Besser als manches Cabaret, ideal zum trockenen Geschäftsessen, wenn wie heute schon mittags was los ist.
Ach ja so schlecht ist das Essen dann auch wieder nicht, beliebt bei jung u. alt das legendäre Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat.

Die Karte wechselt in regelmäßigen Abständen. Manchmal wenig Auswahl. Steak ist hier eher nicht zu empfehlen, dafür das Schnitzel und die Scampi. Manche Gerichte sind etwas ölig. Sonderwünsche werden nicht so gerne gesehen. Leider immer sehr dunkel. Kerzen auf den Tischen wären ganz nett

Sehr fancy Location aber das Essen ist sein Geld wert. Man sollte sich aber auf jeden Fall schick machen.

Totale Touristenabzocke:
Mein Freund und ich wollten uns zwischen den Feiertagen mal etwas gönnen und waren danach sehr enttäuscht. Es wurde uns drei Mal das falsche Essen gebracht. Sodass man nicht einen Gang zusammen genießen konnte. Eine Wiedergutmachung gab es nicht nur eine labidare Entschuldigung und Lügen des Kellners. Auf den musste man auch stets warten. Wir waren sehr lange da aber nicht weil es uns gefallen hat, sondern weil die Bewirtung so langwierig und unprofessionell war. Das Essen war nur lauwarm und nicht spektakulär also Preisleistung stimmt nicht.

Had a prime steak cooked to perfection! The Kenya green beans and the tiny tomato salad with an amazing sauce was Devine! Wife had potatoes and spinach with olive oil that were sensational.
The capper was our waiter Jeremy. Wonderful person, extremely helpful!!! I told him we preferred a lightly sweet wine, not the dry, the Germans seem to prefer. He brought my Wife and I a small demitasse glass with a white German wine that was perfect!
We liked the meal and wine so much we may go again tonight!
The only draw back is it is not cheap. If you want Devine food go. If you want fast and cheap look elsewhere!

Nach wie vor eine Bank, wenn es um die Qualität des Essens geht. Das Rinderfilet war auf den Punkt genau Medium. Meine Frau hatte Austern, nach ihrer Aussage die besten, die sie bisher gegessen hat. Service und Atmosphäre top, wie immer.

Ein phantastisches Restaurant! Von vielen Promis besucht, sehr beliebt bei Geschäftsleuten, Politikern, Journalisten, Schauspielern… Aber das Entscheidende: eine absolute Top-​Qualität beim Essen und den Getränken!!! Die Klassiker: Wiener Schnitzel (riesig, sehr dünn) und Leber Berliner Art. Unbedingt probieren. Salate, Tagesgerichte, Weine… ich wurde noch nie enttäuscht.
Im Innenhof sehr nette Terrasse.
Das alles hat natürlich seinen Preis. Aber bisher hat sich jeder Cent gelohnt!!!

I would give it one star but the food was good, especially the schnitzel. With that said, it was the worst service I ever had. Our waiter had a disgusting, arrogant attitude towards all the tables he served. Many other places in the area have comparable food, if not better. Don’t waste your time and money at this dump.

Das beste Wiener Schnitzel!
Ich liebe den ‘altmodischen Service’, heisst: gute Manieren, aufmerksam, doch unaufdringlich!
Auch allein als Frau, auch wenn ich kein ‘bekanntes Gesicht’ bin.

Das Borachardt in Berlin ist bekannt. Daher rein da und ausprobieren warum. Wir hatten einen Tisch für zwei zu 22.15 Uhr bestellt und zu dieser Zeit war es immernoch sehr voll. Der Tisch war sehr klein aber wir hatten Glück, dass die Gäste neben uns bald gegangen sind. So konnten wir noch den weiteren Platz nutzen. Vorallem wenn man dir riesen Schnitzel bestellt reicht der winzige Tisch nicht zum Essen.
Bis wir jedoch bestellen konnten dauerte es sehr lange, da uns die Bedienung nicht gesehen hat oder wollte. Irgendwann hatten wir es dann geschafft zu bestellen. Viel Beratung haben wir leider nicht erhalten, bei einem Restaurant dieser Klasse sollte das aber definitiv der Fall sein. Unser Essen und unsere Getränke wurden dann aber sogar ziemlich schnell serviert. Und das Schnitzel war definitiv sehr lecker.
Zweiter negativer Aspekt ist, dass hier anscheinend ab 22.30Uhr sein geraucht werden darf, was sehr unangenehm ist, wenn man Nichtraucher ist und noch isst.
Insgesamt ist das Borachardt schon einen Besuch wert, vorallem wenn man Lokale Bekanntheiten sehen möchte. Der Service sollte sich aber noch verbessern.

