Da kann man nicht nur entspannt an sonnigen Tagen chillen sondern auch ein bisschen mit Boot rumtouren. An der Location ist also nix auszusetzen aber was einem finanziell abverlangt wird, wenn man sich dazu einen netten Snack gönnen möchte, ist etwas übertrieben.

Eigentlich gut. Leider gibt’s kein Public Viewing mehr. Nur in einem kleinen abgesperrten Bereich nur mit Reservierung. Deshalb Punktabzug. Keine gute Entwicklung.

Die Aussicht und das Flair ist toll, vor allem an warmen Tagen mit Blick auf den Teich :) jedoch spricht das Preis — Leistungsverhältnis nicht für sich.

I enjoyed it. I ate there at a company dinner. Nice location, very pleasant, tucked away. Buffet food was grilled outside — lots of choices — had a bit of everything. I would go back.

Das Café am neuen See ist keine Oase in der Servicewüste Deutschland. Gut gelegen am Tiergarten, zieht das Café viele Menschen an. Auch der Eindruck drinnen, recht voll und wuselig. Von 2 Kellnern zum Mann mit dem scheinbaren Überblick geschickt, bekamen wir einen Tisch. Nicht abgewischt und ohne Karten. 20 min später kein Kellner in Sicht. Einzelne Kellner passierten den Tisch, Chaos, meist verwirrt und die Arbeit nur halb erledigend. Der Manager eher im Gespräch mit Tischen von schönen Damen vertieft. Direktes ansprechen und bestellen waren nötig um nach einer Weile die halbe richtige Bestellung zu erhalten. Nach dem Verzehr von dem wenig einfallsreichen Kuchen, bezahlten und gingen wir.
Was bleibt? Ein schlechtes Gefühl und der Eindruck, wenig für wenig erhalten zu haben. Mehr Struktur schadet nicht. Personal sollte mehr nach Fähigkeiten als nach aussehen eingestellt werden.

Decent but pricy tiergarten café. Nice in the summer, but very crowded when the weather is good. We tried a pizza which was crispy and good to eat, but not worth the 10 euros we paid for it. Take a walk to the water afterwards and walk next to the zoo towards bahnhof zoo, have a look at the animals, super nice! This won’t be your regular summer hotspot though, Berlin has better to offer. One time only!

Das Café ist direkt und schön am See gelegen und erinnert an einen zünftigen Biergarten. Leider bemerkt man schnell, dass das Café nur von Lauf-​Kundschaft und Touristen lebt. Somit werden die Kassen gefüllt auch wenn die Kundschaft unzufrieden und der Service miserabel ist.
Bei unserem letzten Besuch, bestellte ich einen Frühstücksteller und meine Schwester eine Lasagne. Unsere Getränke wurden vergessen und kamen erst nach 60 Minuten und auch nur nach mehrmaliger Aufforderung.
Zu meinem Frühstück wurde mir kein Teller gereicht. Nachdem der Kellner nochmal darum gebeten wurde, antwortete er sehr unfreundlich, dass es hier keine Teller für das Frühstück gebe. Seltsam, dass ein Restaurant angeblich keine Teller hätte.
Wir sprachen einen weiteren Kellner an und der sprach zwar kein Wort mit uns, aber brachte mir den gewünschten Teller recht schnell. Nur leider war dieser verschmutzt. Also wurde dann doch aus der Hand gegessen, da die Kellner sichtlich genervt waren von uns, sparten wir uns eine erneute Ansprache.
Die Lasagne war geschmacklich ok, aber leider kalt.
Insgesamt sind wir eigentlich sehr genügsame Gäste und entschuldigen auch schnell die Kellner, wenn viel los ist und es etwas länger dauert. Aber unfreundlich behandeln lassen wir uns nun auch nicht. Das Highlight war der «Augenrollende» Kellner, weil wir kein Trinkgeld gaben. Daraufhin sagte meine Schwester ganz direkt zum Kellner, dass sie sehr gerne Trinkgeld geben würde, wenn sie nicht so maßlos enttäuscht gewesen wäre. Leider ließ das den Kellner völlig kalt und er ging einfach.
Dort werden wir nie wieder hingehen und uns lieber einen schönen Picknick-​Korb in den Park mitnehmen. Oder in das Restaurant unter der S-​Bahn Brücke gehen.

Ich war im Winter hier. Alle Kamine waren an und somit war es schön warm. Wir haben Kuchen gegessen und Kaffee getrunken. Das normale Restaurant ist relativ teuer (Hauptgerichte zwischen 10 – 18 €). Ich vermute, dass der Biergarten günstiger ist. Die Atmosphäre ist auf jedenfall super!

Ein Stern für die Lage des Restaurants. Mehr ist der Laden leider nicht wert. Unorganisiert und von Service kann man bei Gott nicht sprechen. Echt schade!

Ein Stern gilt für den herrvorragenden Ausblick. Noch eins für die gemütliche antiquarische Innenaustattung, antike Sepiaporträts und allerlei Holzstühle, ein Kamin in der Mitte. Und schliesslich eins für den Biergarten direkt am Seeufer — einzig– und grossartig. Das Essen ist doch enttäuschend: zwar gross und ziemlich knüsprig, die Pizza hatten jedoch fast keinen Geschmack (auch der Basilikum-​Pesto, was ich gedacht hätte, nicht möglich sei) bzw. einen komischen Geschmack (Gorgonzola und Spinat, da stimmt etwas nicht). Der Service ist auch mittelmässig: obwohl umgänglich, der Kellner hat sich schnell verschwunden.
Na ja, letztenendes geht man dorthin weil es richtig AM SEE ist, wahr? Der Ausblick wäre fantastich sogar im Winter, danke den riesigen Vitrinen (etwa ein Leitmotif für mich heutzutage… P103!) und warmer Innenatmosphäre.

Often at times when you don’t have a lot of choices, you are paying for the view. Luckily though it does have some good qualities.
Went in for a lunch and had plated food, as opposed to just some simple pizza or sandwich. The pork cutlet is actually very solid, but a little overdone. It’s covered in a great mushroom gravy, some nice grilled vegetables and a sort of bread pudding. As I walked through the restaurant I saw a rotisserie chicken oven, and I rarely order chicken but asked if that was on the menu. It was and I ordered it.
As for the roasted chicken, pollo la brassa this is not. Bland, even with a squirt of lemon, but luckily with some flavor as the cavity was stuffed with herbs, garlic and lemon. What was killer though was the really good slaw that was served on the side, it had a fantastic pickled flavor with mixed caraway seeds in it that gave it a very unique taste. It was the highlight. Luckily though the chicken wasn’t dried out like a brick.
Service is standard European moderately slow, as to be expected. The waiter though was cordial, spoke English and could easily answer any questions.
The food though is a bit pricey, but you are paying to also sit by the water in a real nice spot. Disappointingly though the beer selection here is very small, only with one Andesch Vollbier (the highlight), 3 Konig items, and 1 Kindl. I would hardly call this a biergarten, but there is one place outside that serves with benches closer to the water if that’s what you want instead.
Not amazing, but not terrible either, order strategically and with simpler items and you will probably do fine. But one visit is enough for me, with nothing to ache me to come back. But I wouldn’t tell anyone not to ever go there.

An sich sicherlich kein schlechter Ort. Bei unserem Besuch heute Mittag leider total überlaufen, die Platzeinweiserin (oder wie man das nennt) scheiße unfreundlich wenn man es milde ausdrückt und draußen Wespen ohne Ende. OK, Wespen kann man kaum beeinflussen. Das Personal kann mal einen schlechten Tag haben aber sowas habe ich noch nie erlebt. Schade.
Einen zweiten Versuch will ich aber zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt nicht ausschließen. Schließlich waren wir auf Empfehlung hier.

The food was fresh, simple and good. The service was poor but I find this to be almost invariably true in Berlin (not rude just lacking). We were there for a 15 person work dinner which they easily accommodated in advance with a set menu and wine. Especially magical at night and famines w/​kids were there so seems a great option for nearly anyone.