Before visiting Berlin, I read about Borchardt in few travel blogs. Sounded good. The concierge at my hotel had trouble getting me in, but did for late meal, so I assumed I was in for good meal. But then I read some reviews from my fellow Unilocalers and read some fairly negative comments… I should have paid attention to the warning as I would have saved my wife and I the experience of an awful meal, loud pretentious crowd and poor service, all for a very hefty price. We each had the Schnitzel as that seem to be the thing, and though I’m not big on fried, breaded meat… when in Berlin, we had to do it. It was horrible. It was BIG, i’ll say that, but unless your taken with «super sized» portions, you should expect sub par, flavorless food. The salad was «OK», but essentially boring, overly sweet dressing. In the states this food would be found in cafeteria, not fine dining experience. The following day we had lunch at the food court in KaDeVe. Albeit this is beautiful food court, but you do help yourself and pay in line… my daughter had the Schnitzel and it was truly amazing. Didn’t hold a candle to Borchardt… this is just to offer a little perspective. If you want a scene, loud, scene out of an old movie in Berlin, then maybe you would enjoy the experience, if your not foodie and don’t care about the food.

Nice big open room with beautiful table settings. Tomato consommé was divine, and the Arctic Char filet with lentils and fennel was excellent. Refined updates on the classics. Friendly service.

A place to be seen — as I was told. This is a favorite restaurant of one of Germany’s chancellors. Hoards of celebrities, politicians and anyone who’s important or famous can be found dining here. One doesn’t come to borchardt for the food but to dine among Germany’s elites. Normally I don’t really care about such a place but my friend insisted we visit while we’re here for Fashion Week so I obliged.
She was right in that the food wasn’t anything special. I ordered a few sides of vegetables and a blueberry tarte. I didn’t like any of the items I ordered. The restaurant is beautifully decorated though. We sat out in the back yard with a clear plastic roof. It started to rain while we were dining and that was really cool!
Once again, a place to visit if you’re touring Berlin.

Had lunch today here. The food and the décor was great, but the service felt rushed and detached. I know that Berliners appreciate efficiency, but I was by myself at a table, and the server’s area was not terribly busy. He was visibly impatient when I asked him if the «Plat du jour» came with a salad (it was pheasant on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts). It, in fact, came with it. The pheasant was delicious but it was just a leg (the bird is smallish). I also found the price of the wine list high (glasses of 0.1 ml servings were around 6 – 9 Euros). The coat check/​maitre d’hôtel also was efficient but rushed. With some attention to service and less emphasis on turning tables, and more reasonable portions of food and drink, this could have been a 5 star review.

Its always my «must go» place in Berlin. A blend of french café, a bit of fashinist depending on the season, but always goid service and good foid! Make sure to ask for the schnitzel!

Bei McDonalds kommt das Essen nicht ao schnell. Absolute Enttäuschung. Nicht zu empfehlen. Abzockerei!

Allgemein
Wir hatten per Mail vor zwei Monaten um den schönsten Tisch gebeten, weil wir etwas zu feiern hatten. Der Tisch, den wir zugewiesen bekamen, war ein Kurventisch. Zwei von acht Servicemitarbeitern kamen nicht daran vorbei, ohne den Stuhl bzw. mich zu touchieren.
Bedienung
Von den mindestens acht Servicemitarbeitern gab es einen jungen Mann, der sehr aufmerksam und zuvorkommend war (und dass, obwohl sich seine Freundin an diesem Tag von ihm getrennt hatte). Uns viel auf, dass die meisten Mitarbeiter ungelernt sind. Schleuderservice nennen wir das, wenn Gläser in der Hand an den Tisch gebracht werden.
Das Essen
Die Vorspeisen waren enttäuschend. Die Consommé haben wir schon besser gehabt und der Cäsarsalat vom Blockhouse ist 10 x besser. Das Wiener Schnitzel war perfekt und das Thai Curry war sehr lecker.
Das Ambiente
Das traditionelle Haus mit den schönen Säulen beinhaltet ein wahnsinniges Potential, das ungenutzt zu einer Bahnhofswartehalle verkommt. Schade!!!
Sauberkeit
Soweit wir das beurteilen können, war alles sauber. Die Toiletten haben wir nicht aufgesucht.

War heute nach einem Geschäftstermin spontan dort essen. Wir waren (mittags um kurz vor 12) die ersten Gäste, haben aber trotzdem einen Katzentisch zugewiesen bekommen. Dafür war der Service wirklich nett, gut gelaunt, zu Scherzen und Schwätzchen aufgelegt. Noch schöner wäre es gewesen, wenn man mir meine Jacke abgenommen oder mich zumindest auf die etwas versteckte Garderobe am Eingang hingewiesen hätte. Aber mei, man kann nicht alles haben.
Die Mittagskarte kam mit ungwöhnlicher und ambitionierter Auswahl daher — die Preise rangierten zwischen 13 Euro für das Tagesgericht (Kalbsragout) bis zu 84 Euro (Kobe-​Rind). Auf Empfehlung habe ich das «legendäre» Schnitzel mit Gurkensalat bestellt, meine Begleitung orderte Entrecôte medium.
Um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen: Die Qualität des Essens lässt mehr als nur zu wünschen übrig. Oder um es noch deutlicher zu sagen: Das war das schlechteste und gleichzeitig teuerste Schnitzel, das ich jemals auf dem Teller hatte. Das Fleisch war zäh und extrem trocken, die Panade viel zu dunkel und ebenfalls furztrocken (sorry, aber das trifft es). Dieses Schnitzel hat niemals Butter, Butterschmalsz oder eine Pfanne gesehen und wurde offenbar in billigem Fett frittiert. Das Stück Schuhsohle hab ich ehrlich gesagt nur wegen des absurden Preises runtergewürgt. Der Gurkensalat war fad, matschig und mit einer Joghurtsoße von schleimiger Konsistenz angemacht. Ich bin mir sicher, dass dieser Salat aus dem Eimer kam. Viel nachsalzen und –pfeffern hat ihn zumindest essbar gemacht. Das Entrecôte meiner Begleitung war übrigens gut durchgebraten, von medium keine Spur.
Der Espresso (auf Kosten des Hauses, weil wir zwischendurch den Tisch wechseln mussten) war allerdings hervorragend. Und der Kellner ein echter Schatz!
Ein Wort zum Ambiente: schön! Aber das kann es ehrlich gesagt nicht rausreißen. Einmal borchardt reicht dann auch für ein ganzes Leben…

Hat leider sehr nach gelassen und auf die, vor ein paar Jahren noch, gute Küche ist nicht mehr Verlass. Nicht besonders freundlicher Service kommt noch hinzu. Leider gehen wir hier jetzt nicht mehr hin. Stattdessen würde ich das The Grand empfehlen!

A Berlin Classic. Great for business lunch if you’re in the public policy/​media sector. The main room is a reminiscence of an old Berlin venue: open space with elegant interior. The menu has a classic core and some seasonal dishes: the borchardt is famous for its Wiener schnitzel — which is recommendable. Today I tried the vegetarian option (filled bell peppers with rice and eggplant) and I was not excited by it. Good espresso and some interesting deserts.

I’d like to rate this place higher but… First, the location is great. There aren’t too many choices in the immediate vicinity (but for what’s there you can’t go wrong). The main dining room is quite nice actually in a turn of the last century sort of way (booths, high ceilings, columns). Lastly, the food and wine were good – when they arrived…
Generally, I don’t mind being seated in the overflow section, which at Borchardt is in the basement. But, you have to walk through the busy smoking section to get there (it’s a hallway), that smoke wafts into the dining room, and the dining room has no ventilation. On a hot summer night it just felt like an oven. I trust that in any other season only the smoke would bother and it would be quite romantic.
Service overall was serious lacking but I’ve accepted this reality in Berlin. Slow, inattentive.

We had nothing to complain about. We booked a table for 2 adults and 2 children and got a lovely place in the courtyard. The food was very good and we had an excellent waiter who joked with the kids. In general the atmosphere is more casual than formal, but this is what we expected. Also as expected there were some guests we usually only see on the news.

Ganz nett — das ist wohl die beste Beschreibung des Borchardt. Essen und Trinken sind ganz nett, qualitativ und geschmacklich in Ordnung.
Leider ist es immer übervoll, eine Reservierung umbedingt notwendig. Während der Fashion Week sicher die In-​Location aber bei dem Rummel geht es mehr um das Sehen und Gesehen werden als um Essen. Wenn man darauf aus ist, ist das Borchardt sicher die erste Adresse.
Wenn es einem um gutes Essen zu einem vernünftigen Preis geht, ist man hier fehl am Platz. Die Qualität des Essens ist durchschnittlich, die Preise völlig überzogen (Bsp. Cola Light 0,2l € 3,50).