The first thing one notices about this beer garden is its superb location. Nestled in Berlin’s Tiergarten, this café looks over a small lake. It is especially pleasant to sit outside and take in the view while eating a delicious pizza, washed down with a drink, which doesn’t have to be beer. In fact, this café’s non-​alcoholic drink selection is impressive to any temperance-​minded patron. The Café am Neuen See is definitely recommended, despite its relatively slow service and somewhat pricey menu.

This is a wonderful beer garden in a corner of the Tiergarten very near the Zoo & Kurfuerstendamm shopping district. I visited a total of 5 times during my recent trip to Berlin, it was that good. I should qualify that my hotel was only a five minute walk. Still this is a really great place to relax, have a beer (or other drinks) and some food if you are in this area of the city. It is actually worthy of being a primary destination and meeting point while in Berlin
I first learned about Café am Neuen See during my first visit to the city a few years back. The concierge at my hotel made the recommendation when I asked about beer gardens and said this is where Berliners go. Not only do they have a very nice beer garden area around a portion of the lake (Neuer See) that is serve yourself, but also they have a full restaurant with outdoor terrace service. I eat on the terrace on my earlier trip and the service and experience was excellent.
In addition to the beer, their food is very good. Beyond the traditional «German» options they make very nice pizzas and salads with many options. I had both this past visit and would recommend anything based on all I sampled. Their pizza seemed very popular based on what I witnessed during each of my visits. I really loved their pretzels, wonderfully soft inside which isn’t lost on this Philadelphian. They are freshly cooked and can go fast if the place is crowded. More then once the basked was empty when I returned for a refilled. They serve beer from the Lowenbrau brewery in Munich as well as some wine and soft drink options. This is in the self serve pavilion as I am sure the restaurant has a few more options for both food and drink.
The setting near the park is wonderful and this garden would be popular in any city in Germany, even Munich! I didn’t try it but there were row boats on the one side if you wished to experience the lake first hand. They also had a large TV set up (special events) at the one end of the beer garden for World Cup viewing. There was a very good crowd for the 2014 kick-​off from Brazil one of the nights I visited. I can only imagine the large crowds if Germany were playing?
If it is a nice day and you are looking to relax, I really can’t think of a better location. I will definitely make it a point to visit again the next time I am in Berlin. Prost!

I went 2 times and both times the service was terrible. The servers have no idea what they are doing. So disorganized, it’s a shame since the location is ideal. The owner needs to hire a professional staff, not his children with no service experience.
I really wanted to love this place since it’s in a perfect setting, but the long wait to get a menu, even order food and drinks was just outrageous.
Time for new management.

This place is a joke.

Incredible terrace with a lovely pond and hanging lights. Perfect for a romantic dinner or birthday celebration. The pizza was delicious and not terribly expensive.