Ich hatte immer wieder von unfreundlichem Service gehört, aber wir haben genau das Gegenteil bekommen: einen jungen Kellner, der sich wirklich für uns Zeit nahm und sogar für das ein oder andere Späßchen zu haben war. So familiär hat sich das beim ersten Mal in einem Restaurant noch nie gestaltet. Auch seine Weinempfehlung (mit der er uns umstimmte) hat uns absolut überzeugt.
Das Publikum fand ich überhaupt nicht schlimm. Wir waren samstagabends da, haben aber weder Promis noch überhebliche Leute gesehen. Lediglich an einem Tisch hat sich etwas bürgerliches Publikum älteren Jahrgangs versammelt, aber das habe ich in anderen Restaurants dieser Kategorie schon erheblich schlimmer erlebt. Das Ambiente war enstprechend locker und angenehm. Wer das großräumige und daher etwas rustikale Brasserie-​Ambiente kritisiert und gleichzeitig etwas von «mehr Schein als Sein» schreibt, den kann ich leider nicht versteht. Die Atmosphäre ist doch eher Understatement.
Unser Essen war außerdem hervorragend: die Austern haben sehr frisch geschmeckt, die Spargelsuppe war super und wir hatten alle drei zum Hauptgang einen perfekt gegarten Fisch. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder her. Preis-​Leistung ist übrigens auch in Ordnung.

Tja, was soll man dazu sagen? Der Service ist durchaus professionell und freundlich, wenn auch etwas blasiert. Das Essen selbst ist in Ordnung, überwiegend Klassiker, aber nicht wirklich gekonnt und die Preise dafür überhöht — das Wiener Schnitzel ist ziemlich durchschnittlich, die Crème Brûlée wiederum empfehlenswert. Die Räumlichkeiten an sich sind ansprechend, aber die Tische sehr eng gestellt und der Lärmpegel sehr hoch. Das macht die Atmosphäre ziemlich hektisch und den Aufenthalt überaus unangenehm, man ist froh, wenn man bald wieder rauskommt. Hauptproblem ist das zum Teil sehr merkwürdige Publikum — viele Neureiche und Möchtegerns, denen es nicht ums Essen geht. Nicht zu empfehlen für Menschen, die sich noch etwas zu sagen haben oder gepflegt essen wollen — eher etwas für die spezielle Sorte von Touristen, denen man in den eigenen Lieblingsrestaurants nicht begegnen möchte.

The service could be little faster, but the food was good. If you do mind sharing your bedroom secrets with the next table neighbour, this place may not be for you.

Ich gebe dem Borchardt fünf Sterne, nicht wegen dem Essen, sondern weil es keinen Laden gibt der so eine ganz bestimmte Stimmung hat.
Sitze am liebsten zu später Stunde dort, trinke und quatsche dort noch bis in die Puppen.
Personal ist superGarderobenmädchen ist super. Ambiente ist unerreicht!

We came with high expectations since the NY Times had recommended the place. In their defense, it was hot outside and the coolest spot was in the courtyard which was still uncomfortable. Food was good. The wine was good. The service was on the slow side. We would have probably like the place more if it had been cooler.

Ein Blenderparadis zum Sehen und Gesehen werden. Leider vertraut auch die Küche auf dieses Konzept. Die Qualität der Speisen hinkt dem Ruf meilenweit hinterher. Die Preise sind für ein Klientel von Blendern angemessen Qualität spielt keine Rolle.
Wir sind öfters da gewesen (meist weil Kollegen bzw. Freunde es vorgeschlagen haben) aber jetzt endgültig das letzte mal noch einmal lassen wir uns dazu nicht breitschlagen.

Schöné Lage, stilvolle Inneneinrichtung, angenehmes Ambiente, leckeres Essen (Dessertempfehlung: Mango Tiramisu). Der Service ist gut (Mantel wird an der Tür abgenommen, man wird zum Tisch geführt, Ober sind zuvorkommend). Die Preise sind jedoch teilweise etwas zu hoch. Obwohl ich selbst der Meinung bin, dass Qualität vor Quantität steht, muss ich hier sagen, dass es doch einen Tick mehr Quantität sein dürfte.

So für meinen 200sten Beirag auf Unilocal habe ich mir ein besonderes Restaurant ausgesucht, das Borchardt, eine Institution in Berlin.
Man kann es so zusammenfassen. Man wird arrogant behandelt, die Tische sind klein bis winzig, es ist eng und laut und das Essen überteuert.
Trotzdem kommen die Leute offenbar gerne hierher. Auch bei meinem Besuch an einem Samstag Abend verhielt es sich ähnlich. Ich hatte einen Tisch reserviert und wurde ohne zu fragen im Keller plaziert. Den Keller kannte ich bis dato noch nicht. Es ist ein qasi fensterloser großer Raum, welcher nur von seiner Deko lebt.
An diesem Abend war es hier vor allen Dingen viel zu kalt. Der bestellte Weiswein (obwohl die Empfehlung auf der Karte) war allerdings viel zu warm. Das Essen war gut, allerdings sind die Preise doch schon sehr sportlich. Die Grillgerichte beginnen etwa bei 24, — Euro ohne jegliche Beilagen sodaß man bei 4 Personen, selbst wenn man nur einen Hauptgang hat ohne Vorseise und Dessert, mit einer günstigen Flasche Wein und Wasser mindestens bei 170, — Euro landet.
Da gibt es sicherlich vom Preis /​Leistungsverhältnis bessere Plätze.
Trotzdem zwei Tips: Im Sommer ist der Innenhof sehr schön und die Preise der MIttagskarte sind deutlich günstiger.

well this was an experience. how the berlin hoity-​toity strut their funky, no wait, bland stuff on the weekends. the «who are you» looks as you go to the loo. we’d been recommended by the misses dreary banker crowd — she’s far from dreary by the way, but read good reviews and heard it was the ‘old lady’ of Berlin’s dining scene.
it was alrite. standard veal schnitzel, wafer thin and massive — take from that what you will, and steak tartare was decent, wine list was expensive but a good recommendation was appreciated.
service was very good. very german. the crowd were weird, very wealthy clearly. mixed with a few tourists and ‘special’ nights out.

wouldn’t go back. but didn’t regret going.

Freundlicher Empfang. Einen Stern weniger, nachdem ein Kellner es schaffte mich zweimal (im Sitzen) anzurempeln. Einen Stern weniger, nachdem ein anderer Kellner auf einer Karte verschüttetes Wasser auf die Gäste verteilte. Einen Stern weniger, für das trockene, ungewürzte Schnitzel. Einen Stern plus für die schöné Garderobenfrau :-)

J’adore son style irrefutable et son ambiance dont je me souviens avec
plaisir. On a tjrs l’impression d’etre au milieu d’un marché ou tout le monde raconte
son histoire d’une maniere evocatrice. Bien sur les prix sont un peu eleves
mais faut q’on paie on peut de plus si on cherche une telle ambiance parmi les
gens celebres. Je conseille le Schnitzel. Tjrs un delice.

A real treat. Borchardt is a VIP dining experience. Established in 1853 Barack Obama, Mick Jagger and Karl Lagerfield have all dined here.
The wiener schnitzel in particular is elevated to new standards: it’s ultra thin and has the lightest and crispiest coating imaginable. Yes, there is also an elevated price too but my friend put it best «You can’t put a price on good schnitzel!».
The goose dinner I had was also exceptional. I’m not sure if this is part of the regular menu, but I highly recommend it if it’s available.
Not sure why the other reviewers had bad service experiences. I went on a Friday evening. The restaurant was packed and we were warmly welcomed, checked our coats, were promptly seated (we had a booking) and our server was attentive and friendly. No complaints here. I had an absolutely lovely time.

At the entrance, a not very nice waitress with a dodgy dress asked my friend to put the Berlin street atlas into her purse. Very rude start indeed. Then her manager dropped by and after scanning us with his Bourgeous-​o-​mat he said quickly to the lady-​waitress in German: put them at table XX. Clearly that was the worst table ever, separate from the main area and almost attached to the counter the loudest and busiest spot in the whole restaurant. But the best was yet to come: their English menu. Instead of suckling veal, we had the pleasure to order a sucking veal (sic.).
The food was actually good but definitely their provincial behaviour is not consistent with the high-​class attitude they seem to expect from their customers — not worth the veal!

We recently dined at Borchardt in Mitte. While the restaurant was half empty, the hostess told us we could be seated immediately without a reservation, but had to finish our meal within one hour. Sort of strange, given the place was empty and did not fill up even after our 1−½ hour stay.
My boyfriend ordered the Schnitzel. It was dry, thin, and bland. He had to douse it with lemon to give it some life.
My duck was lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the sauce.
I am guessing this place has a better reputation than reality.

Invited to discover one of German chancellor favorite restaurant, I am still amused just thinking about how many spelling mistakes I found on the English menu. The halibut is a halibutt :) and the tartar which is all over the A3 page is a Tatar I think we spotted over 34 spelling mistakes on 1 page which is for a quality restaurant probably very unusual. The food is alright, not to pricy, service swift, brasserie style, I found the lighting of the immense room very sad. With little effort this restaurant could be one of the best. Worth a visit but don’t expect to have the experience of a lifetime.