Geht hier NIEMALS Frühstücken!!! Aber zuerst einmal, die Bedienung war wirklich nett.
Leider war es das dann auch mit den guten Nachrichten. Wir (6 Personen) wollten ein Frühstück Essen und bekamen nur Dreck. Ja, nur Dreck. Das fasst es wirklich am Besten zusammen.
Die Karte bietet 3 – 5 verschiedene kleine Frühstücke und 2 Sorten von Frühstücktellern für je 2 Personen. Diese Menüs für 19, — bzw. 22, — Euro wurden bestellt, genauso wie ein Rührei.
Es kam ein großer hässlicher Pizzateller mit folgenden Auflagen:
— Zwei Ecken Ananas (3x5cm)
— Zwei Ecken Wassermelone (3x6cm)
— eine gehälftelte Scheibe knüppelharter, trockener Mozzarella (ca. 1,5 cm dick)
— Zwei geteielte Radieschen
— Je Drei Ministicks Sellerie, Gurke, Karotte (Durchmesser = 0,5 cm, Länge = 5cm)
— Eine Halbe Scheibe trockener Wacholder-​Kochschinken
— eine zerrissene halbe Scheibe Schinken
— ein ausreichend großes Stück Gorgonzolla
— In der Mitte ein Fingerhut großes Glas mit teelöffelmenge Müsli und drei daumennagelgroßen Stückchen Apfel und Orange
–Dazu Butter im Glas und zwei Konfitüren in der Konsistenz eines Saftes
Brot gab es ausreichend. Der Kaffee war lauwarm und dauerte bei ¼ vollem Lokal knapp 18 Minuten pro Bestellung. Unsere männliche Studentenbedienung war wirklich mehr als bemühmt und freundlich, konnte aber die unglaublich schlechte Qualität des Essens nicht auffangen.
Wirklich alles, außer dem Obst, war vertrocknet und schmeckte scheußlich. Sogar der 4cl Wodka wurde Urinwarm serviert, genauso wie der Prosecco. Die Beschwerde bei der Chefkellnerin brachte uns absolut nichts und wir gingen mit einer 130, — Euro Rechnung mit leeren Magen gleich weiter zum Mittagstisch in Charlottenburg.
FAZIT: Trinkt ein teures Bier im Biergarten und geht wieder. Qualität, Menge und Preis stehen vollkommen außer Verhältnis zueinander. Hier scheint es nur noch um Profitmaximierung ohne Kundenbindung zu gehen. Meine Empfehlung ist dann doch ein Biergarten gleich um die Ecke an einer Schleuse.

Love love love! The venue is beautiful. The beer selection is good. The food selection is on the fancier end of traditional German fare. There’s also a DJ (well, it’s Berlin, of course there is). But this DJ set up is special: the DJ sits on the top of what looks like a lifeguard stand, floating on a boat. Service is the typical German speed 9which means you may have to ask for something twice, but that’s ok).
This place is good when you’re hanging out with friends, going on a first date, or taking your parents out for a lovely afternoon. Pair it with a trip to the zoo or a leisurely walk through the Tiergarten for a super amazing day.

The location is great and it’s your typical Biergarten by a lake. There are two areas, one with waiter service, and the other cafeteria style. We chose the more casual self serve, but most of the help behind the counters were unbelievably nasty and grumpy. Perhaps they too wanted to relax on this hot summer day. In any case they only get 4 stars for that. Food is good. I’d say a bit above standard. By all means check it out if you’re in the area and the weather is good. Just don’t expect a quiet moment. It gets thronged with crowds.

Je suis allé au Café am neuen See avec ma femme et
mes deux enfants pour y dîner. C’était une nuit en aout, donc les serveurs
avaient les mains prises, pourtant ils étaient très professionnels, car ils ont
trouvé une place pour nous après cinq minutes. Les enfants ont mangé la pizza
(bruschetta) et pour ma femme et moi, le Flammekuchen était
parfait. Quant au vin, mon choix
du Usprung 2010 s’est révélé très bien. Même si je né suis pas un
grand amateur du vin allemand.

See, mon regard s’est
posé sur mon plat qui arrive en ce moment-​là. J’ai commandé une
pizza
bruschetta avec un verre de Riesling. Il faisait super froid
pendant cette nuit
mais heureusement l’intérieur du restaurant était bien chauffé
par la grande
cheminée. J’ai bien apprécié cette intimité quand j’ai mangé car
aucune
personne du personnel né m’a dérangé. Apparemment, les alentours
du Tiergarten
sont très populaires parmi les familles parce que j’ai vu
plusieurs joueurs de
hockey sur le lac et des enfants faisant de la luge avec leurs
papas. Pour moi,
ce restaurant était génial pour une nuit tranquille pour être
tout seul et
regarder les activités autour du lac.

Nice view, ok pizzas and flamkuchen (something like a pizza without tomato but lots of onions), very friendly service, nice and cosy fireplace but don’t sit too close to it, because it’s getting hot in here, way too hot.
All in all a nice place to go with friends after a walk in the park, especially now that it is getting cold outside.
